who does baba? just because you say you don't share it doesn't mean you don't have it. Soccer is not an indvidual effort, some players do lack that strenght and do never recover from something like that. lack of composture and calm is not a trait of only the Mexicans. England suffered a similar call against them and could not overcome it. shit! even USA could not overcome being down with two perfectly legal goals. so BS it does exist. it is difficult. and it did play it's part in the overal result of the game.

Before the offside goal, Mexico was playing quite well and looked every bit as likely to score as Argentina. After the offside goal, Mexico lost its focus and quickly gifted a second goal to Argentina on an unforced defensive error, which Higuin nicely exploited. Tavez's goal, a beautiful hard shot, was the nail in the coffin for Mexico and after Argentina was up 3:0, the game was essentially over. Mexico, to its credit, was able to score a late consolation goal to make the result more respectable, but this game was largely decided early on by two errors, first from the referee and then by Osorio.

I am not sure instant replay is the right answer for football, but obviously this World Cup has shown that FIFA needs to take a serious look at different ways to address the problems with officiating the game. Some changes are going to be necessary.

England actually got better after that BS call. They started looking pretty good after halftime, but for only 10-15 minutes. Mexico, not so much. Both teams had plenty of time to make a game of it, neither of them pulled it off.

I disagree. after the referee error on both games Mexico scored 1 goal england none. both teams received 2 goals. i think Mexico was closer to score a second goal than england too.

Goals do not = how well teams play.

One of England's goals was off a set piece that had nothing to do with how well they played, they could have been granted a second goal from lampards long range bombs. He shot these same strikes over and over throughout the match regardless of how well the rest of the team was doing. He just got a llittle more lucky in the first half.

Agreed, it also pissed me off how the ref just runs along with him laughing as if nothing happened. I think he asked him if it was a handball or something, and of course, Fabiano lies and says "no of course not" and the ref goes "oh ok just checking lol"

Some serious BS calls in this tournament, but I'd say the off-side Tevez goal is probably the worst.

As for my thoughts on this match, that stupid off-side goal from Tevez seemed to have crushed our hopes of being a serious threat to Argentina. The game just went downhill after that and the ridiculous ******** up by Osorio. We lost morale. He giftwrapped that second goal just WHAT THE...

It's a shame, I hope Mexico doesn't face Argentina in 2014, because knowing their track record they'll stomp on us yet again. If only we beat Uruguay we could've faced S. Korea instead, I think they would've been an easier team to deal with... :( but no.

I mean it's not really the fact that we lost that bothers me, but rather the fact that we lost to the same damn team twice which both defeats lead to elimination - just like the USA. I was hoping we would get some payback but that was too much to ask for.

Goddamnit, I'm gonna be a rabid German supporter during their Argentina game. Hopefully they kick their asses out of the WC.. ugh this is so frustrating. Note that I don't have a problem with any Argentines/Argentinians (w/e the hell you guys are called) on this site so it's nothing personal but this game was a joke, end of the ********ing story.

    This blows.

Linesman do ever look at the firing player. Only then turn to see the receiving player.

They frequently wrongly flag valid ball passes as off side, because in the meantime between the shot and the reception, the receiver moves forward.

Argentina was wrongly flagged as off side, many times on this coup.

This time the error favored Argentina because in the meantime between the shot and the reception, 2 Mexican players put themselves between Tevez and the arc.

It can be argued that the error favored Argentina, but Mexico cannot argue that Argentina was not superior. Argentina controlled the game all the time. Even when Mexico had the ball in the second time, he was allowed to do it by Argentina.

I agree. The worst calls are the non-calls leading to a goal was scored from offside or did not cross the line. The Germany-England goal was like a goal scored by a player who is onside but is called offside, and that happens very often.

but that superiority only actually manifested in the second goal of tevez and that was just an individual effort. a Golazoo as we put it here. but as a team do you really remember a great play or anything that really made the mexican goalie fight really hard? other than the play where Argentina Scored in the offside i don't recall anything, really.

