Did she say that? I don't think that's what she intended, only that Donovan outplayed Cole in this match.

That wasn't what I was trying to do at all.

I was talking simply about this one game Landon outplayed Ashley Cole in their respective roles. For this one game.

Talk about mindless - it gets pretty damn sickening to always have to read in Donovan threads how despite what he does on the field, it's always downplayed by someone and there's always a reason why LD looked good other than that LD is a good player.

I'm not underhandedly slamming a respected poster (if you think my post was "slamming" anyone, you've got a much different definition of slamming that I do) - he has a track record of "downplaying," shall we say, LD's play on the field in the past and so I wasn't surprised at what I felt were his attempts to do so again. (wsmaughm has since enlightened me on what Cris9 was attempting to do with his posts)

Frankly, I don't get how it became me against him. I certainly didn't intend it that way at all. I simply voiced my opinion that LD outplayed Cole in that game. Never once said or implied that LD was a better player, that he was world class or that he made Cole his b*tch. All I did was say - as others have said - that Landon outplayed Cole on the day.

*And I said "move on" simply because after I had posted a few replies, I saw that others had said let's move on and were talking about other things. So I had the option of deleting my posts or editing. I chose the latter.

**Second edit: Yes, wsmaughm has read my posts correctly.

***Third edit: So now, is it permissible to move on?

Ok, to put this issue to rest, because I am having a tough time concentrating at work at the moment and have another 10 minutes before a conference call...

My issue is not with the fact that Donovan had a great game. He did. he had a much better game than A. Cole. As a matter of fact, he had a better game than Lampard and Ballack. Heck, he had a much better game than all of Chelsea.

He also managed to handle A. Cole very well by keeping him quiet. Let me rephrase this; he did a better job at handling A. Cole than A. Cole did at handling Donovan. Did he outplay him? OK, but don’t try to prove this with the stats of the role of an attacking player with a defender as it was done by bringing up the assist off of a freakin’ corner and a penner earned after Carvalho’s tackle. This, I also had an issue with.

So when I say, let's keep things real or in perspective, I mean let's stay away from using terms like, “Donovan screwed A Cole to the ground" because that is an exaggeration of the truth.

There is no need to lose credibility as posters by making remarks that can be laughed upon as they redefine the term "spazzo". Landon's action on the pitch are there for all to see and judge without having to add "!!!!" or connotations that make the true story on the pitch seem like nothing more than a tall-tale shared by a bunch of fans in a bar.

Donovan is what he is, "Landycakes" or "The Don", he is having a great time at Everton, and I think people recognize that. There is little doubt in anyone’s mind now that he can succeed among the best. It is obvious that Germany is now behind him.

Those that get it, thanks...those that don't; well then, there is nothing to see here - let's move on.

Exhibit A and B for Big Soccer rule #1, also known as The Taylor Twellman Rule:

Take with a ton of salt any post about a player if the poster lists that players' team under their name. :)

That said, Stillkickin is the more correct here....

You guys do realise that Cole went off injured don't you?

Just questioning as to whether you thought he was doing Cole so much because you couldn't spot him on the field. That's all.

I am usually a lot harder as a critic on the player/clubs that I do follow than the ones I do not. It is important criteria to talk about the things you know a lot about when making an proper argument.

Your Twellman rule also does not apply when discussing YA, as most posters in these threads follow the player, not the club. :)

I'll tell you what - this is the last time I get into 2 other people's arguments, which is exactly what I did.

I'm not the one who said he "screwed Ashley cole into the ground." I'm not the one who originated saying that Landon outplayed Cole and gave him fits. The English writers did that.

I've learned my lesson, though. :)

Hey Stillkickin, you're doing fine. No matter what he does there will always be critics. Enjoy the games!

It wasn't my intention, just adding a bit of humour. This conversation has been done to death and don't realise why everyone is arguing so much, and not looking forward to the match tomorrow against Sporting Lisbon. Donovan had his best performance against Chelsea and did outplay Cole for his part. You guys are never satisfied.

Cool. Didn't read as a joke to me. Anyways, I agree of course. It's usually best to avoid the gameday threads that are active days after the game because 99% of the time it's some lame overanalysis/argument.

Is there going to be a game thread for the Europa league match today against Sporting Lisbon and if so, where?
