This is really a nasty message, perhaps unintentionally so.

The original poster explained that he booked a year ago, just as many of us bought our match tickets a year ago, both wrong decisions as it turned out.

And what were you doing a year ago?

Firstly, it was not intended as nasty in any way.

Secondly, read his post again. He didn't explain that he booked a year ago, he said he got cheap prices in Germany in 2006 by booking a year in advance.

Thirdly, a year ago I was putting my name into the ballot for WC tickets! Regardless though, I have a fundamental sense of the value of money. £150+ for a B&B clearly isn't right, and I would know that before booking. Yes some price fixing has occured, but not to this extent. I can't help but feel the OP hasn't explored all his options well enough.

The Grand Parade Hotel, right on the beach in Durban for example. Which I believe is a luxury hotel, costs 1100ZAR for a double room.

You can't help yourself, can you?

"some price fixing"? I am on the ground here and in February at the height of the mania I was consulted by 2 professionals in the property game based in Knysna for advise on maximizing rental income for the WC.

My advise was to lower the deposit required from 100% to 50%, reduce the minimum occupancy from 30 days to 15 days and add value.

Instead, they turned a deaf ear and confidently expected their
R 15,000 per day house rental, R 2000 per guest room money to roll in from
the French (!) and the Danes, all because their teams were going to play some golf locally!

Please don't say there was just "some" price fixing/gouging. It was the norm. Finish and Klaar.

    Thanks for your support BMP.

For information my first lot of accommodation was booked on 17th June 2009. Within a week of booking it I had an email to say there had been a computer error! That the price I was quoted (which was reasonable) was incorrect as a result and that in effect they wanted a 400% increase on the price I had booked.
This kind of thing has happened to me six times, and as a result I sought legal advice from an attorney in SA. Some of the properties have relented and are honouring thier original committment.

I have spent hours, days and months researching and enquiring, to find accommodation appropriate to our needs. I have a good deal of correspondence with Chief Executives of Hotel Groups and airlines all of whom admit to gouging, although they don't use that term
The government appointed a team on the Competition Commission to investigate price gouging as a driect result of the sack full of mail received by the President.

As for a fundamental sense of value, I am a mature seasoned traveller, loooking for reasonable accommodation at a fair price, which I accept would demand a premium at peak times.

I gave a link to a property at which I am stating, as an example.
I have just had another look at the availability and show the rates below.

Anyway, we're well off topic, so enough said.

That would depend on your definition of luxury. I did consider this hotel but decided I'd prefer to pay more for a B&B.

The main international hotel chains set the standard for price gouging and were followed by many of the local providers. In Japan in 2002 and Germany 2006 I managed to get some top quality hotels at reasonable rates. I lowered my expectations for South Africa early on but have managed to secure all my accomodation albeit paying more than I had originally expected.

Does any1 have a link to that page that lists your previous phase tickets and allows you to edit guest details? I need to retrieve some information about some of my guests.

The ticket resale area only gives you the guest names, nothing more

Do you think Fifa will sell final tickets?

I see a lot of sold-out status but the final is not available....
Does someone know FIFA phone number for such questions?

I am going but not until the 10th July, making selling the tickets impossible without going through resale. Someone else has already asked me for the final ticket.

My friend and I have 2 tickets Cat 1 for the England v USA match, and I believe we are willing to sell for the actual price. No extra. Hit me back on here. We can mail you the certificate they sent us to collect the tickets.

I have put my TS-5 France Cat 1 tickets up for resale at FIFA.com but I doubt they will sell.

As I said, I don't mean any disrepect by my comments and I truly hope this WC is a succes however, the Confed Cup showed me SA is not ready. It was rough.

As for the Price gauging, as I also stated, now; 2 weeks from the start I am getting emails for tons of hotels we have been emailing for a year now telling us they have availability and cheaper prices. One of the hotels I booked for Cape Town was pretty far away and now I'm getting emails from all over CT but again, doesn't matter at this point.

I don't believe FIFA and SA regarding Ticket Sales. Just over a week ago, they had 500,000 tickes available. They don't say how many they have left but say they are selling 90,000 more on their site as of today. I know more people from US, UK, and FR that have backed out cause of cost and transportation worries. The safety aspect doesn't bother me at all as I've been all around and never had a problem but I do have friends who've admitted it is a concern for them. They are following the US and Uk.

Since when has FIFA had a SF and F still available at this stage of the event? I've been to the past 4 WCs and never gotten tickets for this stage or the Opening match.

My actual problem though lies with the infrustucture (Transportation). Many are surprised when they find out SA is not as small as it may appear. SA is a very large, open, and vast country. Going from CT to Joberg is like traveling from New York City to Jacksonville, Florida. That's no easy drive. Ever since SA was announced, I followed closely to see if they were going to update their infrastructure to assist in getting from venue to venue. I thought they would add a train system but they fixed up some roads and that's about it. Most occured in the cities. Good for the cities but again, I knew it was going to be hard to get around SA from city to city.

As many have said, what's done is done but it is very upsetting never the least because even before I was knocked out, I already reduced my trip to seeing just two matches because of cost in getting around to the cities that France was playing in. And only if they made it thru was I going to consider traveling to either Joberg or back to CT for another. But that was just me and I've been planning for 4 years like many have as well.

Again, I hope the SA people put up a good show and host it well because that is what will make the WC great, even when watching on TV because most of us will be following the event further then just the TV.

Again, good luck to all going and happy/safe travels! Who knows, maybe my doctor will release me and allow me to fly for a R16 or QF in time.

Got it! Thanks. I had to use Opera to get to it. SOLD!!! My tickets SOLD!!! but they are keeping USD$200 bucks though while they make more money from whoever bought my tickets. Such BS but I suppose they expect me to be happy that I didn't lose the entire lot and you know what, they're right!

Have a great WC everyone. I'm jealous forsure...

They are keeping 200 USD? You had a Cat1 TST5 right? That's 1078 USD. They will be refunding 878?

    Just a point of order!

There is not a UK team.

On 12th June USA play ENGLAND

Or maybe that should be North America plays England? :)

I had a very wierd experience with collecting tickets.. i purchased tickets on friday online. I bought tickets for game 52 in my name, my id number and on my credit card. I then recieved an email and confirmation number addressed to me.

I then used the same pc, maybe 5 minutes later, to buy tickets for my cousin using his name, his id number and his credit card. Email was then sent addressed to him with the ticket number.

He then went to pick up his tickets using his credit card and his ID and it gave him his tickets AND my tickets...??

My tickets came out in his name!

I can confirm that it charged my credit card and not his. I still have the email which is addressed to me. The tickets that came out have my confirmation number on them so they clearly are the correct tickets.

My tickets were bought using my fifa account and i his were bought using another fifa account. So the way i see it is that, apart from the ip address that the tickets were bought on, they have nothing else in common.

    Any ideas?

Have the same issue. Need to update passport and credit card number, can't do. Someone on another board surmised that they removed that functionality during the fix for the big crash last week. He figured it would be temporary. We'll see.

Someone using the scanner got em! I noticed a couple of outgoing emails in the account that the scanner uses showing hits for 61 cat 2 and 62 cat 2 and 3! Go scanner!

Noticed a few hits on Match 5 and 32 cat 3 as well.
