Is Tim Ream the deal?

The height of the player has nothing to do with how tough they are or how long it takes to develop them.

 

His long range passing was outstanding this game, but his short passing wasn't too sharp. He won tons of balls in the air, got caught badly out of position only once. He faded at the end there, but I think it was cramping from turf. Really impressive to be able to snuff out Zakuni, Ljundberg and Montero.

 

That's right, Richie Williams and former St Louis head coach Dan Donigan(who Ream played under) are New Jersey products. Close in age, career paths and hometown. I think these two may have crossed paths a lot in their day.

Donigan is now back in Jersey heading the men's soccer program at Rutgers.
I dont believe its coincidence Red Bulls got a line on Ream.....perhaps?

In the first match against Chicago he sent a pin point 60 yard pass across field to Dane Richards on the opposite touchline. Being used to the hopeful boomballs of DeMerit, Boca, Gooch etc., I had to rewind to watch it again to make sure it was deliberate. It clearly was.

As for concerns about his size. I'm yet to see him get outmuscled by an MLS striker, but I do think he will want to hit the gym before taking on international level target forwards.

IMO Richie Williams is a much better coach than he gets credit for. A few years ago before Arena became head coach of New York, Richie was in charge of a bad team and had the team on an impressive upswing. Arena came in and, with the same team, got lesser results.

Maybe they were due for a downslide at the time, but ABMOD has done very well in commanding teams several times and getting very positive results in short spells. (Yes, pun intended! )

 

I was watching this game last night - and I couldn't stop thinking about ABMOD and how funny that nickname is. My partner thought I was crazy.

 

This guy is pretty good. I've been watching New York's games and everytime there is a threat at goal he is there. I don't know how he would do at an international level but man he is good. I'm not really fan of New York but they have 1 of the best defenders in the league right now.

OK, I'll over-react. After seeing Ream's superb performances in 3 games and considering our USMNT options at left back, I'd take a look in the next friendlies.

 

why the hell not? He's one of the 30 best Americans right now, no? Can't we just leave Casey/ching home and take Ream?

 

We need to see how Tim Ream, E. Buddle, and H. Gomez do at an international level. Hmm If Hoyos starts playing regularly for Estudiantes I would definately give him a chance to play with the full USMNT next year

 

Yeah he saved a pretty sure goal from what I saw in the highlights video.

And from what I've seen so far, the kid is good and should be capped in the future, wouldn't be surprised to see him as part of the 2014 squad.

 

I played with Ream at Saint Louis University, and what nobody has mentioned so far, is that Mike Sorber was our assistant and is now the assistant for USMNT.

Is he ready for a cap right now? Im not sure about that, but his relationship with Sorbs gives him a direct link to the team.

Good luck finding any dirt on Reamer, hes about as classy as they come.

 

Yeah, I think it's best to take it one step at a time for most players, incl. Mr Ream. MLS is a step-up from college. Let him get acclimated for at least a full season, get a little more tactically acute, iron out some of his weaknesses (at times he's a little TOO comfy on the ball) before we expose him to the much quicker and better quality of play at the Int'l level. Def don't want to affect his confidence, which WOULD get bruised playing against that level of comp so soon.

This guy is a stud. He's only 22 and will be a future NT player for team USA. I can see him starting for the 2014 WC games. He's a tough, physical player reminds me of Lorik Cana and I can see him playing in the English Premier League one day.

He's a keeper. We just need to get Kandji a plane ticket out of NY...

 

I like the way he plays. He is always calm on the ball, and he is a good decision maker, and he plays out of the back rather than route one.

U can also add Ike Opara. I thought he was our best player in the recent U-20 tournament.

I can see US(A) having a strong central core unit, but WE are still week out left.

 

I disagree. There is a large list of young outside backs currently emerging. Sean Franklin, Kevin Alston, Seth Sinovic, Erik Lichaj. All of these guys are young and will be capable of playing in top leagues in 1-3 years.

 

To be fair, he did say out left.
