Bummer .... I am disappointed in the USA to be honest, I thought they would win this game during the second half, and was already thinking y'all could take Uraguay. Hope you enjoyed it anyway ... I thought the US did well.
Germany is really pressing to make it three before the half.. First goal was remarkably similar to the game-winner for Ghana yesterday, and the second was James getting beat 5-hole.. For the sake of soccer's continued growth in the US, I'm ECSTATIC that we didn't play Germany. And now England snags one back against the run of play thanks to a VERY stupid play from the German keeper. HOLY SHIT! How did Lampard get THAT unlucky? Replay CLEARLY shows that the ball bounces off the crossbar and crosses the line. I'm absolutely against video replay, but with all of the very clear ********ups with the current 1+2 referee system, I think it's a foregone conclusion that we see 1+2+2 for Brazil 2014.
Heh. Klinsmann just spent two minutes on ESPN explaining what's wrong with youth player development in this country, saying essentially the same things I told my wife an hour ago when she asked why the US doesn't do better in the World Cup. Anyone have Gulati's fax number? I'm sending in a resume.
There are a number of people who report that Klinsmann's wanting to change the youth development system is why he is not the USA head coach right now. I don't know if it's true, but, well, there you go.
Holy jesus. Two blown calls in two straight games.. Will be tough to argue that the end result was undeserved in the ENG/GER match, but the clear argument for the complexion of the game changing is there for MEX/ARG. But I still don't want Video Replay.
From what I understand, he wanted a lot of power over US Soccer and wanted to change a lot of things. Of course, Gulati doesnt want that so negotiations fell through I say give the man whatever he wants and make him coach.
I guess I'm just not as high on Klinsmann as some people are. He took the HOST nation of the 06 World Cup to the semifinals (a traditional World Cup power host nation). Then was solid but not exactly spectacular as Bayern's coach.
did anyone else laugh when the cameraman got too close on one of argentina's goal celebrations and heinze turned his head right into it? then he smacks the camera out of the way. that was ace.
True, he hasn't distinguished himself as a manager. However, I am sorely tempted by anybody who wants to remake the dysfunctional youth development system here. I don't think anyone can deny that Germany develops world class players. Obviously, that doesn't mean that he's the guy. That's the tricky thing. It's hard to tell who will succeed. I think a lot of the attraction to Klinsmann was that he wouldn't require monetary persuasion to come to the USA, as he already lives here. Also, he seemed eager to take on the challenge. That said, I really don't have a problem with the job Bradley has done, and I hope he doesn't get thrown under the bus. Yes, he made a mistake in squad selection, but overall it has been a good WC campaign for the USA.
me either but the big major question that US soccer should be asking themselves is this. Is this the best that he can do? If that is all he can get out of the team then maybe it is time for him to step down and lets hopefully get us a coach who can help us make that next step.
He's done a really good job with in game adjustments, as is seen in the slovenia, algeria, and ghana games, it's been his pre-game that has hurt the US.
i still contend that everything we've achieved (confed cup finals, winning group at wc) has been in spite of bob bradley. in my opinion, the two most important duties of the manager are: 1. picking who to play; the starting lineup 2. having the players ready to play throughout this world cup, qualifying, and the confed cup, bradley has consistently failed in these two areas. how many times have we given up an early goal? how many times has bob had to make substitutions at halftime... or even worse, before halftime? he needs to go. end of.
Haven't been around for a few days so a catch up: I was SOOOOO pissed off when I saw the US starting line up. Why the ******** did Ricardo Clark start? Did Bradley forget all about the England game? Or perhaps just the fact that Clark sucks donkey balls? My lord, when that first goal went in I just couldn't contain my rage. And Bradley knew exactly what he did. He ********ed up. And he admitted to the world he ********ed up when he pulled Clark immediately after. Wasting an early game sub in a game that would go into overtime. ********ing hell, Bradley. You just lost that game for us on the decision to start Clark alone. ********ing stupid. Stupid. Stupid. I can not believe that happened. I feel like most moderate soccer fans could have called that one. Such an idiotic move. Unbelievable. On another note, my number two team is an will always be Germany (I'm about 98% German in heritage) and right now they are making me feel a little better.
Always the blame game, why never "Ghana were simply better than us?". I have heard everything from FIFA conspiracy to Bob Bradley but ultimatly the US only scored one goal and choked up a second inexplicably to start extra time. Ghana deserved the win. Bob Bradley has turned the USMNT into a fine team. Just not good enough on the day. It's the same classless blame the referee after MLS defeats and ignore the glaringly obvious faults in play that is just so juvinile and tired.
So is this exclusive to Wizards fans, or just American fans in general? I thought Ghana was better on the day, but not so much that avoiding a few mistakes couldn't have gotten us the win. Analyzing those mistakes and who made them is part of being a fan. Fabio Capello
I'm not playing a blame game, I'm simply pointing to exactly what went wrong. If Ghana faces a competent player and doesn't score their first goal, it's 1-0 US at the end of 90 minutes. Better play doesn't always get rewarded, and if Clark wasn't in there, it wouldn't have been.
and i wasnt asking about why that wasnt a red on the PK because I thought it was the reason we lost, i just wanted others take as I thought it should have been.
Because I dont think Ghana were the better team. If I thought Ghana were the better team that day, I wouldnt be so upset. I thought Ghana outplayed us for the first 30 minutes of the game, after that I thought we completely controlled them. Yes, we should have finished our chances. Hell, I think we had more quality scoring chances than any other team in the entire tournament. I even told people at the Wizards tailgate that this WC should show every soccer coach in the US that we need to develop pure strikers that can put the ball in the net. However, we should have won this game even with all the missed chances. I truly believe we were the better team Saturday and I also believe that we would have won if Edu started instead of Clark. Bob Bradley has done a decent job but one of the most important jobs of a manager is to put out the personnel that give you the best chance to win each game. Bradley ********ed up. Badly. He admitted he ********ed up by using a sub to take Clark out 30 minutes into the match. I dont think there is a US fan out there that saw Clark in the starting line-up and was happy about it. No, I dont think it is the same. Can you deny that putting Clark on the field was a terrible decision?
There were long stretches of the second half and extra time that Ghana controlled the play. USA had Ghana on the ropes after they equalized, but took their foot of the throat and didn't play with the same intensity after the penalty. But credit to Ghana for not getting flustered after that goal and retaining their composure.
