i admit that i would have like to see Adu called up, but it's way too early to jump to any conclusions. Freddy just need to keep focusing on his times at Aris and keep playing well. he got 3 months to impress. work hard, play well, and he'll definitely make the WC roster comes June 1st.
What smokarz said. If Freddy keeps doing what he has been doing (making plays on both offense & defense, and scoring goals, for Aris), then Bradley won't be able to ignore him.
Bob Bradley has never ignored Freddy Adu. If anything he's been very generous in calling Adu repeatedly into camps when he wasn't playing anywhere for a year.
I agree w/ this, that's why it's pretty weird that when he IS playing, & playing pretty well I might add(before that one off game), he doesn't get called up?
I agree. I also have a hard time believing that he is not a better choice than Bedoya (hasn't played since camp cupcake) and Beasley (has played two games in 5 months). What does Freddy have to do to get a chance on the field with the first team under Bradley? I would also add that I was at the game last night in Tampa, and Findley was terrible. Freddy and EJ are tactical geniuses compared to him. He had no idea where his teammates needed him to be but he sure was fast.
I may be in the minority here but as I said in the USA thread, I'm glad Adu didn't get called into this game. I say let him focus on doing well at Aris, if he does the USMNT thing will resolve itself. The final roster isn't due until June 1st I believe so there is 3 full months before this comes to a head.
Bedoya plays a different position (or swings between different positions) and seems to be a type more compatible with the US general style.
but i think he only has 8 more league games and 2 to 3 more cup games. i think the greek league closes out in mid april. Freddy's magic number is four more goals. If he has six total by the end of the season, Bob would look awfully foolish leaving him off the roster.
16 games left for Aris if everything goes well. 7 for league 3 semi finals and final for Greek Cup 6 Playoff against the top teams Cant imagine what will happen here if he scores at Cup final. 24 April is Cup final and next 2 weeks are playoffs. Then Freddy can prepare with USA NT
I don't think that is just Bob -- look at every stop Adu has had. Coaches have trouble fitting him in to their system. I'm not placing 100% of the blame on the coaches, because there is always the "Freddy need to play more D" mantra that may be true for what they are trying to do.
To be fair Nowak, Ellinger, Camacho, Chalana, and now, seemingly, Cuper have had no trouble fitting him in. Unsurprisingly they are also the ones, Chalana aside, who actually pursued him. Adu certainly has things to work on. He definitly should dedicate himself to defending more, among other things. So he should certainly be held largely responsible for his career arch. But anybody unwilling to admit (not saying you specifically Reignking) that he has, at least to a small degree, been a victim of fate simply isn't considering the facts. I mean, honestly, the moment Gomes went on record saying he never wanted Adu, his season at Monaco immediately became immaterial in discussions of whether his shortcomings are to blame for his lack of time.
Don't worry, I agree with you -- I just hedge my bets because we don't have "proof". Monaco, perhaps, but Belenenses was just head-scratching.
Agreed. I don't think anybody really knows what to make of that. Especially since the only internal report we got was from a disgruntled player suggesting he and the others on loan were clearly the best on the practice field. That's far from a reliable report, but it does add some intrigue.
Folks, if you don't see your recent post on this page it's probably because I just binned a couple replies to the Bradley rant. Oh yeah, I binned the rant as well. That was...interesting.
And Adu communicated that he was excited about that chance, and that the coach had told him he would play. Meanwhile, they are completely dead last, and have scored 10 goals all year. 1-8-11 in 20 matches for 11 points.
Imagine how far out of the picture he'll fall if Findley ever gets close to scoring for the Nats I should say that my thought on the roster vis a vis Freddy are that he knows Freddy will look at least as good as last summer, whereas he's never seen Findley with the Euro contingent and he's probably wondering just how much DMB's form has improved.
I think we're looking at Adu's nat role incorrectly. It's not about who, over 90 minutes, is more solid. It's about who, in 10, can turn a game, because that's the role the US needs filled, not the starting lineup. We need late game guys to lock down a lead, and late game guys to grab a tie, or three points. If Adu continues to play, and continues to play himself back into form, he's simply the best 10 minute, single chance to turn a game option the US has. that said, he's way behind a host of others as a starter, but that shouldn't matter.
I dont think so, there is a problem because there hasnt been 1 guy show up that can play along side jozy starting, so that other forward position we are looking at is still blank. There is no for certain partner unless Davies somehow comes back to full strength and scores some goals before then. We are still looking for a partner for Jozy.
Yup, yup and yup. Freddie will not be displacing Landon on the left as a starter against the Dutch. Plus, Bradley's giving DMB a look as the left mid sub (if Bradley puts DMB in as a left back, Friedel's Accent, you need to put the rant back up). Let Freddie rest his hammy and cement his spot at Aris. Cuper's got him playing real football. Why risk screwing up the first good thing to happen for Freddie in a long time to learn nothing you don't already know.
