Add me to the long list that disagrees with your opinion of a sitter, and I'll leave it at that as well.
Don't know how you can say that. Since getting regular game time his performances for the USMNT have been markedly better.
Ha ha - where did you find that picture for your avatar? I've got to have it! Edit: Never mind, I see it.
"at the moment"... hmmm either way, F you, MLS. Have fun laying the ball off to Alan F'ing Gordon, Landon.
The best part of Landon's finish for those that missed it - was that it happened almost in slow motion - the ball deflected to the far post and when we realized LD was waiting for it there, there was time to stop and hold your breath because we knew that it was a moment to exorcise some demons from last week. Then, when he crushed it far post there was a second of thinking - crap did he hit it wide? -- the exact opposite of the feeling last week when we were sure he had tapped it in, only to be horrified to realize it was in the side net.
MLS owns Landon't contract and they want to be paid well for it. I would also like to see Landon make a permanent move, but can you blame MLS for wanting good compensation? They have investors, etc. If I like your house, can I have it for $50?
Yeah, you couldn't even tell he was there because he came from out of the picture. Absolute laser and I think for .000001 second I thought he missed it. Then when I saw him turn around in a Cantona-esque fashion, all I could do was smile. It was very cool to see Howard unleash his physical tourettes when Donovan scored, even though it put them up by 3 goals.
Don't even bother Bruce. You are arguing against the theory and thinking that MLS exists for the pleasure and at the whim of larger leagues. You simply aren't going to change anyone's mind, sadly.
That, and Arena and the Galaxy would be completely f*cked without him. They go from title contenders, to fighting for a playoff spot.
Well, if not Everton, someone is going to pay some good coin to get him this summer. I think that's all but certain now.
Perhaps this shows the difference between finishing in England and America? Sitters there are great shots here.
It was a sitter because Landon had all the time in the world to line up the shot. No one was on him, all he needed to do was sit on it to strike it perfectly. If he is anxious, he shanks it. But if he sits on it, waits for it to get to the right spot, he cremates it on frame. I'm not going to say that it is an easy goal. But it's one that should be hammered on frame. Hammered because it is a tight angle. If he hit it soft, he has less of the goal to shoot at. If he hammers it, the keeper pretty much can't do anything other than occupy the space he had. It's one of those goals where you say that was a clinical finish. It comes from doing it a lot and going straight for the goal. But, again, the hard part is sitting on the ball. In MLS, these chances are often shots shanked over the top of the goal. And I'm ok with someone taking the shot and it being saved. But it *must* be hard and on frame.
As much fun as this has been - I may be in the minority in thinking that for the National team, it may be better to have LD in MLS where he plays more of a central - literally and figuratively - role. For Everton he defers a lot to other players which we don't want him doing so much in June - and he will likely take a lot less of a beating and wear and tear on his legs. *knock wood*
Missed the game. Hoping there's a replay on FSC. For those of you with a finger on the pulse of this situation, has Landon pretty much lost his starting spot at the end of this loan?
I don't know or care if you wanna call it a sitter or not, but that much time and space that close with only the goalie to beat, you should damn well be expected to score it pretty regulalry if you want to be considered an ofensive threat at this level. That said, he did smack the shit out of it right in the corner, really well taken and impressive finish.
I'm assuming you are just using MLS as a reference because of the audience, but let's be real. Chances like the one Donovan buried today are often shanked every freakin' day all over the world, including in the BPL, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, you name it.
Great play from LD today... and great loan spell... much better than I had expected. Why do I have the feeling that todays goal, celebration, assist, and the fans reaction will be a memory burned in the soccer portion of my brain? Just great stuff. Seems that the Everton fans have really treated LD and Timmy (all along) very well. Class for sure!
