fa cup 5th round v Aston Villa, here we come!

    Here's a Palace joke...

Neil Warnock, Arsene Wenger, Alex Ferguson and Rafa Benitez are in a pub. Warnock gets up and gets a round in, Wenger gets the next round, then Ferguson and then Benitez. Warnock then goes up and buys himself a pint and sits down. Wenger, Ferguson and Benitez ask what the hell is going on? To which Warnock replies: "This is the fifth round lads and none of you are in it!"

There's lot's going on at Palace at the moment. Way too much to post on this thread so I thought I would create a guide to the best places on the web to keep up with the Palace saga...

The two main forums for Palace fans are BBS; http://cpfc.org/ and http://www.holmesdale.net/
The BBS is 11 years old, has 46,000 members and over 8 million posts. It claims to be the biggest online community dedicated to a sinle sports club in the world.

Eagle Eye- http://www.facebook.com/#/profile.php?id=100000280698032&ref=ts In my very biased view the best football fanzine ever made still lives on in the form of Tony's facebook page. The page promotes a positive attitude towards supporting Palace with info on ticket offers and supporter views & campaigns. It also contains a couple of good video clips.
Other facebook pages worth checking out is Save Crystal Palace http://www.facebook.com/#!/group.php?gid=302607696277&ref=ts
the Dougie Freedman appreciation page; http://www.facebook.com/#/pages/Dougie-Freedman/79409211065?ref=ts and of course my own Eagleshire page; http://www.facebook.com/#/pages/EagleShire/192027970627?ref=ts

Palace Echo; http://www.palace-echo.net/ is a useful starting point for any searches for the Eagles on the web. Originally a fanzine that started life as the offspring of Eagle Eye it now exists as the comprehensive portal to Palace on the web.

Palace Echo's old editor and top DJ, Neil The Eagle writes a Palace blog for the South London Press; http://www.southlondon-today.co.uk/tn/blogdetail.cfm?id=814&bid=67 It's well worth a read as the man bleeds red and blue. What e doesn't know about Palace isn't worth knowing.
    Power to the Palace;http://powertothepalace.blogspot.com/
is a new blog written from a supporters perspective.

http://www.youtube.com/user/nicktimo11#p/unicktimo11's is the best Youtube channel that I've found for funny & classic Palace clips. Personal fav's are Top Of The Pops- Palace Special & Dog on the pitch "Who would take a fine dog like that to a ground like this".

http://www.palace-isa.co.uk/ A chance to big up PISA (Palace Independent Supporters Assoc) who are there to help other Palace fans with issues relating to following the club. In the last year they have had to deal with several issues relating to stewarding at football matches and are behind the meeting between the club, police and supporters. Also check out the Trust website; http://www.cpstrust.org.uk/

Ron Noades Mum (Crystal Palace Fans Forum)- This is a forum set up by a group of BBS regulars , unlike the BBS it has very few rules, the main one being friendly banter and no bullying. With forum titles as “GUM Clinic”, the home of drunken student banter & “Sexers view from the grandstand”, One idiots view of sport it's a website with the same kind of chat that you would find down your local if it were populated with a bunch of Palace fans. Very funny, very rude, not one for your gran. http://ronnoadesmum.com/

Five Year Plan http://fypfanzine.wordpress.com The best current Palace 'zine. Always kept up to date it also has an entertaining podcast which have included interviews with John Salako & Kevin Day.

Finally those boisterous boys from B Block http://hf05.net/ The Holmesdale Fanatics which I almost left out as this site has not been updated for a few months and I don't know about the forum as I'm not a member. If you have not checked it out it is worth viewing the photos of their banners and displays.

Thank you for giving us the keys to palace world! The supporters are more important than ever right now. Fantastic win over Wolves last week - sad to see such a low gate however!

Confident for tomorrow night guys? You'd be right behind us if it wasn't for the 10-point penalty so I'm expecting another close game and will be happy enough with a point given your recent form.

Also, very much liked the 5th round joke :D

Have to agree tht the Wolves attendance was poor, (as they have been for many clubs in the cup this season). The supporters' at the game though really got behind the team which made it feel like twice the number were there last tuesday. Hoping for a sell-out v Villa with the fans planning a spectacular display from the Holmesdale.

    Jack Bastard,

A confident Palace fan is a bit of an oxymoron, let's just say we're nervously positive. Your manager has made Warnock's pre-match team talk easier with Sousa's claim's that Palace should be relegated for going into administration. Shefki Kuqi should also get an interesting welcome from all his old Selhurst fans as well. How has he settled at the Liberty? Missing his half-arsed lumbering attacks down the middle.

One goal defeat to Swansea by an old Palace striker Kuqi's goal , cementing his popularity with the Palace faithful.

On the same day an advert was placed in the Financial Times for the sale of the club by the administrators. http://www.businessesforsale.com/ft/a945347.aspx

The administrators claim that they have had over 20 parties show an interest in buying the club which sounds encouraging. One of the lastest rumours is a report of Richard Brenson taking an interest in Palace's finances. Just in case he's in two minds the supporters have created their own advert. Anyone interested?

Following the Palace ad in the FT & the continuing financial problems at Portsmouth, West Ham et al, here is a well written article on how the Premiership is ruining English club football.

    http://blogs.thisismoney.co.uk/2010/02/how-premier-league-greed-is-ruining-football.html

    "
This is strangling the game. Our clubs are on the road to ruin, despite the supposed riches of our top flight.
The Premier League all but ignores the lower leagues, despite relegation and promotion bringing more excitement to the league than any title winning campaign has in the past five years".

Very pleased with our win on Tuesday, we were the better team in the first half but had to really dig in when you put us under pressure after the break. A draw might have been fair but we've been superb defensively this season so wasn't surprised to see us keep you out as well.

All the best for the rest of the season, hope you stay up, and you should do given that you'd be sixth (or seventh?) without the points deduction.

As a pre-curser to the cup game v Villa thought I would share this article about the 50 best FA Cup games of all time. What's No.1? our trip to Villa Park. Will never forget that sunny day in 1990 hugging strangers, seeing old men cry, lost voice, body drained by the events of the day but celebrating 'til the small hour's....

Looks like an interesting week being a Palace fan. Game against Villa followed by Warnock walking out on the club taking key players with him. Coppell/Southgate/Issot or another to take his place. Also heard rumours of new owners in two weeks which make all the other rumours all the more ridiculous. Hope it gets sorted soon as it has clearly unsettled the team.

Having worked with him, I personally feel Gary Issott will be a fine manager in the future but may well be a big jump for him right now. Great guy with a big future, but for now, Sir Steve is the way to go.

Agree. Gary Issott is just one several names being banded about at the moment. With so many rumours and counter-rumours going around leaving us fans in a diz of speculation as we wish and hope about a future for our club.

If Warnock does go in the next 24 hours, Coppell will certainly be my choice as manager as it would give the whole club a boost for the fight against relegation over the next couple of months. In my view Sir Steve would be a short term appointment rather then someone to build a team and future around.

There has been at least 34 interested parties in buying Palace which include 3 US, (one of which is KC Chiefs owner Clark Hunt) and an unusual bid from some Australian's who wish to us Palace as a centre for Aussie soccer in Europe. The administrator, Brenda Guilfoyle, is hoping to announce the new owners by early April. let's hope it's not April Fools Day when he announces the news as i suspect no one would believe him.

Crap knowledge of MLS Soccer teams and their owners which I'm guessing is unforgivable on this site. Should be FC Dallas & Columbas Crew.

I promise to check my facts more carefully then a quick Google search in future.
