Alright everyone, here is your definitive guide for all the U.S. World Cup festivities you could want! The Brewhouse estimated about 500 people for some games. Their plan is to have a VIP area in the bar, another seating area inside, and a tent outside in the parking lot. They’ll be bringing in 55″ TVs, and I also believe they’ll have projectors for the tent. We might not be able to make the trip to South Africa, but this will definitely be an awesome atmosphere to enjoy the matches!

    U.S. vs. ENGLAND
    June 12, 2010 @ 2:30 pm EST on ABC

I think we all knew this would be “the game”. It’s on a Saturday, and it’s also against our best group opponent. It also happens to be a high profile match non U.S. or England fans will be watching. This means it will easily be our busiest day at the Brewhouse. For this, I recommend coming out EARLY! I suggest getting there by 12:30 or so, as the owner said if you show up at this time, we shouldn’t have problems getting in for the game. However, I’ll probably show up even earlier for the 10 am game. This way, I can enjoy a full day of footy, but also so I don’t have to wait to get inside the Brewhouse.

    U.S. vs. SLOVENIA
    June 18, 2010 @ 10:00 am EST on ESPN

Our second match is a mid-morning game, so wake up early so you’re in full spirits by kick off! It’s a Friday and it’s not as high profile a match as England, so it shouldn’t be as busy for this one. I’ll talk to the owner the day of the England match to see what he thinks the crowds will be like, but I don’t anticipate long lines to get inside the pub. Show up early, but again, I don’t expect a mad rush to get inside. Hopefully we’ll have earned a point (or three!) against England to make this a less pressured game.

    U.S. vs. ALGERIA
    June 23, 2010 @ 10:00 am EST on ESPN

The final group stage match could feature a U.S. side either locked into advancing to the next round or we could be fighting to advance like 2006. We’ll see how it plays out, but this match could potentially be one of our most critical. It’s another mid-morning game, and also in the middle of the week (a Wednesday), so it shouldn’t be a concern getting inside like the England game could be. Just show up early enough, and we’ll be good to go!

There it is folks! The dates, times, opponents, and everything else about the U.S. matches you’ll need to know as you make your way to the Brewhouse. If I could just emphasize one thing, show up EARLY for the England game. It’s one of the best match ups in the group stage, and everyone will be watching. It will be busy for sure, and you won’t want to miss out. Obviously, Slovenia and Algeria won’t be as busy, but they are still World Cup matches, so there will definitely be crowds inside watching. I will speak with the Brewhouse to get their feel on the crowds and let you all know. It’s going to be a helluva summer!

    Thanks again as always,
    Andrew Wagner

I hate doing this because I want to go to Brewhouse for the games, but some of us are just a tad too far outside of Atlanta to make it there and back if we have other plans (a job or what not).

Are there other viewing spots in the Metro Area? I'm in Gwinnett and I think the Arena Tavern on Sugarloaf would be a great spot, but I just want to open this thread up for people who can't make it to ATL to make plans.

Hi ATLfirefan: Unfortunately, I can't organize multiple viewings in Atlanta because I'm afraid it would split up the chapter and the goal has been to organize everyone for the World Cup. I'm sure you can easily find places to watch it, the only thing is to find fellow Americans! I'm making quite a hike as well, driving about 45 min from the South Forsyth area, so if you can head to the Brewhouse, we'd love to have you!

    Thanks!

You would need a Brewhouse member card. They were giving them out during qualifying.

Aha! There's the answer! I was unaware of that as they weren't very clear on the VIP area. But I think we will mostly be in the other part of the restaurant, or in the tent they are setting up for the World Cup. You are of course free to do whatever, but if you're around, come stop by!

    Thanks,
    Andrew

Myself and a couple buddies will likely arrive in the morning to secure a table and watch the early match. I can hardly wait!

Sounds good...I think we are planning on getting there around 9 or 10, figure we can beat most of the crowd hopefully.

    Hi all,

I'm a new AO member. I'm planning on coming earlier to watch the Argentina vs Nigeria game and will of course stay for the USA vs England game. Will I manage to find the AO members with the flag I got in the mail?

I'm planning on going to Brewhouse, but wouldn't Fado's in Buckhead also be a venue for those that want to avoid Brewhouse?

In any case, I'm really looking forward to the game. Hope to meet few AO members there.

If it's the crowd that would make someone think about a second venue than Fado's is probably not a good second choice. That place is great but it will be packed too. I don't think Fado's is planning on any extra TV's or anything like the tents the Brewhouse will have.

If the Brewhouse gets too crowded there are plenty of other local bars that I'm sure will be showing the game: Midway pub, Arizona Pub, Diesel, Manuel's Tavern, various Taco Macs, Marlay house, etc.... As for me I'm going to be sticking it out at the Brewhouse and I just plan on getting there early and I won't get worked up when I have to wait a few minutes extra for a beer.

Exactly, if Brewhouse is too crowded you really wouldn't have to travel far to finds another bar with the game on. This isn't like an EPL or Champions League game where only a few bars televise the match. Almost every establishment in the city will be showing this game.

AO folks should be pretty easy to spot...between the shirts, bandanas, and being probably the loudest folks there, we'll stand out I hope.

Fado's is pretty cool, and I've never been to the Brewhouse, but if that is where AO is, that is where I am going.

    Hey everyone,

Yes, as stated, I'm sure just about any restaurant that has a TV set up better than rabbit ears will be tuned into the match, so I wouldn't be worried about finding it at a bar. However, if you're deciding where to go, and are still debating, we'd love to have you all out at the Brewhouse! It's an official US Soccer bar, so you know it's going to be a blast. Fado is also an official US bar, but they weren't as accommodating as Brewhouse. I also got the vibes they were more into selling their little margaritas to the trendy youths instead of catering to the footy fans. Either way, you can't go wrong, but we'd love to see you at the Brewhouse this Saturday!

    Thanks,
    Andrew Wagner

The Brewhouse actually has wings available in about 10 different flavors- if you're interested and can find a buddy to come with! Of course, I'm sure you could find plenty of Americans at the bar you'd enjoy watching the match with. :)

Hi, if you're a new AO member, get in touch with me either thru email (aawagner011@gmail.com), PM on Bigsoccer, or on the Facebook group (I'm Drew Wagner there- http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=165469346836). This way, I can add you to the chapter roster, and allow you to receive email communication about World Cup event stuff.

    Thanks,
    Andrew Wagner

Ya, Fado's has a bit too much of a chain like feel to me, too slick and too Buckhead (there is a Whole PayCheck (Foods) nearby if that tells you anything). The food may be some what better at Fados, but during a big match the vibe is nearly always better at the Brewhouse. Guess I feel that a soccer bar should have some rough edges and the staff should not freak out if I scratch a table or spill a beer. Plus, on a nice day, the Brewhouse has that patio area.

Also, if the U.S. wins, I feel like we would get into less trouble partying on the streets of Little Five Points than in Buckhead.

    Brewhouse Reps,

Is the "VIP section" in effect? I didn't in on it and I'm wondering if my seating options will be limited on Saturday.
    Thanks!

The VIP section is for some people who've become members of some program they've got going on. I'm not sure what it includes, because they didn't provide enough info on it, but I wouldn't be worried about it, because they've got another seating area, as well as a tent that they're setting up in the parking lot.

Much appreciated. Hoping the wife will let me slip away from vacation. I'm afraid the time will put the game right in the middle of nap time for our friends' son.
