This may be a little late since this topic has been causing some hot discussion in the Deutschland-Argentina thread but I figured what the heck, I might as well make this thread anyways to see what some poll results look like.

What do you guys think about this whole scenario?

EDIT: Mods, is there a way that you could change the option so that poll results are public? I forgot to check that box.

I think what Kuranyi did was wrong and was right to be punished. But I do believe that Loew's punishment has been too harsh on him. Especially since he is in great form and none of our other strikers (besides Kiessling in the first half of the season) have been playing that well. The longer Kuranyi plays well and keeps getting shunned (LB it is no coincidence you posted a clip from The Office about shunning earlier today and I chose to use that word there. :D) by Loew the more childish Loew looks IMO.

Maybe Loew should just do an "un-shun" for the summer and than "re-shun" after the WC. xD

This is a WC year and none of our strikers are in great form or consistent this season and our team overall is struggling. The fact that this is even something that needs to be debated answers the question pretty clearly in my opinion.

Löw was just looking for an excuse to axe him from the team because his ego is too big to be second/third choice. That's why Klinsmann/Löw chose scrubs like Hanke or Neuville ahead of him in 06. We now have decent strikers like Kießling and Cacau that are happy to be part of the team.

As for his great form, Schalke's whole game is centered around him. Every corner/freekick/long ball is directed at him. Gomez would score 20 goals in that system.

If Kevin Kuranyi has apologized for walking out on the team (and I believe he offered a public apology), then he should absolutely be allowed to rejoin the team.

    Forgive and forget.

In terms of talent, he probably ranks the last among the 9-10 strikers candidates we have. This is his career season, no doubt about it, but his natural talent is pretty average.

IMO, if all strikers are in good form, and base on talent n football IQ, this is the ranking:

    1) Klose
    2) Helmes
    3) Podolski
    4) Gomez
    5) Cacau
    6) Kiessling
    7) Thomas Mueller
    8) Aaron Hunt
    9) Choupo-Moting
    10) Kuranyi

    But ironically, base on form:

    1) Kuranyi
    2) Cacau
    3) Kiessling
    4) Thomas Mueller
    5) Aaron Hunt
    6) Mario Gomez
    7) Choupo-Moting
    8) Podolski
    9) Helmes
    10) Klose

In a 4-5-1 formation, as the only targetman in the system, i think he is the kinda of striker who needs services from teammates......but has no pace or technique to find chances on his own. He is the old -school towering striker type, and this doesn't really fit a 4-5-1 formation which requires an allrounded finisher with pace n technique

This is what Kuranyi can ever achieve. I dont think he can get any better despite he isn't old (27/28) at all.

I think we'll bring 5 strikers, and they'll be Klose, Podolski, Kiessling, Gomez and Thomas Mueller. Cacau probably if he can keep up with his good form.

But since Thomas Mueller can play striker if needed, i dont think both Cacau/Helmes/Kuranyi and Mueller will be called up. Or else we'll be bringing 6 strikers to SA, which is a little bit too much.

Of coz, Poldi and Mueller can play at midfield, but i really dont see the need of bringing 6 players who are capable to play at CF to the World Cup.

That's BS. If you look at the Scalke attack he is merely part of the system. Were your acusation correct he would have scored WAY more often this past weekend than he did.

You really think that Gomez's problem, what with the superior talent feeding the strikers at Bayern, is not being the center of attention on attack? Puleez.

Like Footy I am no Kuranyi fan but it amazes me how often he gets thrown under the bus. The guy consistently scores. You telling me for the past five heRs he has been the center of each team's attack? C'mon, admit it, like him or hate him his is both good AND consistent.

I don't know that we are argue "talent"...that is a far more ambiguous thing and relies on many, many other factors such as teams, coaches, team mates, system played, etc.

What we can do is look at the last six years of BL play (in parentheses above) and see who has scored and who has not. I have limited the goals to only BL goals. I did not want to get into the debate on goals scored in the BL versus the 2.BL, otherwise we would have to add guys like Michael Thurk into the mix.

As for the likes of Hunt, Mueller and Moting, I think they still need time. Would Mueller have 7 goals if he played at Frankfurt? HSV? BVB? Hunt and Moting's numbers are hardly impressive. Kroos is FAR more impressive in terms of young talent making a name for themselves. Helmes? He has shown only inconsistency, thugh injury has not helped him.

