Re: Question 4: What international games?

I still expect to see Man U based upon the one stadium rendering we saw...

I would like to see Inter or whatever team that José Mourinho is coaching so I can get a photo of him with Mike's banner in the background.

I like the idea of a 4 team tournament that was mentioned earlier at some point. The sister city idea is cool. Maybe teams from the center of their respective countries/continents and it could be a Heartlands tournament.

I would not mind seeing anyone from a big 4 club down to a Championship level team so we could see how we really compare. English, Spanish, German, African, Asian. Bring them on.

Really, I am not too picky at this point. I want to see KC play someone other that the Brass, Creighton, UMKC, Drake, Jewell, etc...

Except for the bit where Mo is now closer to weeble shape than player shape, that would be fun.

How about Central American teams or an Indian teams?

How about Central American teams or an Indian teams?

I really enjoyed the atmosphere of the Santos Laguna Supra Ligua game and the Classico game. They really brought out passionate fans.

The tournament idea rocks! It makes the games worth something.

I think we'd do better going to India with Chhetri, we'd bring in more money that way playing an I-League team over there...

I think getting some Mexican teams in here would be a lot of fun and probably a smart thing. Bring back Herc?

Or how about we get Jimmy Conrad to mak some calls back to Lech Poznań?

I for sure want to see a USMNT game here as well.

I dunno about that ... cricket maybe, football ... not so much.

I mean seriously, apart from that Anglo-Asian prat NorthBank how many Indians have you seen at Wizards games in say ... five years? I'm not saying Chhetri won't draw, but I am guessing the vast majority of Indian's in KC have never heard of him. Sachin Tendulkar turning up to have a knock in the park with his kids would draw hundreds :D

Not really an international game, but a large percentage of employees where I work are 1st generation Ethiopian immigrants. Might be an audience the marketing department could target for one of those community and culture night promotions. Bring a few hundred extra people out for a normal Wizards home game?

I like the idea of scheduling friendlies with sister city clubs. In fact it would be very cool to make it part of broader city-wide events such as cultural festivals, touring artists and musicians, guest lecturers at local universities and museums, etc. Then the week could culminate with the friendly.

    So bring on...

    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

along with Tigres, Atlas, Monarcas Morelia, and maybe even Mighty Blackpool or the East End Lions.

I agree the idea of a larger cultural festival is a neat idea. Scheduling might be a chore but you could also look into tying in to other KC events. E.g. bringing over an Irish team during Irish Fest.

I think most people are going with 3 teams is because that makes for an easy quick tournament (with the Wizards as team 4) that can take place over the course of a single weekend.

Re: Question 4: What international games?

Actually, I mentioned more than three in my post. In fact, I mentioned three clubs from our three sister cities in Mexico as well as two clubs from Freetown in Sierra Leone.

I only posted three images because of BigSoccer.com's limitations on images per post.

The only sister city with a football club I didn't mention was from China and that was because it might be a huge logisitcal headache given the mercurial nature of U.S. - China relations.

I'd like to see teams from any of the "big 4" leagues.
    From other countries:
    Mexico: any Primera team
India: I like the idea of the Indian national team
    Israel: Maccavi Haifa
    Greece: Olympiakos
    Scottland: Celtic, Rangers

I earlier had posted I would like to see Hamburg come and play, I should restate that because I completely forgot one of my favorite clubs ever. FC St. Pauli would be a great club to bring over. They come from a proud and tough province within Hamburg, they have always been a against authority type club that knows it will never be one of the big boys and takes pride in it. I think it could be a great partnership with them as well as Celtic who they already have a partnership with.

Re: Question 4: What international games?

I haven't read all the discussion here as originally I didn't have much of an opinion. For me, bottom line is if there's an international opponent of even marginal interest in proximity, I'm going to the game if for nothing else but the rarity of the opportunity.

However, all the recent announcements of this summer's friendlies made me realize...

    • Galaxy vs. Boca Juniors
    • Sounders vs. Boca Juniors
    • DC vs. Rangers
    • Seattle vs. Celtic
    • NY vs. Juventus
    • Man City vs. Club America
    • Celtic vs. Rangers
    • DC vs. AC Milan
    • Celtic vs. Man U
    • Chicago vs. AC Milan
    • NY vs. Sporting Lisbon/Manchester City/Tottenham

The ones I'd most like to attend are the ones that don't involve MLS teams. I love the Wizards and I love MLS, and its great marketing and publicity for us to play a marquee opponent. But I can see us play dozens of games a year, every year. I can't see Manchester United and Celtic or Manchester City and Club America but once every so often.

And my spending habits tend to support this now that I look back on it. Last year I went to Club America vs. Chivas Guadalajara at Arrowhead and AC Milan vs. Club America in Atlanta, enjoyed them both. I skipped out on our match with Atlas.

Anyways, those are the types of friendlies I'd like to see arranged...hosting two international opponents in Kansas City to showcase our world class stadium and reward our fans with an opportunity to experience something special in the sense that they might not ever be able to witness again without traveling great distance and investing a good amount of money to do so.

What about some Rugby matches? I wouldnt mind us trying to get some national team games or international test matches at the new stadium.
