Argentina certainly didn´t look second rate. They put immense pressure on our defense, which was just good enough to get the essential inch in between the ball and the goal. It´s what it takes to win big games. You don´t win against Argentina without a little luck and just that edge it takes to stop their insane offense.
Don't even try. Down there, nearly everybody has a bit of everything. I'm happy with the results, at least in my own case.
Always LOVED this quote- ------------------ Brian Straus Senior Soccer Writer CAPE TOWN, South Africa -- "Football is a simple game. Twenty-two men chase a ball for 90 minutes, and in the end, Germany wins." The statement first uttered by former England national team star Gary Lineker 20 years ago remains true today. Lose your captain and most influential player right before the tournament? No problem. Anchor your offense around two college-age midfieders? Sure. Use a forward who doesn't even start for his club team? Sound strategy. No matter who Germany sends out on the field, they win
Germany will struggle big time against Spain (providing they win tonight). Unlike Argentina, Spain actually have a midfield. It's a very good midfield that can service Villa and Torres. Germany are a great counter attacking team but we've seen what happens if they go a goal behind.
In general, Northern European teams have great composure. They tend to keep their head, no matter what. Netherlands uses a different approach: a sort of "measured over-excitement" to get the calls. Otherwise, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Germany tend to keep perspective. And Finland too, for that matter.
Problem with spain that they dont defend , evem if they are in the lead and rely heavily on offside traps which will the german have an easy time breaking , since they have an amazing counters and the midfield/strikers combine in a magnificent way , somehow i feel spain is gona get raped if they do qualify against paraguay ( did i mention Besquets is spain's DM ? )
Yes they lose, look at the Serbia match. Even against Ghana they struggled because it took them a long time to score. I knew that as soon as Germany scored it would be difficult for Argentina because of the speed of the German counter attack.
They dominated Serbia even with 10 men. If Podolski didn't miss about 5 good chances they could've won that game by 2-3 goals even with 10 men for more than a half.
congratulations To Germany on the counter attacks were lethal . does this mean that germany is superior to argentina in soccer? Hardly: on individual players argentina is the only country that has two players that are even compaired to the great pele , w hich is another level of play over the average good player ; when you consider the staggering number titles unequal by any other two players in modern times. According to the stats and numbers by the Fifa organization the highest honors go to Maradona as the best player of the century, again I want to stress the fact this is based on the numbers like # of minutes played in word cup # of assis teams played in Europe cups in Europe an in south America. (Pele never played in Europe and when he did he was seriosly injured in 1966 in the game against Portugal) . . Alfredo Distefano, in his time was the best in the world ; the list goes on and on as the best teams in the world Barcelona Real Madrid or Inter still depend on their high goal prouction or the creativity of Messi. Germany played a great game , but one game does not change fifty years of great soccer players, and as the team with the most succesful players in the best leages world around the world Argentina has nothing to be ashamed of. so don't let this one victory blind you to the facts
Hey I'm just saying they lost the game. Yes I agree Germany was the better team that game. However, this is getting ahead of ourselves, we still have to beat Paraguay first.
Bye bye Diego, I guess the name Thomas Müller haunts you til your very end Anyway, I´m just glad that Argentina didn´t act like a bunch of sore losers like they did in 2006. Now I hope for a payback against Spain so...vamos Espana
Argentina was the best team in the first half, but some players were a letdown: Di Maria, Messi, Maxi... Any chance Muller's yellow card being removed? That was really unfair.
Don't let all what you said fool you into thinking you had a great squad. Having good players is one thing, having a good team is another. Also, Argentina could do without that clown "Maradroga" as a coach. And this wasn't a victory, it was an annihilation.
Don't think so. Usually cards are only removed on a technicality (such as a card given to the wrong player).
I don't think you can appeal for yellow's, only red's. I'd have to see the replay again but when it happened live it looked like it came off his stomach, either way, it was really harsh that early on.
I'll be the last one to say a positive thing about the germans (in football that is), but damn... this is some team. Of course, if we meet in the final it will still be about revenge for 74, but till then: congratulations.
Sorry, but thats only half the truth. Klose e.g. didn´t play during most matches of Bayern Munich. Oezil, Podolski, Khedira don´t play there as well. The only players who play regularly for the Bayern squad are Lahm, Schweinsteiger and Mueller. So some credits are to be given to Low in my opinion. Just for example, Klose and Podolski didn´t play that well during the whole season. But Low believed in them while being criticized heavily for his decision. And look at the result. Before kickoff I said that I would prefer a clear 4-1 victory to a 2-1 in overtime. I didn´t even think of winning against Argentina. But this performance, just overwhelming. And now let´s have a look at the defense of Paraguay to play against the offense of Spain. I really hope for the Spanish team because that would be easier for the German team than Paraguay, who will probably stand very deep. And there is to take revenge against Spain after the Euro-finals in 2008 in Vienna.
You Argentina can stuff all that individual honors up ur *** for all we care. At the international level, Germany has been way more successful than you.
