That's it, 4x0 well deserved, Australia were their own worst enemy early, Germany wasted many chances but were up 2x0 anyways. Muller for MOTM for me.

    4x0 in the end.

Kroos was left on the bench as well. :D

Job done. Consider the World Cup officially opened.

90+2' 4-0 #19 Cacau leaps acrobatically to "avoid" (or underscore) a tackle at midfield right sideline. Yellow card for simulation! Martin Tyler immediately zings: "That's one for Juergen to discuss in the studio"

Well, Australia knew they had a very small chance to get a result here.

So, besides the goal diff (which is secondary to points) and the red for Cahill (who was not playing well anyway), they are where they expected to be.

The next one is the game that trully matters to Australia.

Since 2000, it is for people that lived at least 8 years in our country and you can speak German. Which was the case for all players, incl Cacau.

WTF are you talking about? How are countries not being open about using immigrants on their national teams?

I know you're a newbie here. You're not exactly making a good first impression.

I did not realize the kid was 2, so I will take your point and shut up about this instance, but my comments were mostly aimed at soccer and this mess with nationalities in general.

Again those players where either born or moved to Germany at a very early age. In case you missed it Germany has a verly large number of immigrants so it is only natural than you'll find players of non-german ancestry in the german team.

Fact is the Australia team has more 1st and 2nd generation immigrants than the German team. Look up the players bios yourself. And its no shame to have immigrants play in your team. An Algerian won France a world cup, nobody complained.

And most importantly, the rules don't change for soccer players. Immigration is a human phenomenon and if X or Y country says "this is what it takes to be a citizen" then that's that.

Watching ESPN, is it just me, or does Klinsy's accent get thicker when he's talking about the Mannschaft?

Klinsy was famous (infamous?) for his diving back in the day. I wonder how many PKs he drew from flopping in the box. :D

Great game and the outcome was never in doubt. We chose not to run up the score as we have in other matches against sides that we dominated which may bode well for us going forward. The games have just begun. Oh and if those stupid horns produce German victories like the one we just saw then I am all for em!

Not without Cahill, but I wasn't really impressed with Ghana or Serbia.

Well done Germany. A typical German game that works well.

Aust were terrible in so many areas, but never really recovered from the early goal. We don't really have a Plan B and that showed tonight as we simply got worse and German combined better. But they did do it easily.
It at least may have been interesting if Aust had of taken their very early chance of Garcia's, or been given a few more of the 50/50 calls (German handball, Cahills stupid tackle which wasn't a red card, Schweinstigger's diving antics made it look worse than what it was). I just wanted to see a close game, even though i didn't think Aust would win.
Good luck to Germany for the rest of the tournament. You have the game, coach and players to go a long way.
Edit: Get rid of your needless diving antics and it would be a better game to watch. Poor tactics to attempt to have opposition players carded and it came back to bite you with 2 yellows of your own.

On the one hand they've had three relatively easy openers - Saudi Arabia being the easiest, but Costa Rica and Australia being teams Germany is clear favorites against.

But full credit to them for not being hesitant and going for goal from the beginning unlike lots of teams in the first game.

Wow, Australia are even worse than I thought. Real clever decision to leave Scott McDonald out of the squad. Nothing more than negative anti-football and Germany could have had at least six or seven. Australia won't score a goal in this tournament. Contender for weakest team in South Africa.

Let's all keep in mind the sensitivity of a topic like changing nationalities. :)
