What do you think the MLS will be like in 2020. Stadiums, players, fans, teams, money, and coverage ESPN.
Damn it.. When is SALSB#1 going to create SALSB#2 and get pro/rel started?? It's been 35 years already, surely soccer is established enough by now to get pro/rel going! Gawd. SALSB#1 is so freaking bush league! Oh, side note, why the hell are we talking about this on such an archaic system? Shouldn't we all be plugged into the virtual reality network?
Why are you guys being so mean to the n00b? This is why MLS has no fans. Edit: WOW That was weird. Those homemade donuts that the wife fried up filled me with such happiness and joy. Get bent n00b
24 teams, all in their own stadiums. full grown up sized rosters. salary 7-10mill. general acceptance as a major league, but still not approaching the hights of NFL or MLB.
i think the MLB is on a major decline not sure if it will still be up with the NFL so i could see MLS move up to 2nd or 3rd. MLS will be a very strong 1st Division
MLB isn't anywhere near on a major decline - in fact, quite the opposite. Adjusted for the current economic climate, MLB is having as strong a decade as they ever had, if not stronger. I would, however, be interested to see how the NFL evolves over the next 10 years. It no longer is able to expand, so unless they seriously start looking at Europe, there isn't much opportunity there.
August thru May schedule. All team attendance approximately half NFL attendance i.e. 30-35K per game. MLS rebrand to MLS Premier, MLS League 1 and MLS Leage 2 after NASL/USL and D3 Soccer leagues combine under one North American Soccer roof.
I really beg to differ. you hear it all the time that MLB is on a decline. Hardly a week goes by that ESPN radio doesn't mention this. Most of this is due to the lengths of the game and the pace of the game.
MLB could decline for the next 10 years and MLS make great strides in those same 10, and it's still not going to come close.
MLS in 2020 will still be a middle tier league in the world scope of the game, but will have gained greater prominence in North America at the expense of the NHL. I would not be surprised to see NHL teams move back up north to Canada to be replaced in mid-major or major markets by MLS (Phoenix and Miami come to mind). Not only would this move help MLS, but it was a crime in the first place for cities like Winnipeg and Quebec to lose teams. Doubt we will have covered much ground on the likes of La Liga, the EPL, or the Bundesliga for quality, but I see MLS leveraging itself above second tier south american leagues and the scandanvian leagues to become a showcase for young talent. (this is already the case with respect to the Caribbean IMO, and Colombia, Honduras, and Costa Rica seem the current targets) If MLS maintains parity with that growth in talent and resources, we will be a hell of a lot of fun to watch. Though I despise the NBA, the major sports in American culture aren't likely to go anywhere with Football, Baseball, and Basketball still holding the public's attention. However, I do see less ignorance of soccer becoming standard. I dont think this will translate into extra thousands of butts-in-seats come gameday, but it may have an effect on the next generation of sports writers and how casual fans are exposed to soccer in america. Things I hope for that are unlikely to happen? I hope by 2020 MLS teams and MLS fans take the US Open Cup seriously and I hope it gets a title sponsor to help the purse. I hope the CCL has gained legitmate traction and that it brings mutual respect between soccer loving nations in this region. And I hope, once and for all, that even n00bs on BS will refrain from conversations about promotion and relegation in MLS. Like I said, one can hope.
Well if ESPN radio said it, it must be true Seriously though, try looking up some of the facts first. Like that MLB is having record attendances year after year this decade. Or that their revenues are at historical highs. MLB has never been more successful or more popular. And this is despite a major increase in competition over the last half century.
What!! Haven't you heard the end of the world is going to be Dec 21st 2012! Run to the hills folks!!!
i dont know i just feel with the steroids fall and the fact that more and more kids are playing soccer i think is a sign that maybe the younger generation are really that interested in baseball as the older generation.
The steroids fall, while "bad" hasn't been all that damaging. While baseball itself is just starting to cope with the news I think the average fan has known for years that most of the baseball stars were juiced beyond all attempts at plausibility. I mean was anyone shocked that McGwire came out and admitted his steroid use a few weeks ago? No. Is it a good thing that they did roids though, no. But it also is old news for the most part. The amount of kids playing soccer is a good thing for soccer and will hopefully translate into more interest because to date it hasn't really correlated. At the same time baseball isn't going anywhere as long as interest continues to grow in the pro game, which it is still doing.
Miami still won't have a team, and Miami fans will still be declaring the rest of us "jealous" over their imaginary team.
I'd ask Marty McFly but he only went to 2015. Doc Brown may have the answer though. But if I had to hazard a guess, modest gains from today. 20-22 teams, 30-32 match schedule. If we are awarded the 2022 cup I imagine that would be a catalyst for growth from 2020 on.
No. A lot of people do. They just don't whine about it or pretend that soccer is going to overtake MLB
