Frisk was already sent oversees...she wasn't part of the draft.

I think it was the 19 posted earlier and a surprise visit from Ikidi.

NOTE: Mary Casey, GK, is now a free agent; Midfielder Julie Rydahl Bukh’s WPS rights have been released.

    There's your answer.

I like the Stephanie Cox acquisition. I was concerned about our defense after losing a lot of depth in that position (Mitts, Weber, Goffi), and she should help to fill that gap quite nicely.

Boxx and Miyama for St. Louis? They're going to be tough to beat this year.

Cox is excellent. She won me over. She was clearly better than Mitts last year. She isn't one of those defenders who is also an offensive threat but as a pure defender she's one of the best in the league, can actually go out there and challenge a playmaker and snuff out an attack. Not saying she's perfect but over the course of several games you'll see the difference between her and all but a few outside defenders in the league. She should still be on Pia's radar for the national team.

I don't think we did horrible....Cox is a very good player and will definitely help us.

But personally I'd have taken Bock or even Washington over Cox...

And I'd have taken a long look at Miyama. Obviously we don't know the specifics of contracts, salaries/cap etc but as much as I like Latham I'd have cut her in a second for Miyama....

And I'd have certainly taken DiMartino over a player that probably won't play at all in 2010.

A question for Andy, do we need to keep Enyeart on the 22 man roster the entire season? Or is there an IR spot where we can place her and hold her rights?

But Boston really needed a left back (and how) and neither Bock or Washington play left back. Cox fills a big need. Bock does not. Washington does not. Sure, I'd cut Weimer (or several other forward/mids that will be at Boston's camp) for Washington in a second but I think your biggest hole was left back (once LeBlanc was chosen by Philly). I joked about Lilly moving to left back. But really, who was going to play there?

And the salary implications for chosing Miyama or DiMartino over Enyeart are likely significant. You've got some high earners on your roster already. She's a gamble and I think if Dallstream had been on the board, Tony & Andy would have picked her instead. But I can see waiting on Enyeart to get healthy. She really is good. The Freedom were able to stash Huffman on an IR equivalent last season (and Enyeart is better than Huffman) and still carry 18 +4. I think you'll be able to do the same.

As far as left back goes I think Cox is better than Bock....right now

But IMO Bock is a better soccer player than Cox. She certainly gives you as much and IMO more offensive attack than Cox...Much more versatile, I believe she could play left back and develop very well...In fact she could cover at just about every field position on the pitch...She's an athlete.

And as I said about the salary info...We don't know the specifics. Maybe Tina has a large guarantee, IDK. If we knew for sure what the salaries/cap and contract specs were it'd make it much easier to speculate...I'm sure Miyama is making some decent coin but IMO she's the kind of player you'd definitely look to get creative with your salary cap number to snag...maybe they did, IDK!

I couldn't remember if Huffman was IR'ed or not...For some reason I thought Washington had to keep her on the 18 man roster...If not, I like the pick a little bit more...

I just really want this season to start already...

Don't blame you for wanting Nikki Washington on the team - it's safe to say that Charlie Naimo was thrilled to get her with the #5 pick. And you can use another potential impact player in the midfield especially with Kelly being a little injury-prone at this stage of her career. I think that was a tough call - Cox or Washington. Unfortunately for Boston, I think you had (have) a lot of needs, a lot of question marks, coming out of last season. Cox is the safe choice here - she's proven at this level.

Miyama? Absolutely wonderful player to have on your team. I assume it had to do with your international situation and the contract. (I agree with you about Latham. I like her but I would also give her up for Miyama). Yeah, I think you can make a case for Miyama here but it might've meant dumping an international player.

Bock? Love Bock but no, if you need an outside back, I think you take Cox. I think you can only take the theory so far that you convert your next-most talented mid or attacker and put them on the backline. Watch Cox game to game and compare her to these converted defenders - she'll come out and take on an attacker and stuff them, not simply avoid getting beat. I'm not saying every time. With the level of talent in the league now, a defender's going to beat on occasion. But you'll see the difference between her and some converted mid or forward who's simply trying to not get beat.

DiMartino over Enyeart? tough call. Yeah, I think you can make a case for that. Again, unfortunately, Boston has a lot of needs. You are not deep at midfield and DiMartino, while she didn't shine for Gold Pride, still, as a rookie, was the one they had to have out there to make the best of it. Enyeart has terrific promise but I think you can make a case, given your midfield, that DiMartino was the safer bet here. I guess Andy thinks Tina doesn't bring much more than what you have in Tomecka and Mary Frances Monroe - not enough of a difference maker. If that was the thinking, I think Boston made a mistake. While Tina may never become a star or a noticeable impact player, I think she has the skills and workrate to really add depth to a team.

Loved Enyeart at Portland though and I was really excited about getting her. Potentially an impact player so it could work out really well for you but we're talking about next year most likely.

Bock is a very solid player and considering you need help in midfield, she might've helped you there. For a rookie she played with such authority, pretty much everywhere they played her. Can't blame you for wanting Bock on your team, too. Look, never mind Marta, Charlie Naimo assembled a really promising, tantalizing core of players on the Sol. Even with the #4 pick, it's like being a kid in a candy store...

The Bock / Cox debate is interesting. I like them both and think either would have been a good choice. However, I think many underestimate how difficult it is to find good outside backs, especially those who are comfortable on the left. While Bock might be more athletic in some ways, Cox is technically superior (at least right now). You could tell that pretty plainly in those Sol matches I watched (first touch, ball control, passing). The scarcity of left backs has been an issue even at the WNT level for a long time. Chalupny is fantastic, she's a great combo of athleticism, stamina, attacking ability, and technique, but there are some who might like to move her into the midfield so those qualities could be exploited even further. That's proven difficult because no left back has emerged as to lay a definitive claim (not even Cox). The drop off after Chalupny is pretty big. A while back, folk had hopes for Slaton (she could never get back from injuries). Before that, we had Chastain who had been converted from an attacker (which you could tell from her game). The WNT has had a string of left backs who were probably better elsewhere deployed (Roberts, Whitehill, Pearce, etc.). If a team can get a left back who they can rely on, it's a big deal. We saw how even a player of Mitts' caliber seemed out of sorts on the left. I just don't think it is as easy as you think to convert players into effective left backs!

So, while I recognize the limits of Cox's game, to get a quality left back who is a natural defender and who can cross . . . well, that's a pretty good deal. The GM of Philadelphia stated that they if they had not taken LeBlanc, they would have taken Cox.

In a way, Bock suffers from her versatility--I wonder if she has yet found her best position?
