Speculation won't have a link, because it's just that speculation but it's not ridiculous speculation on my part. Many would agree that he's put the Quakes on the back burner relative to the A's stadium.

Here's a link that states that the stadium isn't definate yet:

    http://www.mercurynews.com/breaking-news/ci_14283051

"The Earthquakes had planned to open the stadium by 2012, but the economic downturn has made it difficult to secure funding. Owner Lew Wolff declined to predict when the project would be completed when unveiling architectural illustrations of the stadium in September. It is expected to take about two years to build the stadium from the moment construction begins.
Wolff renegotiated with the city last year to purchase 14 acres off Coleman Avenue for $7 million to build a stadium. He holds an option on the property until 2013." - San Jose Mercury

That's different than what you were saying earlier. Your original assertion was that they're no where near financing the stadium, which is false, and that the stadium project has been completely derailed, which is also false. The stadium financing is being put together as we type, and progress in also being made on it and is continuing to be made on it, with the next step being EIR certification next month.

Also your assertion that Wolff has somehow put the Quakes stadium on the back burner because of the A's ballpark is bumpkiss. Wolff has been working on an A's ballpark plan for over 6 years in now 3 different cities since before he even bought into the A's. He's been working on the Quakes stadium for about 2 years now and has made much more progress and is much further along with the Quakes stadium. Both have always been running concurrently since he brought the Quakes back and unlike the A's stadium the Quakes stadium has made much more tangible progess in that a site has been identified, EIR'ed and purchased, a practice facility is currently under construction, and a close to final design has been released. In no way are the Quakes, "on the back burner".

When an MLS team says its going to build a stadium, its going to be built! If you live in the US you know how the funding-dance works: The business people, the municipalities and its tax-payers, the state first have to decide who's going to win (ie. who gets the most bang for their bucks), who gets screw and who breaks even. The team owners basically throw around a few sites just outside the city where the team gets its name, then whichever municipality is willing to give more gets the stadium. There's a lot at stake, politicians have take pictures and get credit for getting jobs to their constituencies, towns want tax-revenues those new jobs will bring, tax-payers need to need convince that their money is well spent, and so on.

Look up how the Fire, Red Bull, Galaxy, Dallas, SLC, Philadelphia, Denver got their stadiums and you'll see similarities with SJ, Houston and DC.

Since the early 2000's actually, the stadiums in Philadelphia and East Rutherford were design with Soccer in mind. NFL owners might not be soccer's bigger fans but they're big fans of $$$ and they know an opportunity to make more when they see one.

I never said there was no financing at all. I said that financing wasn't complete and you can't build squat without having all your financing. Bumpkiss? Really? Nice manly word there. What's bumpkiss is your notion that Wolf (with 1 "f", I prefer my way), is not giving priority to the larger, more expensive baseball stadium he's been after. Being an A's fan you should know better than that. It's not hard to read Wolf's mind and pocket book on this one.

I'll break it down for you:

    $$$ for A's stadium > $$$ for Quakes stadium

capacity for A's stadium > capacity for Quakes stadium

    # of A's fans > # of Quakes fans

    Therefore, QUAKES ON BACK BURNER!!!!
