While I agree with this, it should be pointed out that Spurs also played him in that attacking mid spot too. We have been lacking in that position this season IMO.

At some point, unless Josh starts scoring in bunches (which would be a welcome surprise), you would think he will end up on the bench if we sign this guy. I don't think that would upset too many people....
    SNAP!

Should we begin speculating on who gets dropped if we sign this guy? I know 95% would gleefully vote for Rocastle, the Red Card King.....

While I'm in that camp, with the waiving of Kostrov/signing of Beasley it doesn't have to be an international player, it could be a US player.

    Also:
Auvray is now a domestic player. He has a green card so he does not count as an international player anymore.

They could sign two foreign players without having to waive an international.

I'm just having a hard time seeing this get done. Why would he turn down an offer from Tottenham to come play in KC? Don't get me wrong, I love the city, but as an outsider, what does it offer? This isn't even considering the league and quality of play.

To us, Kansas City is a midwestern city with little culture. But when you are coming from another country, this is a foreign place. It is exotic and a new culture. Kansas City has things to offer just like every other city does. We have had some World Class talent come here to play before.

At Tottenham, he is just going to be another player. Here he can be the star. He can be the focal point of our offense and play every minute of every game if he is able to fitness wise.

I doubt Robb would have posted anything if talks have not been positive. Even if this does not get down, I think OnGoal has probably talked to other potential DPs. They have been great about having contingency plans.

Oh, I'm not saying we don't have culture. It's more that I get the vibe from many people that's how THEY think of us. I mean, we aren't exactly cosmo like a NY or LA but I suppose if that's what someone is looking for, then sweet. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I do agree with you. It just takes right right circumstance (a la a Greinke type of player-good doesn't like the spotlight). I'm assuming he would be one then, no?

None of my family and friends have found the allure of "Kansas" to be particularly strong. I had a steady trickle of people visiting when I was in Chicago but KC has dropped the numbers for sure. Ironically they have grown to really love the city, but then getting them here has been the trick .....

I think you vastly overrate how exotic the USA is to Europeans who are used to traveling .... at least the midwest.

Forget all that need to be the star business ... he was never, and has never been 'the star'. Head to head:

KC vs London (I ********ing hate London but there you go, he obviously has been there a few times --).

    EPL vs MLS.

    Champions League vs __________

Tottenham vs The Wizards (And Spurs are doing well .....)

    Harry Redknapp vs Peter Vermes

Plus playing in Europe keeps him in the international picture, with European Championship qualification starting in mere weeks and the Euro 2012 being his last major tournament (probably) its hard to see him wanting to trade that it for a sunny afternoon in Dallas.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to have him here ... but its gonna take a hell of a pitch to make it work if Tottenham are serious about having him.

are you serious? this is a win-win for ongoal. if we don't get him, it's still a big thumbs up to ongoal for trying, even if robb knew there was no chance.

this really should be the city's motto. how many times have longtime residents of this city heard this over and over?

    Perhaps.

But, I think it all depends on the person. It depends on what people prefer. Some people might look the allure of NY and LA but some people may prefer some place a little more low key.

Anytime I meet someone from Europe or any other part of the world, I immediately engage in conversation if at all possible. I have met countless people, European and otherwise, who have found the Midwest appealing and they came to vacation here instead of the coast.

I dont know if you have ever heard of Tommy Emmanuel but he just may be the best guitar player to ever walk the earth. He's Australian and I talked to him at a music festival a few years back and he told me that anyone visiting NY or LA is missing out. He called the midwest, "the real America".

My point is, we dont know what kind of place Gudjohnsen prefers and we dont know what he is looking for so it is hard to go forward and say Tottenham is going to win this one. Playing in Kansas City might just appeal to him.

Exactly my point. Maybe he wants to be before he retires. You or I do not know what he is looking for.

I disagree. If OnGoal has simply submitted an offer without any positive conversation taking place, I dont think Robb says a thing. It might end up win-win but it could also backfire if we dont end up signing a DP at all.

there is a ton of buzz around about fulham and stoke trying to beat out tottenham to sign this guy. it is a nice thought but if those teams are out to sign him you can probably forget it. a good try tho. and definitelyt he kind of target more MLS team should be after.

Call me a cynic but I think announcing this bid is just cover for ******** all happening that is tangible. Now we at least get to say OnGoal tried.

    Two questions:

Will the Ice Man melt in the Kansas City summers?

Can he provide service to himself?

We've got so much wrong right now, I'm not sure how much this would help. If we're gonna suck for the next decade (as it seems we will since we have the last 6 years), we might as well take the money to spend on him and build a youth academy and try to build gradually from the bottom up.

We're well past the quick fix stage. We turned over some of the roster from last year, but apparently not enough. Let's get another decent CB, a decent player in CM, a captain who can, you know, actually be on the field, and a freaking striker who can actually score a goal. And a youth academy.

Thanks Robb for putting a bid in for EG. That is nice to see we might be trying. But what about a #10 playmaker, a real captain who leads by example, a defender, a new coach and technical director. Like Mt. Mike said we need more than a forward. This team is a joke and is not playing like a team. To much has been made of the wins we have had this year. All 3 against teams who aren't very good. Lastly the interview by Dave B. on BTW on Friday was pure comedy. Was he reading a script the PR dept prepared for him? I personally thought it was a 15 min Wizards infomertal. It is going to be hard to get average sports fans on board if the quality of play is crap!

i've said it a few times, but i think i'd rather see the beckham rule used for somebody to play a leadership role... i don't get why people keep going after aging strikers... if they're gonna be older, get a dm or something and let them coach up some of the young guys.

luca toni's a free agent but there's no way in multicolored hell we could afford him.

so beasley's definitely re-signed with rangers now?

another player i was high on as a potential MLS DP in january. however i think his wife is an aspiring model/actress and would have to be dragged kicking and screaming to KC. the original rumour started iirc when it was mentioned he might want to come to the US for his wife to have more opportunities in the entertainment industry.

Vermes told me there was a player that he was talking to that declined to come here because his wife would not move to KC. He would not tell me who it was but he was unhappy with that player for not giving KC a chance.

Hrmm, is there any players in the EPL whose wives are really interested in jobs at medical software companies??? I'm just saying, I think we could arrange that. :)
