Hercules is not ahead because of goal difference. Spain does not use goal difference as a tie breaker as the first decider when two teams are level on points. They are ahead because they defeated Betis 3-2 at home where as Betis could only tie 1-1 at home so they by grabbing 4 out of the 6 points in head to head competition with Betis have the tie breaker advantage. It gets even worse if there is a 3 or 4 way, that is what sucks about the liga, they unlike the rest of Europe do not use goal differential as the first tie breaker.

The Real Betis Balompie Circus has begun as current and ex members of the Teams Board during the Lolo reign started showing up at the Guardia Civil HQ's in Sevilla to make the necessary declarations in the ongoing fraud and embezzlement case against Lolo. I am sure by the time Lolo has to make his appearance on 14 July War and Piece will look like a cartoon book in size by the time these undesirables finish their declarations and finger pointing.

I guess when you receive monies for meetings and the only thing you do is say yes Don Manuel you should be indicted for conspiracy since you knew all along what was going on. I hope these guys and Lolo get to rot in a jail cell and this be a learning moment for those who want to be members of the directiva but have no cojones to stand up when there are wrong doings!

The legends of 1935 who won the only league title for Betis in their history were looking down from the heavens on Saturday as Betis defeated Huesca with a Juanma goal in the 93rd minute of the match. Let's be honest here, Betis did not deserve to take home the 3 points and as the match went into the 4 minutes of injury time, things were not looking up for Betis. Levante and Real Sociedad both won, Cartagena won and Elche had lost and Hercules was to play on Sunday. A tie would have been enabled Cartagena to jump ahead on points and Hercules who won on Sunday would have opened up two point leads. Instead Odonkor who hasn't done jack all this season and is heading somwhere else after the season is over got free on the left wing and centered a ball that took a Betis bounce and Juanma was there to head it in with less then 40 seconds to go in the match.

    Here is the winning goal:

    [ame="http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vb5qHgaY-_E&feature=related"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vb5qHgaY-_E&feature=related[/ame]

Here is how the race is shaping up with 3 games to go:

    Real Sociedad 68
    Levante 68
    Hercules 64
    Betis 64
    Cartagena 64
    Villareal B 60
    Elche 60
    Numancia 56

Next week there are 2 head to head matches with the 7 teams still in the running for promotion:

    Hercules-Cartagena and Betis-Numancia.

Real Sociedad is at Cadiz who is barely out of relegation zone and has been hot of late, Levante is in Irun who are in relegation zone and need the 3 points and Elche is home to Murcia and need for Cartagena, Betis and Hercules to lose their matches to close that 4 point gap.

Betis got the 3 points today vs Numancia. Now Betis is in 3rd spot & one point behind Levante. However, Levante, Hércules, & Cartagena play on Sunday & Betis could return back to 4 position. Just if you wondering, Levante is visiting Real Unión, while Levante will host Hércules. I guess if there is a draw from that latter match, Beticos will be very happy. Arriba Real Unión!!!

FT 1-1 in Salamanca, Odonkor who hadn't done jack all season bags the Betis goal. Hercules scored in the 43rd minute to win their match and are now in third place tied on points with Er Glorioso with 48 points. The only good thing is that Levante who as of today are in Primera will have nothing to play for against Betis next week. Where as Hercules will be on the road against Real Union who are in second from the bottom and their chances of avoiding relegation are very slim.

Odonkor has been plagued by injuries. He`s actually not that bad of a player when he is fit and running (hardly ever).

I am praying that Betis will win promotion this weekend, and then we can talk about clearing out all the `excess baggage` - example: Lopera, Capi, Dani, Rivas, Melli.. and the list goes on :)

Best of luck to our Verdiblancos.

One more year in Segunda, as all the teams that had to win did win! Duh I wonder if Lolo is going to charge next year the same prices that he did this year when he announced that he needed to charge primera division prices for the team and when they got promoted those who bought season tickets this year would not have to pay the projected increase in prices. Now that they are in Segunda for another year and ladies and gents this team could be in Segunda for many years to come with the players they currently have, will Lolo reduce prices or increase them so he can continue to pocket more money. The question that should be asked is why any one would renew or purchase season tickets for Lopera FC as long as Lolo remains the majority owner pulling all the strings?

Betis needs a new face at the top of the leadership hierarchy.

What was the tie-breaker? I ask because Betis was level on points and had a better goal differential than Hercules. How did the Segunda determine the tie?

I guess that makes sense but don't a lot of leagues use goal differential first? That sucks, I gather Betis will have a huge roster turnover now that they failed to get promoted. Kiss Emana goodbye. Damn.

Spain is the only major country in Europe who doesn't use GD as the first tie breaker and it's a real pain in the ass because you really never know where you are in the standings during the year because you still haven't played all the teams and usually going into the last week you need a Ph'D to figure out what combinations have to occur for your team to avoid relegation or get promoted. It plays great for the cardiology department in the hospitals. I am in favor of using the GD regardless as the first tie breaker and then you can use the head to head and other tie breaker rules.

Plus specific, short term actions such as injuries or red cards can have a big effect when using head-to-head. That being said, everyone plays by the same rules, regardless.

I guess you're trading in a Cadiz road trip for trips to Xerex and Granada. That should make Lopera happy, saving the money on travel costs.

I didn't even bother to check how Betis would have classified based on GD because I wasn't saying that GD would have gotten them promoted this year or saved the previous year. I just think that GD opens up the matches and makes it more interesting, if your hot and up by 3 goals you keep your foot on the accelerator and try to bag a couple more because those may save you late in the season.

Knowing how tacanho Lolo is he'll probably send the team bus via N-IV instead of the autopista to Jerez!!:D
