Congratulations to Germany on its second consecutive World Cup third-place finish! :)

(I didn't really care who won today's World Cup game and I don't really care who wins tomorrow - at this point, it's simply about having entertaining games)

    GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! :(

I don't even think that'll be an issue. If it wasn't for him, Uruguay wouldn't even have been in a position for the Luis Suarez debacle to happen. Forlan's going back to Montevideo a hero. I think the real question is whether or not he'll be returning to Atletico after his fantastic showing this summer.

    That's good to know. :)

I suppose that I was just a bit nervous for him after having recently watched ESPN's The Two Escobars.

Yep. He also gets to come home to uber-hottie Zaira Nara after a tough day in the office. I think it's safe to say he'll be okay even after narrowly missing the would-be tying goal in a game they didn't really have any business playing in.

So you've never booed a pro athlete?

I booed the sh!t out of Becks at his first appearance in Oakland. Does that make me classless as well? All the LA fans may have thought so, based on how many heads turned around when I did, but this is 'Quakes country after all. :)

Ever been to a Giants/Dodgers game? Boos galore.

As American sports fans, I thought it was an accepted part of the game, when done with some taste of course. Villains are part of every sport and rightfully so in terms of adding a little intensified competition into the mix.

I guess I never really took offense to boos at any time in life. It was always part of the constant story lines that develop with fan bases in all pro sports.

    My $.02 anyway.

I'm smart enough to boo them when they deserve it instead of when they don't.

As the announcers noted, most players in that situation would have committed the same foul. Suarez did nothing particularly egregious. He didn't break legs or cleat someone in the face or fake an injury. Ghana could have converted that PK, or shot better from the mark, but ultimately they were outplayed and they lost.

Then again, I don't boo players for the opposition (eg Becks) unless there's a reason, like they abandoned us in favor of playing for the Galaxy.

Yes, but if he does it to my team, I'm going to boo him, just as we booed Robert Warzycha when he did the same thing to the Quakes.

I see. So you're smart enough when you boo. African fans weren't when they booed. Gotcha.

    Exactly.

A little perspective is all I tried to bring about. Booing isn't really all that big a deal. They booed. BFD. Did I miss the riots they started during the game or something?

I can't understand why the announcer, Ian Darke, got so bent out of shape about the boos. Booze bends me out of shape, but....

You would thnik that Google , a local company with millions of millions of soccer fans around the world using their search engine constantly possibly every second of the day, would have the smarts to invest money in the sport of soccer. I mean the Quakes are the only local soccer team and I can not believe they would not be interested in being a sponsor or have a naming right on their stadium. Ho much money would they lose? I doubt it would be much and to them, its pocket change. I am sure they have been approached by Lew and the Quake so seriously, why not? It makes no sense.....below is their current web page today with a picture of a world cup stadium....
