Where are you guys planning to watch the World Cup, particularly the USA games? Are you sticking to our regular joints the Phoenix Landing and Banshee or do you plan on going somewhere else? How much time are you taking off during the World Cup? Are you interested in helping do decorating and other event planning stuff at the local bars for USA games?
Same here split between the Banshee & Landing. I think I'll be at the Landing for the USA vs England game because of, well, there are a lot of reasons...It's personal in a lot of ways. I want to beat the English so bad.
HAve a big group of fans for the US/England, let us know when you know where the viewing parties will be held. We are looking for a place in Boston, perhaps along the commuter rail. All pro US fans.
If any of you will be in Las Vegas or are interested in joining us on Jun 12th, a bunch of American Outlaws from AZ and California will be watching at the ESPN Zone next to New York New York. You are more than welcome to join us. I know there will be many England fans so the more American fans we can get the better. Win or lose the after party will be awesome.
Ok! So. We're pretty much gonna be split between the Banshee and Landing because both bars will be madhouses and some people just won't be able to get to one or the other for this game. If you want to go to the Phoenix Landing AO Boston will have plenty of people there. If you want to go to the Banshee AO Boston will have plenty of people there. Remember, this will not be like our regular viewing parties. These bars will fill up and they will fill up EARLY. We're decorating both bars with USA stuff, too. Something more formal will come out this week in an email blast and here. Feel free to post your ideas here, etc.
I'm presently unemployed and don't plan on seeking employment until after the group stage. I'm going to the Landing for all US games, and will mix it up for non-US games. Thinking McGann's for the opening match, South Africa vs. Mexico.

there is something going on at the house of blues. Someone was telling me about it at the game in Hartford. Sadly im stuck in Keene NH so I am going to have to watch a game at a bar up here.
I will be joining some pro US fans at Hugh O'Neil's in Malden Center if anyone can not make the other places or they get shutout of the bars. No decorating or anything like that, just a good bar to watch an exciting game. I have contacted the bar and they will be showing the US game, as well as all World Cup games, on the big screen. I don't work for the bar, just like the bar. Thought I would offer. I am only interested in creating a pro-US atmosphere in as many places as we can. So it seems like Phoenix Landing is the place to be for the game come Saturday. How big a place is it, I'm new to the Boston area and I am looking to go to an exciting place to watch the game with other USA fans. Any other suggestions?
I might have an old, spare US scarf or two that I'd be willing to donate to The Banshee, provided they tack it/hang it over the bar.
Banshee & Landing are the two places to go for USA. Other places will be mostly curious onlookers and posers.
I do a lot of work in Malden Center and I've popped my head into this bar before for a pint. Good place. if anyone is in the area they should go there. Side note: Malden Center is home to some of the craziest people I've ever encountered. It's like a un-patrolled Central Square. Nothing like Lynn though, that's a whole other story.

How early should we plan on getting to Phoenix Landing or the Banshee? Before the Argentina v Nigeria game? Before noon?
got ******** yourself, I am a loyal US fan who can get to Malden easier. Have named one of my kids after a US national player and both after soccer player, posers, I don't think so. Don't ever judge without knowing the facts! Haven't missed a US game in New England in 15 years except for the birth of my child and I was at a game 2 days before the birth.
Landing - I bet the place is full by 10 am and that might even be a little conservative. I know lots of people planning on being there when the doors open at 7 am. Banshee - For whatever reason the culture of Dorchester means everyone will be showing up just in time for kick-off or a little late. Not sure why but every big match I've been too always doesn't fill up until right after kick-off at the Banshee (except for the Revs play off game last year, that was full early but that wasn't the regular Banshee crowd.) I'm not sure how Argentina v. Nigeria will end up affecting this phenomenon so I'd shoot for 11 am. I have a soccer game at 8 am so I won't be getting to the Banshee until 11. I know people going far earlier than that though. Kyle, I don't think Garrett was referring to you. He was referring to the other viewing parties in the Boston area (i.e. The Banshee and Landing will be good, the HOB will be lame.) Malden isn't generally considered in the immediate Boston area (although I know that the orange line keeps you very well connected to the big city.) Watch at your local in Malden, I'd love to hear how the turnout is.
Hey guys, I hate to be lame, but if this place fills up and they are turning people away, whats the backup? Anyone going anyplace else IN Boston if they can't get into the Landing or the Banshee? GameOn on Lansdowne by Fenway has lots of TV, maybe the most I've seen. I plan on being at the Landing, just saying...always good to have a backup plan.
Whoa! Easy. I wasn't talking about you in particular. I am talking about all the bars that only show soccer every four years and the people that only care every four years. Plus I was talking about the immediate Boston area. Malden is a bit like Braintree it's on T but I don't think I would consider it immediate. Maybe Qunicy, Everett, sure. Remember the Red Sox have several games during the World Cup and you will likely be overwhelmed by pink hats who heart Jacoby Ellsbury but can't tell you what position he plays. In Central there is the Field, Tavern on the Square, and Plough and Stars. Banshee is bigger than the Landing because they can (legally) use their upstairs and they've expanded to outdoors, too. There is another bar across the street and Broadway in Southie isn't far away either.
Yeah if you get turned away at The Landing I would recommend Tavern on the Square (further down on Mass ave towards Harvard).
The Landing will be packed, and while I don't know the official capacity, I'd say around 150 maybe? They've also opened up a small outdoor seating area, so that could expand things somewhat. Great venue to watch a match at though, if you can get in you should have fun. I'll second that: lots of TVs, plenty of space, and it's certainly soccer-friendly. As for Harvard Square you'll be able to watch matches at Grafton Street, Shays on JFK Street, and while I don't know this for sure, I bet you could get the games on one of the outside TV's at the Beer Garden at Charlie's Kitchen.
vs. We'll gladly take that one point against England but now it's time to move on and hope our boys don't lose steam after that hard fought stalemate. Hopefully Tim Howard just rubbed some dirt on it and he'll be fine. Should Buddle have started?
