i was thinking wouldn't it be cool to have Throwback night where teams wear original mls jerseys or the original NASL jerseys could be fun.
The Earthquakes have done it in the past, and tried to do it last year for the 35 year anniversary of the 1974 founding of the NASL Earthquakes, but, the league threw up a roadblock. The plan was to have both the Quakes and Sounders (who namesake also had a 1974 NASL founding) suit up in throwback jerseys for the game in San Jose. I am not sure if it was a sponsor issue, but, the league reportedley nixed it.
I've got no problem wearing the original 1996 kits, but I'm betting that's not what you were thinking about.
it was actually part of what i was thinking. there are 30 games a season per team set 4 games aside for throw back nights. for San Jose and Seattle have them in there old NASL Jerseys when they play. when the Original 9 teams play each other they wear there 96 jersey. and maybe a week were it is NASL week wear original NASL cities wear the NASL gear. it would be fun.
Wizards wanted to do something like that last season to honor the NASL KC Spurs who won the NASL title 40 years ago this past year but were turned down by someone, can't remember who (league, adidas, someone else).
They wouldn't have to wear the Caribous uniforms; they could wear those of the Denver Dynamos. Check out nasljerseys.com
I don't see why adidas would have had a problem, if it was them; they did both the Quakes and Sounders uniforms several times.
