It just doesn't stop, good people. Got a fun little card coming up on Saturday.

As with the foreign shows, the PPV airs twice - once live (in this case, 1 PM Eastern), and again at the standard UFC PPV time of 10 PM Eastern.

As I have other plans for Saturday night - and I know that I won't be able to stay away from the results - I'll be watching live at 1. I'll stay away from here until well after the 10 PM replay, though.

    LIVE FIGHTS
    * Middleweight Title Defense: Anderson Silva (c) vs. Demian Maia
    * Lightweight Title Defense: B.J. Penn (c) vs. Frankie Edgar
    * Matt Hughes vs. Renzo Gracie
    * Rafael dos Anjos vs. Terry Etim
    * Kendall Grove vs. Mark Munoz

    TAPED FIGHTS
    * Phil Davis vs. Alexander Gustafsson
    * John Gunderson vs. Paul Taylor
    * Nick Osipczak vs. Rick Story
    * Brad Blackburn vs. DaMarques Johnson
    * Paul Kelly vs. Matt Veach
    * Mostapha Al Turk vs. Jon Madsen

a bit off -topic but i went over to Dana White after the weigh-ins yesterday, my friend asked him how long till we see a Cain vs JDS fight, said we might have to wait a bit longer for that and that we'll most likely get to see JDS vs Big Country next. Being a big fan of Big Country im really looking forward to see how he matches against a good fighter. I can't really see him winning it but as long as he puts in a good fight i'll be happy.

I don't think it was an upset. Frankie did what he needed to do. Stick & move. Also, I think BJ might had a knee injury. For what ever reason he could not move at the same pace of Frankie. Awesome Victory for that Young Man!!!

I can't wait to read Dana's comments on the Silva X Maia fight. Get your popcorn ready for that one. Dana is trying to sell this product to the world (especially the big money shieks) and this happens.

Hey, it's not Anderson's fault that Maia can't hit him. Hell at times I thought Maia was scared of Anderson. Dana can't talk to much crap. Anderson is the best p4p MMA fighter on the planet. Anderson could leave UFC & that would hurt them worse.

That's the catch22 of the matter. Despite the villian role that Silva is now playing, what he did was strategic of sorts, I mean he was winning, he knew this, and hit the brakes hard. Dana is a business man, yes he respects the sport of MMA, but he also has to sell that product. If this is the best his product (in this case, Silva) has to offer to that part of the globe, how would you in his shoes feel? You know damn well that you don't mess with Dana's money! To me it's disturbing when a champion, even in victory, fails to finish a fight. That's two apologies he's now given for his performances. How many are you going to give him?

I'm still not sure Frankie did more. He was getting jabbed to death in the first couple rounds, BJ lost the last one for sure, but I don't think Frankie did significantly more than him in round 3 or 4... However, one judge had the score cards 50-45! I need to wait for the fightmetric and a replay, because I think BJ won this fight.

How many times did BJ take down Frankie??? 0 I know Frankie took down BJ at least once. To me, Frankie was quicker on his feet & BJ didn't have an answer. To me, Frankie is a deserved Champ!!!

Take-downs are one aspect of a fight, and only count in the round they occur in. Frankie took BJ down in the 5th and no one thought BJ won that round, consequently. But the first 2 rounds were a clear edge for BJ, as he landed counters everytime Frankie came in and landed with his jab as well. Round 3 and 4 were close and no one really edged it. Penn landed the most significant punches in the 4th. The 5th is the only round Frankie clearly won. So how does Frankie get a 50-45 and a 49-46? Its ludicrous.

The event was poorly organized, but it was still loads of fun.

On the Penn - Edgar fight; It's hard to judge watching it live but i had Penn winning the first 2, a too close to call 3rd, and Edgar winning the last 2. However my friend had it 3-1 Edgar (He just spazzed out and forgot about a round). However Penn looked very subdued and slightly uninterested from the start.

As for the Dana-Silva-Maia fight; The crowd loved the first 2 rounds, but after that Silva just started running away from Maia and refused to engage. I felt the ref should've given him the warning a lot earlier and maybe even docked a point off. before the fourth round a couple of ppl in the crowd started giving Dana flack, we were pretty close to Dana so he could definitely hear them. Thats when he got pissed off tossed the belt and walked out.

