Re: 25th Fixture - February 7, 2009 - Chelsea FC vs. Arsenal FC [R] The discussion morphed. It started about who would you want your back in a pub fight. JT was the first, then Fedor was mention. Then AB wanted was clowning Fedor, cause he is not cut & had the tight, tights on. So we were explaining to him about MMA. He interjected w/ boxing & how boxers would fare vs. a MMA fighters. Then we started to discuss the various techniques that MMA specialist uses & how they would destroy a boxer. That is when you appeared. True, Da Spyda is the best PBP MMA fighter on the planet. I think I would have more fun w/ Rampage Jackson in a pub fight. I think Iceman Liddell would be fun to have on your side as well.
Re: 25th Fixture - February 7, 2009 - Chelsea FC vs. Arsenal FC [R] I thought they were buddies & wouldn't fight each other. When did Machida fight Anderson Silva??? There is no record of this fight on sherdog.com??? Again, Anderson Silva is the Best PBP fighter on the Planet!!!
Re: 25th Fixture - February 7, 2009 - Chelsea FC vs. Arsenal FC [R] That fedor guy, (who I'm talking about), according to wikipedia, is 6ft tall and weighs 233lb. To call him simply 'not ripped' is the understatement of the bleedin' century He's not 'not ripped'... he's fat!
Re: 25th Fixture - February 7, 2009 - Chelsea FC vs. Arsenal FC [R] No I didn't. I said... So I was quite clearly talking about THOSE TWO guys and the two boxers I picked out. To do ANY style of fighting you have to be fit and, generally speaking, the fitter the better. Some of the MMA fighters you guys picked out are clearly very fit but some of them clearly aren't. If you're not fit you can't take a hit and it not affect you. That's the same REGARDLESS of what style of fighting you do.
Re: 25th Fixture - February 7, 2009 - Chelsea FC vs. Arsenal FC [R] If you're being serious, I look down on you. Fedor would dominate almost anybody in the world, Anderson Silva included.
Re: 25th Fixture - February 7, 2009 - Chelsea FC vs. Arsenal FC [R] My bad. Second time already this week and both of them with you. I had Evans in mind.
Re: 25th Fixture - February 7, 2009 - Chelsea FC vs. Arsenal FC [R] Andy, again, you are simply wrong on this one. It's really unfair for you to argue this when you don't know who Fedor is and have not watched MMA.
Re: 25th Fixture - February 7, 2009 - Chelsea FC vs. Arsenal FC [R] The interesting thing though about the MMA guys is often the ones who looked less conditioned (e.g. not ripped to shreds) have the most stamina of the lot. I am not a huge MMA fan but that's my observation on it, anyway.
Re: 25th Fixture - February 7, 2009 - Chelsea FC vs. Arsenal FC [R] Agreed, Brock Lesnar is an exception to that though, he has, in soccer terms "world class" stamina, especially for his size. I think he'll develop into a good fighter in the future, but his recent major health issues will set him back a lot and potentially bottleneck the fighter he could end up being
I don't watch MMA, but I can offer some insight as I was in karate for five years. My instructor was a short old man with a bad arm due to him trying to fix his then broken arm (He was a very odd man). He was also a smoker and a heavy drinker. He didn't look it but he was one of the best fighters in our network of schools. I'm much taller than he was but I was always scared to fight him. He was that good. My point is, just because a fighter doesn't look cut doesn't mean that they can't fight. One of the better fighters at my school was a guy who was the most nonathletic person I've ever met. It was his defense and the fact that he would take advantage of his opponent's frustration. It helps being in shape, but you don't need to be freak of nature ripped to fight.
Re: 25th Fixture - February 7, 2009 - Chelsea FC vs. Arsenal FC [R] No worries, cause I wanted to say Pound 4 Pound. I put PBP, whatever that means. Well that means you get the first round, I get the 2nd Remember Sierra Nevada & a shot of Tequila. BTW, I drink Jose, which I know is not fashionable anymore. Everyone else drinks Patron
Re: 25th Fixture - February 7, 2009 - Chelsea FC vs. Arsenal FC [R] I was wondering who the best Play-by-Play fighter in the world was?
Re: 25th Fixture - February 7, 2009 - Chelsea FC vs. Arsenal FC [R] I guess I will be buying u a Pint of Guinness then
Re: 25th Fixture - February 7, 2009 - Chelsea FC vs. Arsenal FC [R] Simply put, NONE of the fella's you MMA fans or Andy has put forward would stand a chance against Eddie if they stood between him and a D'Alessandro's cheesesteak. End of.
Re: 25th Fixture - February 7, 2009 - Chelsea FC vs. Arsenal FC [R] Hmmm, kinda looks like Eddies smaller half brother.
Not that I need to prove my point about being ripped to be a great fighter and all, but let me ask Andy this. Andy, does this guy look like he's in shape? I'm sure your answer is yes. Well, he got his butt whooped by this guy.
And they're fighting in the same weight division, are they? Coz if they're not all you're proving is that in a fighting style where you're allowed to use your strength AND weight the fattest guy will win. Well, who'd a thunk it!!!! Look, no offense fellas but I know at LEAST as much as anyone here about different fighting styles and the simple truth is that FOR ANY GIVEN WEIGHT CATERGORY, (if I really have to spell it out), assuming they're roughly equal in skill, the guy who's fittest wins. That's always been the case and always will be. Certainly the enormous great tubs of lard you guys have shown here wouldn't get within 5 feet of any decent fighter in almost ANY style.
Clearly, it's possible to simply have more knowledge and experience than the other guy but to argue that you're not better off if you're fitter in karate, (which I did too for a while under Brian Waites who, at the time, was the highest dan in the UK), is nonsense. TBH, people on here are simply confirming their ignorance.
Youre not reallly equating fitness, stamina and endurance with muslce tone are you? That's silly. I can outrun a lot of much more toned guys on my team, I just never lift weights, I run and play Soccer. Emelianenko used to weight train extensively, but in 1997 he almost completely substituted his weight exercises with sport-specific training in grappling, boxing, and kickboxing. His strength training consists of daily pull-ups, dips, and crunches.[21] Emelianenko also runs twice daily for a combined distance of 12–15 kilometres (7.5–9.3 mi),[22] and is a proponent of high altitude training, travelling to Kislovodsk, Russia with his team once or twice a year to train in high altitude
I said you don't need to be freak of nature ripped to do well in a fight. I didn't say you're not better off if you're in shape.
