I'm presently not in Columbus but on the web, I haven't seen anything officially listed about Crew Stadium showing the World Cup games. Are they advertising that they will be showing the games for 2010 as they have for the past 2 World Cups? Some friends and I wanted to converge upon Crew Stadium for the USA England clash but I haven't read anything official yet so was concerned! Has anyone seen anything?
Mark McCullers mentioned in a radio interview earlier in the week that they would be doing that again this summer. So how official that is, I do not know.
I suspect Claddagh, who got their promo materials out months ago, may have beaten them to the punch on this. IIRC, they are putting a big screen up on the lawn outside the pub!
One thing that the CFO should realize (and I think they do) is that while 2002 was an unbeliveable experience, part of the magic was that there weren't many other pubs in the area willing to show soccer, let alone be open during those hours. With Claddagh, Fado, Ruby's, perhaps Studio 35, the stadium, and i'm sure other places all showing the game, the crowds could be a lot thinner at any one place because of all the competition. I don't think anyone beat anyone else "to the punch," I think it's just a matter of more competition. Personally, i'm not expecting the crowds of over 2000 that 2002 had. Hell, in 2002, we had people from Florida drive up just for the experience, national news coverage, etc. As for that lawn, things could be interesting. I hear a lot of dogs use the area for recreation, and...you know. Hopefully the owners clean up after their pets. (It's sad when not every owner does.)
Thanks for the input, Krypto. Its so helpful when trying to promote something when one of your regulars warns people about dog sh&t. You can go out there this Saturday and look for stuff to clean up during The Crew match if it concerns you so much.
You act like it's on PPV... every bar in the city will have ESPN on for three weeks straight. Now those places also don't give a damn about soccer any other time so I see no need to support them and will spend as much time as possible at places like Claddagh/Fado/Studio35.
Point is very few bars in this city hold up as a true football/soccer bars... as said before...Claddagh/Fado will be getting my cash.. Craig( Claddagh) and Scotty(Fados) are like clockwork I cant count the times I've rolled in 7:30AM at Fados for Celtic and a pint of the black is being poured for me ..I cant get that at Joes bar down the street or ApplebeeMcBeDubs....you dont support them they go away.....and your left with bars that would rather have midget T-ball on rather then soccer.
Came across this the today while looking for some other pictures: I plan on spending most of my time at Claddagh, but this was a lot of fun and recommend heading out to the stadium if the bar isn't your thing.
Not T-ball, but awesome: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lEYQom14NF0"]YouTube- Midget Soccer[/ame]
Speaking of the World Cup, does anyone know where I can get a US MNT jersey around Columbus? I tried to order one from Soccer.com but they called me today and said they were on backorder because they ran out of friggan numbers.
