71 of the 80 Nations slated to be at the Olympics will have a competitor in the Alpine events. The big question for this event would be Lindsey Vonn, who is favorite but has been resting due to injury concerns. The first even is on Saturday with the Men's Downhill.
Men's Downhill Gold: Didier Defago (Switzerland) Silver: Aksel Lund Svindal (Norway) Bronze: Bode Miller (United States)
This was the shortest coverage I have ever seen US TV give to the Mens Olympic Downhill. We got to watch only about 5 racers out of the entire field of the trademark event of the winter games. Thank goodness I watch World Cup ski racing throughout the year, I get to watch plenty of downhill... Anyway, Bode has changed...he has a very different perspective on racing/life. Kinda weird to see, actually.
As I suggested to someone else on another thread, try the live feeds at TSN.ca. The networks here are shown the skiing from start to finish. If you want to see more medals from him, don't ask him to change now.
I agree. NBC really effed over American audiences. That was about 15 minutes of coverage and of that only 7 minutes of actual skiing. Just think how much coverage there would have been if an American didn't medal.
Women's downhill Gold: Lindsey Vonn (USA) Silver: Julia Mancuso (USA) Bronze: Elizabeth Goergl (Austria)
Does anyone know where I can see highlights of the women's downhill? I don't want the whole thing. Just highlights. NBC website doesn't seem to have them up.
She is a real good looking girl, but her reaction and comments to winning were so heartwarming. She spoke about her hard work, the sacrifices, overcoming injury, the dream she had since she met Picabo Street at age 9 and all the while tears streaming down her face. How could you not be impressed with her. A wonderful story and a wonderful person.
the Sweed that crashed, her entire body weight was behind her skis when she hit that jump - just launched her like a rocket. looked more like ski jumping than downhill. then there was that other chick who did the face plant. gnarly stuff.
Vonn crashed Women's Super-Combined Gold: Maria Riesch (Germany) Silver: Julia Mancuso (USA) Bronze: Anja Parson (Sweden)
okay, Julia Mancuso's site just crashed. man, she is fine. and has a line of intimate apparel too! it's one thing to be hot, but to be hot, and athletic - that's the killer combo.
Men's Super G Gold: Aksel Lund Svindal (Norway) Silver: Bode Miller (USA) Bronze: Andrew Weibrecht (USA)
Great result in the Ladies' Super G. Always fantastic to see someone win a gold medal after skiing the race of their lives.
