For those that wanted some progress, how's this whet your appetite? They're breaking ground today (which I suspect is Thursday) on the new 1.2 million dollar training facility at the Airport West site. Visible progress at last!

This is the interim field I posted about a few weeks ago. I am surprised that Almond didn't also mention the city and Quakes desire to use Measure P Bond money to build an accompanying soccer complex at the site.

Probably because the Measure P thing is only that, a desire. The training complex will shortly be a reality. The first hopefully of many.

A new practice field is nice. It is needed and will be useful even if the Quakes have to stay in Buck Shaw another 3 years. I admit that it signals commitment to the AW site.

But, this article doesn't count as an announcement on the status of the STADIUM. We remain in the dark on the Epicenter itself.

True. But that's the price to be paid for a private stadium. They're under no obligation to announce anything. Which isn't all bad since it doesn't give any potential opposition any time to do squat.

"The $1.2 million grass field also will give the team a permanent home"

I would have rolled out some sod for an even $1 million. I'd even mow it once a week.

Honestly I think most of us would have done that for them ;). Hell in this economy it's a nice solid job too.

I know, but, if you read any of the city documents on this training field they also had mentioned the goal of a bigger complex. My guess is that the city would like to see shovels in the ground for the stadium before committing to the soccer complex.

$1.2 million doesn't seem like all that much, depending of course on what is built. A real practice facility is going to amount to more than some sod rolled out. Irrigation and drainage will be installed for the playing surface I'm sure. I would also assume they will be building locker room and training facilities of some sort, although I might expect temporary buildings until the actual stadium complex is built. Plus, access roads, parking lots, security, lighting(?), etc.....I think $1.2 million can get spent fairly quickly.

GO San José! Go San José! Goooooooooo!!!

Nah we can save the BS with gold shovels for the stadium's ground breaking. However this one will be cool to see if just because it's the first ground breaking of any kind on the overall Airport West property Wolff is buying.

Sorry, until I walk into the new stadium and sit down in my seat to watch the first game, I won't get to excited about anything related to the stadium. Sadly, I have gone through too much crap to get my hopes up...

This is good news. It is pretty close to my office and I probably can sneak out if they have any scrimmage and report something back. Well, I guess this preseason I won't be able to do it yet since the field won't be available till May.

Um, anything else? Locker rooms? Weight room? Pool? Video room? Toilets at least?! In the future, we'll want to have a cafeteria there too, you know, stocked with good, healthy food, so our guys don't eat at In-N-Out.

This is a start. It's a good start and shows some commitment. I'm just wondering if there are more details that either Elliott or CLS could have gotten for us?

    Go Quakes!! :D
    Let's practice being good!!

You forgot parking lot. Wow. The Earthquakes own parking lot. We have finally made it! I feel so special. I wonder if it will have the right dimensions and be blue, not black. It's got to be the right color.
