    Woo Hoo!! Welcome!

You can check out http://www.nofanalone.com to get info on the section. Alternately, most of the groups (Centennial Firm, NCC, Legion 5280) have Facebook and/or MySpace pages. I don't know if the Bulldog group has one yet, but you could go to their kickoff party this Saturday and probably meet a lot of us (I plan on going, though I'm a CFirm member).

Hope to see you at the tailgates as well! If not, see you in the section (I'm the big guy with the painted snare drum)!

    G'Day...Ron :D

For years I had a very good friend, now deceased, who was a dyed in the wool Leyton Orient (LO) fan. When in London, I would attend Arsenal FC matches by myself, with friends or with my wife and LO matches with Archer. The quality of LO was rather poor then as now but my friend reveled in their victories and suffered with their losses. At the time I could not understand loyalty to a team of that ilk with many more famous and far better quality teams in London. Not having grown-up in a soccer neighborhood I may never "get it" as my loyalty is to soccer played well & played beautifully not to the color of the kits.

Nevertheless, early on, I became addicted to Arsenal FC even when most of their matches were characterized as 1 nil to the Arsenal. In those days, well in advance of Arsene Wenger, Arsenal FC was a typically good English club with defenders and forwards. The midfield was merely for admiring the shape & design of footballs as they sailed over their heads from back to front. There were few foreigners in the league where rough & ready English players ruled the day.

I am surprised to read that you find the Rapids boring on TV. With your LO experience you enjoy no room to criticize the Rapids. I would imagine you will find it a quality upgrade on the pitch from LO to MLS & the Rapids.

Although not as cozy or committed as are LO fans you will find the various
Rapids fan clubs fun folks with whom to associate and somewhat knowledgeable about the team and the game. Also, they are reasonably loyal to the team whereas, as mentioned earlier, I am intensely loyal to the game and far less loyal to the Rapids shirts. I guess I still don't "get it".

    Welcome to sunny Denver.

    Enjoy and cheers "mate"!

Archer always refer to them as the Os. Win, lose or draw it was always "Up the Os"!

Welcome to the club. At least you get to follow the Rapids from Colorado. I was a soccer and mls fan in general before a trip to Colorado where I got to tour the stadium and had a private tour by Director of Player Personel, John Murphy (who had just been moved into the job and had nothing better to do then give this Kentucky high school coach a tour). After watching a practice and meeting the players (who were nice enough to line up and sign a ball for my then two year old son who was amazed by them--but then again he was two and was amazed by everything).

Murphy moved along quickly after that and many of the players are gone, but how nice they all were stuck with me. It really seemed like they were an organization who was humble (and perhaps had reason to be--this was the last month of the Clavijo era). Anyway, I knew I had finally (after a couple years of following the league without a rooting interest) found my team.

The Autographed ball sits in a place of honor in my family room.

Oh, and when I asked my son (now 4) if he remembered meeting the soccer team he replied "Yes... you bought me a drink."

(I had bought him a poweraid from a vending machine next to the practice field as it was hot that day and his juice had gotten hot in his sippie. This is what he remembered most! But to be fair, this was the first time he'd had a drink bought for him from a manchine. The picture of him with Jose Burciago Jr AND the poweraid is on display next to my computer monitor at work).

Welcome to the passion and exhilaration. Welcome to the songs of devotion, the knowledge, the heritage, the legends and the heroes. Welcome to the clubs, the fans, the rituals and the tribes. Welcome to our world. Welcome to the Rapids soccer culture.

Funny you should mention that. One of my favorite games that I caught on tv last season was Chivas-Colorado season opener. Colorado, in my opinion, clearly out played chivas but were unable to come away with the victory. Their style was very smooth and enjoyable to watch. However, I caught them again later in the season and could hardly finish the game because of how disjointed they looked. I do believe that was after they had lost Clark though.

Yonikira, I am not a Rapids fan but I am glad to hear that you will be supporting them. You will be joining legions of fans in supporting them and many, many MLS Cups.

It surely sounds like a lot of fun to be a Rapids fan. Is it still possible to become a part of this celebration? Is this delightful experience limit to the Rapids or is all of MLS so joyous and envigorating?

Yeah that season opener was a tour de force for Colorado... and Casey looked like he was set for a HUGE year... and yet they got beat. It wasn't too long into the season before that big game against LA and they looked so good still... then by the end of the year it had all gone pear-shapped. But it was a fun ride I guess. Now if we could just make the playoffs...
