You could go huge and run around from place to place doing shark diving, wine tasting, robben Island, aquarium etc etc but best you chilll and only do what is on your current schedule. You can never do everything that a city has to offer and with the WC games being in different cities and lots of travelling to games /sitting in airports it is better not to fill your days with as much as possible. So - hope you see some whales and enjoy your dinners!
Great, that is my opinion too, better to focus on a few things and do them properly. Besides, I'm totally against cage diving. However, saw that there was this place doing shark expeditions without cages, that sounds more interesting! Apex Shark Expeditions out of Simon's Town if anyone is interested [Lonely Planet 2009].
my cousin and i are staying off grayston in Sandton from June 9th - June 15th. going to try to make the Carnivore meetup but that is going to depend on our Polokwane arrangements since we have tickets to the Mexico-France game on the 17th. let us know if you're interested in splitting some cab fare or just strength in #s kind of thing also attending game 1, USA-Slovenia and Holland-Denmark.
question #1: in a restaurant what is the standard tip? in Mexico its 10%, in USA 15%. question #2: i plan to use my credit card in larger stores, but don't want to exchange a lot of cash money. will it be easy to use USD or euros in stores, cabs, etc?
1) 10% is the norm here.. 2) No. You need Rands, shops/cabs(ect) do not accept other currencies. Maybe at a holiday resort. If you use your credit card they will charge you in rands.
You gotta laugh at number 2. If you walked into any store here in the UK and tried to hand them foreign currency they would look at you like you were a spaceman. US the same. Cant understand why people think SA would be any different.
because i've travelled to different countries where i have used USDs or euros and they have been accepted. not as uncommon as you think esp throughout Latin America & the Caribbean (my part of the world). don't understand the reason to laugh at the comment. the kids that sell knick-knacks at Lake Atitlan are up to date on all the exchange rates.
I've been to a couple of smaller/less developed countries where they do accept dollars because it's so much better than their currency. I think plenty of tourists are going to be very suprised at just how developed south africa is. SA has a pretty strong economy and there's no real reason for shops to accept other currencies.
correct. btw, South Africans my question wasn't a knock on the strength of the RSA economy or your development. from experience i just know USDs and euros are pretty much universal on my side of the planet. you can even get your change in the currency your paying with in some countries even from cabbies. didn't want anyone to get the wrong impression.
Hi, Can anybody give an estimate on the price of a taxi from OR Tambo airport to the Kensington suburb? Thanks.
I think it is actual a legal requirement to pay in Rands. Shops, bars, restaurants, etc are legally prevented from taking any currency other than Rands. In turn, if you come to Mozambique people will kill for Euros, USD, etc.
Is it true.. some visitors were mugged in their taxi while going from the airport to their hotel accommodation earlier this week ? i havent read any news report on this but a fellow from thefanatics forum reported this!
Need some help getting to Soccer City from OR Tambo. (please correct or complete) 1. Catch Gautrain to Sandton Transport Hub (a stop on the Gautrain line)? 2. Then...?
Seems that there is a shuttle from OR tambo to the Wetsgate Hub, then you can take a shuttle to Soccer city Otherwise Gautrain to sandton and shuttle to Soccer city via Westgate hub Or taxi to Metrorail station in Kempton Park then metrorail to Soccer city
for people flying into lanseria, what would be the best/safest way to get to the Joburg CBD/Stadiums or in my case - my accommodation in Auckland Park ??? My accommodation said they can send a taxi to lanseria to get me but I dont want to use them since they could hike their rates
They said that there was a shuttle service from Lanseria to Sandton but then you would still need a taxi to AUckland park - get quotes and see which option is the cheapest.
I'm staying at Cape Deco Lodge in Woodstock. Is it safe to walk from here into the centre of Cape Town during the day?
if anyone, while in cape town, has a question relating to anything at all, please feel free to contact me on my mobile, ill give you the number via PM
is it safe if I wear england shirt in cape town? I am going next week and have brought england shirts, is it safe for me to wear this? I am scared maybe people might not like it thanks for your help
you think wearing an england shirt is a problem ? jeeez.. some ppl.. my question is how acceptable is it wearing a Nigeria jersey in any city in south africa ? considering a lot of local ppl have hatred against nigerians for various reasons and what if South Africa face Nigeria in the round of 16 ? any problems for nigerian fans wearing their jersey to support them at the stadium ? i bet not because nigerians will come out with full force to support their team but still ? this is a legit question because there is no known rivalry against both nations from the AFCON tournaments and could there be a rivalry this time around because South Africa are the host ? Fiercest rivalry in africa - 2 of them The west african rivalry - Ghana vs Nigeria The north african rivalry (we all know which one) - Egypt vs Algeria
