Just wondering if anyone has any stories? Or if anyone has heard of anything going on with anyone, from the world of football(soccer) or not. I saw on tv Zidane was at the Algeria game yesterday and Seedorf was meeting fans in a shop.
I met the entire Springboks team on the flight down from Heathrow last week. Also, Boris from the movie Goldeneye (actor Alan Cummings) is my next-door neighbour in Cape Town.
David Moyes, holding court with a bunch of journos in Montego Bay restaurant last night. Didn't look too thrilled when he was asked to pose for pictures but then it's hard to tell as he never looks too thrilled about anything!
Feedback from UK: If anyone see's Mick McCarthy please find a way to stop him getting anywhere near a microphone. He makes the vuvuzelas sound pleasant.
I talked to Steve Nash tonight outside a club Sandton. He was with a group from the South Africa NBA office. He really acts like a regular guy and is a big soccer fan/player.
I saw Shakira outside the stadium at the opener about 4 hrs b4 the match. Her car held up our park/rise bus. We saw her in the backseat of the car w/ her assistant jumping out of the car from time to time to get the SA officials to let them through since she was a VVIP! Still took em awhile. I only managed to snap a hit of her arm on my camera.
My friend was worked out next to Arjen Robben at the Platinum Sports club in Sandton. Robben was doing squats and a big burly guy was next to him for security.
seen Patrick Viera (airport), Ronald Koeman & Robin van Persie (Mandela Sq.) and Ivan Zamorano (our hotel!).
I guess I'm biased, but nothing could make the annoying sound of vuvuzelas sound pleasant. Totally pointless and out of place in a football stadium. FIFA should have banned them. They completely kill any atmosphere.
Gustavo Kuerten was at a bar near the stadium in Durban after the Brazil - Portugal match. He was super nice and friendly and hung out for a few hours; two of my friends got a picture taken with him.
Just back home last night Believe it or not Had breakfast with Desmond Tutu and was interviewed by Baddiel and Skinner amongst other things And yes ,met the famous Gronum and the Gronumites Also ran into a number of Australian celebs that no one here would know
Only Hans Jorg Butt so far, at Nino's in Johannesburg. http://i671.photobucket.com/albums/vv77/yessam1277/IMG01612-20100629-184922222.jpg
Saw Chris Kamara at check in for the CPT - LHR BA flight on Sunday night, and also at baggage reclaim. I was amazed he was travelling economy! Didnt speak to him as he was surrounded by guys telling him all their views on footy, and I dont think he was in the mood for my Frank MacAvennie set of questions! Hope this doesnt read the wrong way but I was surprised how young and trim he looked...
I met a couple of the members of Tinariwen, the group from Mali that played the big concert before the World Cup, at a Vodacom store in Joburg airport the day I arrived in SA. I'm a big fan of music from Mali so I was glad to try out my limited french to talk to the guys.
an English friend of mine met Robbie Savage at OR Tambo and the entire english squad wandering abt in Sun City. But are the english players considered famous after their disastrous world cup outing ? hes not really famous but hes the head scout for chelsea fc and he was not more 10 mts away from me at king shaka airport. hes a nigerian guy who played for nigeria in the 1994 world cup. his name is Michael Emenalo.