I'm sorry to beleaguer my point, but there is simply no way Frankie won 3 rounds of this fight. Does your friend understand how counter-punching works? Frankie got hit more often and more accurately ALL fight except the 5th. The Fight Metric has the numbers, and its 3-2 if not 4-1 for Penn. This is a robbery of the highest order.

I've yet to watch it on TV, but from what i've read the 3rd round was the clincher for most. Some gave it to Edgar and some gave it to Penn. That said the judging was horrible since only one of them saw it as a close fight.

I had Frankie Edgar winning the 1, 3, 4, & 5th. Again Jawz, this is a discussion board & everyone is entitled to an opinion. Also, I don't hear the complaints from the BJ camp either. I am sure if he was sure if BJ won, his camp would saying as much. Remember how his camp was after the last fight vs. GSP???

You're right, its a discussion board and everyone has opinions. Unfortunately for everyone else, mine are backed by facts like Compustrike and Fightmetric. If you had Frankie winning those rounds... well, its your opinion.

As for the BJ camp, is it impossible that a fighter decides to take the high road for once? I mean GSP has been accused of and caught cheating but given a free pass because he is "a nice guy", I think BJ realizes he's better off keeping his mouth shut.

I guess the judges agreed w/ my opinion as well. I think because Frankie doesn't cut & BJ banged up knee, cause the former champs problems. I hope he gets a rematch right away. Maybe another BJ vs. K Flo in the works before the year's end???

While it was an upset, it was totally the right decision. Frankie fought his fight. Stick and move and stay off the ground. For whatever reason, BJ didn't fight his fight at all and played right into Frankie's hands.

Especially after they got all that money invested into UFC? Oh yeah, Dana wasn't happy.

As has been said elsewhere in this thread, Silva was clearly different class and could pick him apart with strikes at will. For whatever reason, he chose to stretch it out over five rounds and embarrass the guy instead of ending it in round 2 or 3.

Like Joe said during the show - I'm not a fan of Pride's yellow cards, but maybe losing some of his purse would have gotten Silva off his ass.

49-46 was a stretch and 50-45 was insane. I had BJ winning rounds 1 and 2. I had Frankie winning rounds 3 and 5. Round 4 was, to me, the closest one and I gave it to Frankie. So, 48-47.

-- This really was two different shows. The undercard was fun, with some nice finishes - I love a good anaconda choke - then, the main events happened.

How can anyone with an ounce of sanity defend Anderson? The guy did not fight after the 2nd round. If he didn't want to fight anymore, finish it, he showed he was more than capable of doing it and he's done it before to fighters such as Franklin. Maia at least damn tried even though he was completely outclassed. If Anderson Silva is so much better than Maia which he is, put the guy on his ass and finish the fight, don't waste people's time and kill the stadium crowd by circling for 15 minutes, swearing at Maia in Portuguese instead of hitting him to the point that the match resembled a pro wrestling match more than an MMA match as the completely dominated jobber with no chance of winning and a broken eyebone and nose was getting his name chanted in rounds 4 and 5. Anderson even had the sleazy manager post-match invent quotes to try and justify the heel's antics.

I heard a person rationalize somewhere saying that Anderson knew he won and so it was like a soccer team sitting on a 1-0 lead by playing defensively. That analogy is completely wrong. The soccer equivalent of Anderson rounds 3 through 5 is if a team sitting on a 1-0 lead just kicked the ball out of bounds downfield the rest of the match whenever they got possession.

Apparently one judge went insane. It's not possible to score that fight 50-45.

I scored it 48-47 for Penn with him winning 1, 2 & 4. I could see possibly scoring it 48-47 for Edgar but I'm always of the mind you have to beat the champion to be the champion and Edgar definitely didn't do it in that fight.

Jawz's fight stats back that up.

Almost as bad a decision as the Bisping/Hamill debacle a couple of years back.

BJ's site has clips of him saying that UFC's already reached out to him for a rematch with Edgar, likely in August.

So yeah, gotta wonder how that would go.

Yeah, that news is making the rounds now.

I'm sure in a re-match that Penn may try taking it to the ground more. When I think about his last 5 fights he's fought almost 100% stand-up as if to prove his striking is as dangerous if not more so than his jits.
