always one of my favorite threads of the season. have you considered adding total attendance numbers?
Andy, Looking forward to your weekly attendance again. I have been following this for god knows how long.
Anyone care to make predictions before the season kicks off? I'll go with.... Average - 16,740 Median - 15,450 Below 10k - 13.5% Above 20k - 21.5%
Any chance of seeing less than a sellout in Seattle with the Washington basketball team playing its Sweet 16 game that evening?
Why not? Average - 16,800 (2) Median - 15,000 (4) Below 10k - 11.1% (3) Above 20k - 21% (5) Andy - another thanks.
I think he means in terms of people wanting to watch it in general, including on TV. Washington starts at 7:30 ET, Seattle not until 9:30 ET, so people can still watch it (mostly).
OK, how about "Not being a full house" because people are watching the basketball game. The game should finish, barring overtime, around the time the Sounders kickoff, so unless they're watching in a bar nearby people will have to choose between watching the basketball game or going to the soccer game. (I'll be watching the basketball game BTW, then maybe flipping over to see the Sounders)
I think what it means that there will be a little later arriving crowd than usual so you may see some empty seats at the beginning of the game. As a Sounders and UW Basketball season ticket holder I'm planning on showing up early watching the game at a bar across from the stadium then making a mad dash to the game. I'm really hoping there is no overtime.
Do you know what kind of numbers are traveling from Houston? Love these threads, now I just need my weekly play by play thread to really feel like the season is upon us.
Thanks Andy! Always follow these threads! Have a good feeling about this season with the Union and NY in new stadiums, and increased seating in Seattle. World Cup, Landon is back, economy is recoviring, etc etc.
Eagerly awaiting to see the numbers. I'm a numbers junkie. Gotta get my fix. Also can't wait for the Timbers to play this last season in D2. Last time for us to be beating up on new franchise who may or may not be financially solvent by the end of the season. On the other hand, good riddance!
Not a problem. There's TiVO, the basketball should end about the same time the football starts, and the two crowds are different (with some overlap of course). If this were Husky football in the playoffs at the same time the Sounders were playing, then there might be a problem. But college basketball, not so much (it just doesn't have the "tradition" college football has in this area). Besides, I'm sure they'll keep us informed at the stadium.
Zero, unless they can un-sell tickets. But given that the Sounder crowd is generally youthful, there's a high likelihood that a number of them went to UW and may hang at the sports bars until the final whistle or can't stand to watch anymore, whichever comes first. So a latecomer crowd, maybe. No-show crowd, no.
So glad the thread is back. Already looking forward to my first fix of numbers next week. For predictions, I'll go with Average - 16,950 Median - 15,800 Below 10k - 13% Above 20k - 24.5% Love to break 17k for average and 25% for above 20k. Here's to the below percentage becoming irrelevant within a few years. Maybe we should start to analyze the percentage of stadium capacity filled. For those teams not named Revs or DCU, that is probably going to be the telling number.
I have no specific prediction, but given the new Philly Union, RBNY stadium, increase in SSFC Qwest capacity, and a slowly but gradually improving economy, I expect a marked improvement from last year, and the best attendance numbers for all 4 columns except for year #1.
BMO Field's slight increase in capacity might help a little in the above 20k category. I remember always seeing Toronto FC games often ending up just slightly below 20k, including one match that was at 19,997.