Still good deserved win by Argentina and God bless you all. i hope your team really wins the championship.

Something so touching I noticed as soon as Veron entered the pitch. In first chance, there was Messi right next to him exchanging several soft short passes to each other. It symbolically, in football language, represented two great buddies seperated by unwelcomed circumstances coming together and hugging three times. Did anyone else notice that?

I find it pathetically pathetic that the media hardly talked about the Fabiano double handball goal, yet this offsides goal by Argentina is just so wrong. I agree it shouldn't have been but wtf.

Yeah with instant replay that wouldn't be a goal. Fine, but maybe some of us aren't inclined to believe Mexico was gonna win it just because they took 2 shots from downtown.

No talk about Higuain eh? That's good because he hasn't been all that great, his hat trick was three tap ins and he's missed so many chances, if he could finish properly he'd have scored twice as many.

this is 100% true. brazil can do no wrong in the eyes of the media, especially the idiots on ESPN here in the states who keep saying "you HAVE to watch brazil"

mexico was never better than us. we let them have the ball in the beginning and they fired a few long shots, and yes romero looked nervous, but it was as if we were saying lets see what you have in the first 10 minutes. we took their punch

it was not good enough from mexico and it should have been a goleada

marquez should have been sent off. he had about 5 fouls after receiving a yellow. of the fouls committed by mexico today, almost all of them were from rafa or torrado.

mexico has a bright future, and i have to question aguirre with that line up. bofo was never going to do anything... why would you play a guy who hadn't been used the first 3 games?

i also have to say that if he had gotten it right tactically against uruguay, he may not have had to play argentina, but south korea. cuahtemoc is not in conditions to play a mundial and franco is just dreadful, he never should have played again after that pathetic performance against south africa in the opener when he alone missed 4 or 5 sitters

his job is to score goals and thats what hes doing. crespo scored 35 times for argentina and i'd say 90% of them were from closer range than higuain's, but that is the job of the 9.

higuain also showed great composure on the ball, he is so good at faking out the goalie in a 1 vs. 1. remember, the kid is only 22

    Garbage goal specialist.
I think Higuain does that job far better than Milito. I'm tired of watching Milito trying to be faster. I see everything I wanted Milito to be in the race horse of Higuain. Maybe try to use his head (and I do not mean by thinking) a little more. His presence takes one defender off from Messi, that's all I wanted to see.

Actually Higuain has been doing a pretty decent job. I thought he was going to be a disaster. IMO, neither Tevez nor Higuain should start(my pre-world cup opinion) - but both of them have been pretty decent this world cup - thereby keeping Diego Milito pretty much out.

milito has always been a disaster for argentina. in the game against greece he did terribly. he does not have the mobility nor does he link up with messi and the others...

every time the guy puts on the argentina shirt he looks awful, especially in the 2007 copa america

some people complain that milito doesn't get enough minutes for argentina, but that is because he is normally so terrible he gets pulled at half time

Milito's style of play don't mesh. A good player yes, but too slow for the national side.

Tevez should be on fire now. He's streaky. Higuain is the classic clean up guy. The two that need to score is Messi and Di Maria.

    mex choked, period.

Argentina only had two great shots, one was a goal by tevez. They got the win.

The future looks bright for mexico.

It always does. But the choking at this stage never stops for them, regardless of who the opponent is.

So Di Maria's shot and Tevez turn to rebound that wasn't good efforts? Or Messi's shot just before the end?
Mexico pulled more shots, but both teams had 6 on goal, and the ones from argentina looked far more deadly. That's the difference in quality. Mexico simply does not deserve to beat this Argentine team. They got out played on multiple levels, reflected by the scoreline.

"The future looks bright for mexico"

Has been like that every single WC since what? ... 1986? ;)

3-1 is a deceiving score: 2-1 or 1-0 would reflect better what happened on the field

Sure, Argentina was better than Mexico, but just a little. I didn't see Argentina like dominating this game. Lots of improvements to do for the game against Germany
