thinking about the World Cup and came upon this poll to pick 4 Forwards for the US team. I'm struggling to find 3. http://www.twiigs.com/poll/Sports/Soccer/55096
I totally agree with you. If Donovan gets hurt, we better play every game for a tie. Finley???? C'mon!
I know, Finley has speed, but the guy can't score! Buddle I'm not sure about. He's great for the MLS, but I don't think he can perform on the National stage. E Johnson, just is never consistent enough. Ching is past his prime. Gomez not so sure about, he was always more of an attacking midfielder or winger to me, but he may have found his form finally. Altidore is the only for sure forward and he did shitty playing for Hull. Maybe that was just a fluke. Maybe not. I have a feeling that our midfielders could end up scoring more goals then our forwards this WC.
Well said, coming from a true MLS fan. I can tell. Thats awesome. I watched my first full MLS game last week when the Red Bulls played the Sounders. I watched mainly for Tim Ream, but I actually enjoyed the play as well. Obviously, it is different from international soccer clubs, but it was a good game. New York seemed to be missing a goal scorer, and with Henry coming, they may be the team to beat. Tim Ream is going to be something special in the league.
Agree for the most part aside from the bolded. Gomez played so crappy (it seems) because he was out of position. He started with the Galaxy as a striker (scored a ton of goals his first year), but after injuries was moved to winger and failed. One season back at striker and he's scoring again, so I think that's his natural position. And for Jozy, you can't put that all on him. He had absolutely no service, had not one but two terrible managers and played for a generally crap team. He wasn't perfect, but I thought he played well for what he had. Put him in a side like Aston Villa with a solid MF, and he's a 10 goal man. Plus, he's only 20 years old, he's got a great future if he can find a better team to latch on with.
no, you're right. I take those two comments back. I should have been more clear on my thoughts on Gomez. Same with Altidore, it's hard to score when you have a crap team.
the one thing that makes me somewhat behind Buddle is that he's playing so well with Donovan right now. They have a chemistry and know how to play off of each other so he's worth a shot. Jozy is the only definite yes. But I'd go, Altidore, Ching, Buddle, and Gomez. As much as I don't like the idea, I imagine we'll see a lot of Jozy up top by himself with Landon or Dempsey behind him as a second striker. I hope they keep Landon back in midfield and Dempsey out right, but with this thin pool of strikers I doubt Bradley will have the guts to roll the dice on them. Charlie Davies accident really hurts this team.
I think Dempsey is a good option to be a withdrawn striker. He plays absolutely no defense as it is. Then atleast you can have somebody else buzzing down the right flank...but even that is a tough call. I like Gomez as an off the bench option. Most of his goals in Mexico this year were as a sub, and he tied for the league lead. Something to be said for making an impact in a short amount of time. Many players can't do that without a full 90.
Hahaha! Robert Pires wants to come to MLS like Henry, but won't go to Philly because it's not a "beautiful city". http://translate.google.com/transla...59_pires-refuse-philadelphie.html&sl=fr&tl=en
Unless one of the LA teams picks him up he'll be SOL I think. Maybe Chicago would consider it, but from the looks of it any other MLS teams going for DP's have been targeting others. I don't think he'd bring much to the table as it is.
according to Soccer By Ives today, Chicago is interested in a different French Player, current PSG Midfielder Ludovic Giuly: "Giuly could potentially be plying his trade in the Fire midfield once the summer transfer window opens, as the 33-year-old midfielder has reportedly drawn interest from Chicago."
To somebody like him, I'm sure it'll do well. Obviously the city is terrible with the smog, but I'm sure he'd love the Hills, Malibu, etc. Probably the most beautiful MLS city really would have to be Seattle in my book (which counts for nothing).
I dunno man...at 36...coming to MLS...I don't know if he really gets to pick and choose where he goes so much...
