FC DALLAS WAIVES GOALKEEPER RAY BURSE JR FRISCO, Texas (Monday, Jan. 25, 2010) – FC Dallas today announced the team has waived 25-year old goalkeeper Ray Burse Jr. Burse departs FC Dallas following four seasons with the club after being selected in the 3rd Round of the 2006 MLS SuperDraft. The Ohio State grad made his professional debut on July 24, 2007, in a 1-1 draw with Guadalajara (Mexico) during the SuperLiga tournament. He made his Major League Soccer debut on August 4, earning his first career shutout in a 1-0 win at Colorado. While with Dallas, Burse made 25 regular season appearances and recorded three shutouts posting a 7-12-6 record in goal.
I hope I'm wrong. I liked him, thought he looked good in games etc. I guess you cant keep three keepers on staff anymore.
According to Crewture's website, he's training with Columbus. I can't imagine FCD would let him do that if he were still attached to the team.
Its on the mlsnet website so good luck to you Ray. Maybe he wanted to go home and a brother/sister deal seems fair.

I have always believed that Burse was not in the long term plans of the club. Sala is the starter, and Lambo is the prodigy. In addition, there is always the pool to draw from. That being posted, I do not like this move. Granted, there are many good 'keepers in the MLS. Is there not another team that would not like an experienced, athletic 'keeper as a back up and could push a starter? Could they not find one dime of allocation money? I find it hard to believe there is was no interest in Burse at all. Lambo, if memory serves, does not take up a roster spot. Note that there are two teams coming in next year, and a 'keeper must be exposed. Without Burse, either Sala or Lambo must be left unprotected. Burse was going. To let him go this year is a mistake. -SD
I keep hearing this, but I'm not convinced. The pool may be bigger, but the talent doesn't seem to be getting better. A look around the league shows a lot of the same names from almost a decade ago (Hartman, Thornton, Reis, Busch, Cannon, Onstad, Rimando, etc.). Sure, some of those names are in the twilight of their careers, but who among the backups of MLS seem even close to breaking through?
Yelldell wants to get on the USMNT radar. Perhaps he thinks playing in MLS would help achieve that goal. Anyway just wild, random speculation on my part.
Plays in the 2.BL @ TUS Koblenz. He has been injured, but is supposedly nearing a return to full fitness.
I see no reason to not like this move for Burse though, he is past the stage of his career where he can continue to sit for long stretches without any game action. The one thing we all knew was that he was a project who needed more games to develop a few aspects of his game, and without the reserves, he wasn't getting any better. Add in that he looked shaky at points when he played at the beginning of the year and didn't earn SH trust, well I thought the writing was on the wall. I am however surprised that they are looking to bring in another goalie with such roster number crunch going on. 3 goalies seems unnecessary when one is roster protected, and desperately needs game action. I know it has been mentioned he would get loaned out to USL, but it was rumored last year too with no end result. Best of luck to Ray to catch on with a club where he can actually play and figure out angles a bit more and get more chances to develop distribution skills. He has the athletic gift to make saves I have seen no other keeper come close to, if he can become better rounded, he could be a great MLS keeper for years.
I don't know if I liked. But at least the good point out of this is that Lambo will see some playing time this year. You know, I think it was a hard decision, but I think Schellas and the staff tought a lot before doing it. I wish the best for Ray.
I think he is going to start in this league. He deserves playing time. I don't know how much longer we can get mileage out of Dario, but Dario is a rare breed, maybe he can keep going into his 40's and do well. Some have done that. I wish you all the best, Ray. Many of us think you are the real deal. Best of luck.
Ray will be employed somewhere in this league, especially with 3 new teams in the next two years and the Impact on the horizon, as well. Guys like Thornton, Cannon, Hartmann, Onstad, Keller are all coming to the end of their careers. I have no doubt that Ray will get his chance, sooner rather than later. He deserves it.
Don't wish to sound like an ungrateful fan, but Ray had his chance here and failed to nail it down. He lacked experience and will still someday be a quality keeper with his cat like reflexes. However, all of the staff really believes in Lambo as the future of this club in the net. It might not be so much a knock on Ray as much as a vote of confidence in Lambo, who if he continues to progress, is reportedly going to be a future star. This move is good for all 3 guys, and is a sign that the staff believes that Lambo is almost there.
How does one become the league "floater"? Is that an option rather than USL if he can't catch on somewhere else in the MLS? Does the floater get league minimum? We housed the floater last season didn't we, who gets it this season? Hmmm.
Oh, and I know it's a fairly clever way to ameliorate the tiny roster issue, but the mere existence of pool keepers is just odd and, pardon the cliche, a bit "mickey mouse." It seems like something a O-30 rec league would do. In fact, the idea of someone without even nominal loyalty to any one team makes me think of the "All-time QB" you'd have when you played football in the front yard with an odd number of kids. Never trusted those bastards, especially when they threw untimely interceptions to their friends.
