Divine justice... difficult to win when the AR is actually doing its job and calling the offsides. I said many times... it was just a matter of time before the colossal implosion by Argentina... they had a very suspect defense from match one.
same for Juan Sebastian Veron. This should have been his game, from the importance of it. well...they got what they deserved. Peru should have eliminated them 8 months ago, anyway.
Wow 0-4, that's embarrassing. Slightly undeserved to get battered like that after such a decent previous run by Argentina. (winning everything) but.. Very impressive performance by the German team, Klose/Podolski/muller/Ozil really wrecked the albiceleste behind. Ofcourse going 1-0 up that early in the match is a big strategical bonus. Good luck against Spain(?) Duitsland, see you in the (dream)Final!!!!
Congratulations to Germany, they played an awesome game. I am proud of our guys, they fought hard. It always sucks to lose, but if we lose, I'd rather lose 4-0 trying to win than lose 1-0 trying not to lose. Germany didn't win because they got the early goal and then killed the game during suicidal time. They won because between their first goal and their second goal they were able to hold off everything our talented attacking players threw at them. Our guys pressured, they gave all they had, but their defense was solid, their goalie was solid, and they never let us back in the game. As time went by and we took more risks, and still couldn't break them, it was only a matter of time until they went for the kill, against our suspect defense. Good work, Germany. Now the only question is if they can sustain this high level, because if they can....forget it.
argentina got what they deserved who in their right mind would make him a coach of the national team. ASININE
Yesterday, I think, Alexi Lalas said that Maradona had not faced any real problems to solve leading up to this QF match with Germany. He was wondering whether Maradona's schtick would pull the albiceleste through. I guess not. Parading around on the sidelines and gesticulating ferociously seems not to make any real difference how the players on the pitch handle the fact that they are being dominated and out managed. When Lionel Messi has failed to score in every previous match, I think you have to calculate more carefully the chances of beating a side that has poured in goals lately.
Exactly. And that's why a solid defense is the initial building block: without it, any failed attack becomes a clear chance for the other team to score. After one or two scares, the attackers know that, so even when pushing forward they will keep their eyes looking back. So the attack is never sustained.
Well, only thing i have to say as a English neutral...WOW!!. German fans you should be proud, what a performance. You guys absoloutely battered Argentina from start to finish and looked really solid at the back and impressive up front. I believe this is the third time in this tournament that Germany have scored 4 goals. To do that takes a creative midfield and potent strikeforce; you guys have that. I thought Bastian was the best player on the park by far today and generally looked impressive, whipping in a great free kick for the opener. After the England game everybody was saying that Germany played very well but England were poor; well i personally thought that was unfair and today Germany proved that they can beat anyone and beat them well. I say good luck, i really want you guys to win the world cup because you deserve it, you play in the right way and everybody in that team cares about the shirt and about each other, if only England could do that Comiserations Argentina but all the best to Germany, im hoping for a Germany Holland final, that would be a mouth-watering prospect i bet Kommen Sie auf Deutschland!!!
Messi was good, certainly not brilliant, but good! Can't understand all the crap that some of the media were writing. Unfortunately, Maradona put too much pressure on him. Love our German team, brilliant performance. Great counter attacks. But it will be difficult against Spain anyway.
Looks like German's octpus is wiser than Maradona's "God". http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/jul/02/world-cup-diego-maradona-god I also can't wait for all the stupid ESPN commentators except for Lalas(again!) to eat buckets of crow.
We would have qualified anyway, we had more games in hand and won in Uruguay. Please get your facts right. Yes, I agree, the absence of Veron, Guitierrez who essentially were are stalwart first defensive line before the back 3/4, were removed by Maradona for attacking option. It was a complete reversal, use them in the weaker groups and remove them from the quarterfinals.
If they play Paraguay it's a whole different type of challenge. Paraguay will wait for Germany, not try to attack them. Maybe it's wiser to play them that way, but I can't see Paraguay beating them.
Any chance of Paraguay making it further down in the world cup was lost when Cabañas got shot back in January.
You contradict yourself. Yesterday you say that Brazil didn't give enough at the end, but then you say Argentina gave enough today. I'm not a Brazilian fan, not even close, but they did give it their all. Argentina players fell apart, they played horrible. Even the BBC said this, everyone on the boards are saying this? What game are you watching?
Best German performance since the match against the Netherlands in 1990. Our team can take it all. Müller missing in the Semifinal is a loss, but the guys on the bench are very strong as well. Nice little display of what Toni Kroos can do towards the end of the match. I hope he gets to play for Müller.
