A couple of new segments up from me and Charles Boehm - i.e. beat writer for DC United from MLSNet.com

    http://www.wjfk.com/pages/1495684.php

To update the station, the flip will happen next Monday at 6 AM.

You aren't the first to say that, but I disagree.

Trust me, from me it's one of those bittersweet feelings. I'm losing a bunch of friends, particularly the folks associated with Mike O'Meara show. I've also gotten to know Big O & Dukes (I knew Dukes when he was an intern w/ Junkies) and thought they had a great show. There are also several people in the radio station not involved with the shows that will be leaving, and those hurt. Sure, we'll stay in touch, but more than a few tears will be shed this Friday.

That being said, I can't be a hypocrite. I've been saying WJFK should become a sports station for about 5 years. The simple fact is that the competition is pathetic in this area. Financially "guy talk" is on the decline. Sports is considered "stable" in the radio industry. Revenues will not be huge, but profit is possible with judicious management -i.e. things like the Caps playoffs last year were very good to the station! There's also just some physical changes that have been necessary for the CBS cluster in the DC area - WJFK is getting office remodel (the rug was there when I got there 10 years ago!), a camera system for the studios, etc.

So, no you don't have to like it. I would hope you listen. I certainly hope you use the opportunity to push DC United and the sport whenever possible.

big o and dukes was the worst show ever.

that being said, we should take wagers on how long lavar and chad last together as a show.

lavar has never come across well on comcast. i guess its possible that he will be better on the radio, but i doubt it.

the mike o'meara show has been dying a slow death since don (mike) left.

The flip is a horrible idea.

Big O and Dukes were kind of growing on me, and even though it was a hollow, hollow version of the Don & Mike show, The Mike O' Meara show was a nice distraction when I got tired of NPR.

Guess I'll be taking 106.7 off my presets now, since I'm rarely driving when the Junkies are on and when I do I'm listening to the news on NPR anyway.

Mike Wise is boring as hell and LaVar and Dukes is going to be a trainwreck.

When Stern left so did all the advertising money. Every station he was on has changed format because they were tanking. Once you listen to Sirius you can't listen to anything else.

    Howard Stern? Meh.

Satellite radio? I get the privilege of paying for stations with commercials?

No thank you. I'll listen to FM - or better yet, my CDs or iPod.

Me too. Just what this area needs, another bunch of guys talking incessantly about an awful baseball team, an awful pointyball team, a mediocre basketball team and a very good hockey club. And all the time never talking about DCU or even acknowledging that women also play professionally. A desparate move by a medium that is slowly tanking through on-line streaming audio, ipods and the like. If Mike Wise and LaVar Arrington are your saviors, you need new scripture. Mike Wise was funny about a decade ago when he tried to rip off Kornheiser's column schtick. Funny in a derivative way, now he is just boring.

We'll see. I will give it a chance, but listening to people blather on about the Redskins isn't exactly my thing. At the same time, WJFK is just about the only thing on the radio that I actually enjoyed listening to. (Elliot is OK in small doses, but that's about it.) I'm sorry to see it go.

I've read of a lot of people who are really happy that Mike O'Meara got the ax (Karma's a bitch eh?) because they are saying that he was a realy douche bag, he did not pay the employees on his restaurant their last wages (totalling 5K some say), and that he was really mean to other people. I have mixed feelings about this flip. I was all over WJFK during the Howard years, but then the Junkies kind of grew on me although they can be really annoying, especially EB who is total ignorant dick, Lurch who is an imbecil and JP who sounds like a real douch back too; the only one kind of cool is Cakes, eventhough he's a total tool too.
Mike O'Meara sounded kind of douche baggy to me as well, and Robb(aye) is a really big annoying homo.
I don't mind another sports radio.

I haven't listened to 106.7 in years. Unless Dyson gets his own show, I do not plan to start anytime soon.

No, I've got to defend the Junks and O'Meara and his crew. I'm not just saying this to be politically correct for the station, I'll be the first person to tell you Don Geronimo was the biggest a------ to work with!

I don't know anything about his restaurant, so I can't really comment on that part.

We, the people in programming, just got the "congrats" from the way-higher-ups for good stuff.

In part, " . . . .Through the hard work and dedication of you all, we were able to grow substantially in 2009, ending the year with the 4th biggest ratings increase for the YEAR out of all CBS Radio stations. . . . "

The podcast itself ended 2009 with an average of just over 3100 "unique hits" for each posting. That's great, and I appreciate everyone that tuned in. But, just to give some perspective, for those who follow the station, MMA Nation by Luke Thomas averages over 10K unique hits, and BDK's Movie Review show averages over 20K. Obviously there's still a lot of room for improvement.

The flip? I thought that was the gesture you make towards Abby Okulaja.