Fact is Kuranyi has been a consistent scorer across the last six seasons AND he is continuing that form now. Should he overtake Kiessling and continue to stay above Gomez, Kroos and Cacau, it will be VERY hard for Loew to leave him at home. Much like Max in 2002, leaving the BL's leading goal scorer at home could be troublesome to say the least.

Yes, that's exactly his problem. No doubt he is surrounded by superior talent but feeding him is the last thing they do. Gomez creates space for Ribery, Robben and Müller. He could be doing better but lone striker is the most difficult position in football.

Seriously? THAT'S your arguement? They spent THAT amount of money on him to create space? ROFLMMFAO. Riiight. They spent $42m on someone to "create space" for a guy who is leaving the team, another guy who was not even ON the team when Gomez was bought and a young kid who, prior to this season, only had 4 games on the first team? They bought him because he was a scoring machine at VfB and they wanted him to do the same at Bayern. Period.

Gomez's problem is that he, like Klose, is not finishing this season. And, prior to the current streak of wins, Bayern's midfield was unable to service them.

Gomez, Klose and Toni all have/had the same problem. Must be a coincidence. I bet Kuranyi would score 15 goals at Bayern

The lone striker in Bayern's system is getting NO SERVICE so you can't expect Gomez to bang in 20 goals this season. He scored more goals when he was partnered with a second striker, Olic, earlier this season.

No one said that, you did.

Wait, you mean the sepnt 42m on a lone striker to create space for the midfield? Then he *IS* fulfilling his role.

Make all the excuses you want to, but the fact is Gomez was bought to score. Sure, it is not his fault LvG plays a lone striker line-up, but that does not impact his finishing now, does it? Besides, that is off topic. The point is that Kuranyi is a consisten goal scorer and nothing you drag up about him playing at Scheiss or anything else can detract from that.

Mentos is one of the brands we've done lots of ads for. The ones that they screen in India and the ME. In India, mentos is primarily positioned as a product that's gets you thinking/witty (therefore a date :p ).
What does 'fresh maker' connote? How is it positioned there?

Here is one of the ads:

Mueller has shown more skills and allrounded game than Kuranyi ever has. Its his rookie season and he scored like 14 goals and 11assists in all competitions. Its not only his scoring records but his number of assists is pretty impressive too. Other than his allrounded game, i think his versatility and work-rate will make him a valuable asset in the WC team. The young man is also reliable, he rarely misses any game.

As a 18 year old, he was also a top scorer for Bayern II in the 3BL last season. I think his talent shouldn't be disputed.

Aaron Hunt doesn't have good stats as Mueller's. But he also has an allrounded game and is highly versatile.

And i've always emphasized that towering strikers like Klose, Kiessling and Gomez need supporting striker type like Poldi, Cacau, Mueller and Hunt to support them. goal poachers give u goals, yes, but they'll be more effective with a supporting striker beside them.
In case Loew sees 4-4-2 as a plan B, 2 towering goal poachers in the formation doesn't work perefectly. And thats why some of the better SS like Baggio, Bergkamp, Stoichkov, Rivaldo, Raul, Del Piero and now Arshavin and Kuyt are so useful in the system. They may not give u the highest number of goals, but i think with a "Trequartista" partneringour targetman, the chemistry will work out better. Thats why i think Loew will prefer having Klose, Gomez, Poldi, Kiessling and either Cacau or Mueller in his WC roster. He'll need one or two supporting strikers in case of his plan B or C.

As i've said, Podolski, Gomez, Kiessling and Klose's places are pretty much guranteed. If Thomas Mueller is also included, i dont see the need of brining in a 5th CF, not matter thats Cacau, Helmes, Kuranyi or Hunt. Coz with Poldi, Kiessling, Gomez, Klose and Mueller, u already have 5 players who can play at CF

But i really don't mind Kuranyi taking Gomez's place though, consider both are similar type. Won't see that happening to be very honest.

Nice work. I think "freshmaker" means it keeps you on your toes as all the commercials I recall have people getting out of situations by popping a couple of Mentos. At first thought it meant, fresh breath. I don't know.

I am not a fan of Kuranyi but it would be nice to have another striker that is strong in the air, considering that Klose has been in such a bad form lately.
