the percentage is a lot higher in MLS and yes, the chances are shanked all over the world they shouldn't be shanked that much it's a composure issue
Man - I made that sitter comment as a joke about all the annoying "what is a sitter" debate we have had recently - but Tony Dellbird is trying to make this about playing ability, and I disagree. To me, a sitter is basically a tap in where it's harder to miss than score. This was far, far from a sitter to me but I'm not as talented as Mr. Dellbird.
Exactly. It doesn't have to turn into an EPL vs. MLS discussion. Where's that video of Bendtner's misses again?
yes... better word, but i still like using composure because you have to keep that to rely on your technique
I agree with the wear and tear part, but I disagree about the central and figurative central role. I think Donovan is at his best when he doesn't have to the focal point of the team. He's had a great stint at Everton and showed that he can be a very good player at the highest levels, but that was with a very different role. This was similar to his play in the Cofed Cup at LM, where he really shined again. I think if we can get to the point where we can afford to have players like Donovan playing that sort of role, we'll be a much better team. Great to see him get the send off like that today.
A sitter is a sitter is a sitter...anywhere--in the US or over in Europe. I've played and watched a few matches in various parts of the globe and in every place sitters are just that--goals that should never, ever be a miss (though we know that they are missedat times). LD missed a sitter last match--verifiable, but today LD's shot was not a given for even the best of finishers which includes Donovan. My how he struck it with purity.
Except for the national team, he has to be the focal point of the team, and he's been doing pretty good in that role for a while now.
Seems like a semantics issue really. Tony's definition of a sitter is apparently a chance where you have a clear sight of goal and time to pick out a corner. Others seem to be limiting the definition of sitters to close range tap-ins. It's not really that interesting of a discussion either way.
Of course you're right, but what else are we supposed to talk about all week on BS while we tried to avoid work?
I'm a centre half and I'd have scored that Mr. DK. Donovan could have put that anywhere in the goal. If you put Myhill as favourite in that position there's something wrong. From there any player 90% sure to score that. Yet with Donovan's finish you could have had two keepers in goal and that'd have still gone in. This belongs to he... A sitter is when you have the time and the whole goal to aim at to pick your spot and you're expected to score. Yakubu's is the best example in the first half when he hit the post. It's really not that difficult. If you don't get out your seat when Yakubu goes through there cos you don't expect him to score. All your dogs ain't barking.
Enough with the sitter discussion already. It's boring and whether any of us could have scored from there is meaningless. As far as the goal goes, it's not just that he scored. That was nice of course, but the exciting part was that he hit the ball with power, accuracy, and conviction. He could've looped it in or hit it and have it deflect off the keeper's hands, but instead he hit a screamer. Reminded me of the the goal Dempsey scored vs Ghana--not in the setup but in the authority with which the ball was struck.
Abso - f'ing - lutely they are. I guess the crowd went nuts not because it was a cannon of a shot, on a spinning ball, into a tight angle in the far post - but because they just LOOVE Donovan so much they got that excited he knocked in a 'sitter' when they were already up by 2 goals and the result clearly in hand. Congrats to LD. Congrats to Arteta - aside from his goals, his movement was SO good today. Obviously feeling better each week.
There are times when I hate the iPhone. Like, for instance, today. Just because I left the stupid headphones in all night doesn't mean I want the alarm I set to go off in the headphones and not through the speakers!!!
