12 hours without a Gooch post. His AC Milan team plays right now as I type. Continue discussion from part III.
Gooch at Milan IV - He's Almost Out the Door ... along with Leonardo... Gooch didn't make the bench again today v. Palermo. 3 possible games left... What's the Vegas odds?
I'm amazed at your ability to fight with yourself. And to whoever started the other thread, and whose post I imagine will be merged into this thread: Gooch has been back in training for less than a week. No one is surprised that he wasn't selected for the squad. And Oddo is showing that he once again no longer belongs in a Milan shirt, let alone to be wearing it as a CB.
Can't believe Oddo has been playing for Bayern Munich & AC Milan the past couple of years, proves that anything is possible really.
I would just like to add to the chorus of people saying that Gooch would have contributed to this match. He probably thought the same thing from the comfort of his living room (or do the non-travelers watch the matches at the Milanello?) The poor showing by Oddo tonight might push Leonardo to include Gooch in the lineup for the next match. Fingers crossed.
That goal Oddo gave up was inexcusable. He didn't pressure the attacker at all and just let him have the shot. I agree, Gooch has to be watching thinking he can make better contributions than that.
I don't think anybody linked to the video of Milan's practice on Friday. http://milantime.acmilan.com/it--allenamento_a_milanello-h-0-0-11419-0 Gooch was shown working out with the rest of the team.
I think YA followers have reason to be optimistic. It looks like Onyewu was working out and more importantly participating on the field with the team in practice in today's video. http://milantime.acmilan.com/it--allenamento_a_milanello-h-0-0-11433-0
And Holden said he might play in this weekend's game. Seems like everyone (but Jones) is getting healthy at just the right time.
Me thinks Leonardo's gone and the new coach won't come in without a decent reinforcement budget and that won't be good news for Gooch.
I would love to hear this explanation and how you arrived at that conclusion. If you don't like Gooch that's fine, but believe it or not, there are coaches out there that like what Gooch brings to the table. Not to mention how cheap Onyewu's salary is. A coach might come in demanding a decent budget, doesn't mean Milan has the money and/or will to spend it.
Great to see him actually training. You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to schrutebuck again.
A new coach of any repute won't come in without a guarantee of new players and, with Milan needing defenders and arguably midfielders desperately, his demands will likely be met. Whoever they acquire, aside from the promoted youth players, will be for their starting eleven and a few notches above Onyewu. Plus, they'll be playing a style that suits the new head coach, which is another strike against Gooch, who was never a good fit in Italy to begin with.
I believe SFS's post came from a region most call 'his ass'. There's a very good chance that Leonardo will be here next season. Everyone seems to like him, and he's been able to do well with such a thin squad. Some are saying that he'll be chosen as the next Brazil manager after the WC, but it seems unlikely that Brazil would choose someone with only one season of managerial experience. Even if there is a new manager, he won't have very much money to spend. Leonardo was new and the only notable transfers in were Gooch and Huntelaar. And that was after selling Kaka for a then-world record fee. There'll be at most 20 million for the summer window, most of which will hopefully go towards the midfield. Plus, here are our current CB's: Nesta, Silva, Bonera, Gooch, Favalli, Kaladze. Nesta will most definitely get injured quite a bit next season, Favalli is retiring, and Kaladze has asked to leave. We've reportedly bought Mario Yepes, who's 7 years older than Gooch and hasn't done much of note. Gooch is relatively young (our second youngest CB) and doesn't cost much. I doubt he'll be going anywhere this summer.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20100425/sp_soccer_afp/fblitaacmilanleonardo_20100425132024 But I guess it's easier to be il cazzo in Italy.
Whether Leo's around next season or not, I don't think it directly affects Gooch. As others have said, he's cheap, he's still untested, and he brings a lot to the table as a large, defensive-oriented defender (which sounds odd, but it makes sense in the context of Serie A). My guess is that the coaching staff think of him as a potential #3 CB, but someone who could break into the starting squad, or at least get a lot of minutes. I think he'll be one of the few CBs who survives the summer massacre. I also predict that he'll be in the 18 for the next game. ps That shot of Galliani on the sideline made me shiver. He gives me the creeps.
Debatable. He got injured early in the season, before Silva or Nesta had any problems, so it's difficult to say. Also, they were giving him a chance to adapt to Serie A. But don't forget that he was often in the 18 before his injury. I'm almost certain that if he hadn't been injured, he would have played quite a bit this season.
