Seattle fans are like Raiders fans, they're nothing more than geeks picking up the latest trend. I wouldn't be surprised if the color commentator at the next sounders manufacturing starts to claim that the south end is a 'danger zone', 'a threat to mls', 'puts the craigslist vs newspaper ads to shame'. It's time for Sounders to get their oil change.

getting mad at another team's fans because the best marketing idea your FO could come up with in 14 years was to have a "Bring your dog to the game day." Small minded MLS talk that this league's fans need to get rid of if they wish to break into the big 4 in this country.
I think they need to cap it at 35-36k and leave it there. It is nice to have demand built up rather than open it to 40-45, start to struggle and have bunches of open seats. I am happy they are selling tickets but they need make sure demand doesn't fall. Unless they are cool with yo-yoing stadium "size" per year. For example 2010 36k, 2011 40k, 2012 34k etc, etc, etc.
I agree. Keep the demand up and then expand again next season, which will be crazy nuts. Opening the Hawk's Nest would add 3,000 seats, but I don't think they will do that since Joe Roth doesn't like the Hawk's Nest. Instead, I could see them opening the center sections of the upper deck.
Season tickets will be capped at 32,000 for the season. As the thread title states, over 31,000 have already been sold and only a few hundred are left. Stadium capacity will be set at 36,000. All this just confirms what we have already thought. The thing I find most interesting is the single game ticket numbers. Last year acording to the article they capped season tix at 22,000 and averaged almost 31,000... Which means there were about 9,000 single game tickets available for every game. According to the new cap numbers there will only be 4,000 single game tickets for each game. That's already less than half of last years, but as a percentage it's even more drastic of a decrease considering the increased capacity. I wonder how the people who love the team but can't afford season tickets will react to this. It would be a shame for them not to be able to come out to a single game just because money and a lack of single game tickets...talk about adding insult to injury All in all though congrats to Seattle, keep it up! Maybe in a few more years you guys can sell out the entire stadium. Now THAT would be something! http://www.soundersfc.com/News/Articles/2010/01-January/Season-Tickets.aspx
That's not technically correct. The 22k cap was for when capacity was at 27.7k, so there were about 5.7k single game/group tickets available for each game. Half way through the season they increased capacity, but all the tickets were sold as half season tickets.
Yea I wasn't sure which cap that number came from that's why I put the "in the article" thing in there. Either way, I wish they could get more single game tix out there. I'm one of those people who are a huge soccer fan and fan of mls but simply can't afford season tickets...especially living out of market metros. Does anyone have any info on contracts with Xbox 360??? Other than the massive logo on the Hawks Nest which I'm sure they are getting paid for...I wouldn't mind seeing them open that section up for single games. I know they aren't the greatest seats but considering that there aren't too many single game tix I'm assuming the demand would be there for them, especially at the lowest prices in the stadium. This would allow those who can only make/afford one a two games to have a better chance of making that happen. Getting those people in could create future season ticket holders, plus they get the money for the ticket and food ect. Anyways, does anyone know how much they are getting for that logo? or when the contract expires or anything like that??
It isn't hard to get single game tickets through the resale market. Obviously there is a bit of a mark-up (I generally sold my $35 tickets for $50 and that was on the low side), but if you don't mind sitting in the corners or the behind the goals you can usually get decent tickets for less than $30.
shit, I'm going to have nightmares tonight!! stay away!!!! no in all seriousness, I'm happy for the sounders but yeah...all that green and all the chanting just freaks me out....its like some freaky cult or something.
Hopefully this year we'll be able to test that theory. The M's are supposed to be pretty competitive this year and i'm pretty confident the Sounders crowds won't miss a beat. Also, The city has a law saying the two teams can't play at the same time or something like that, as any one following the Open Cup last year should remember, so there shouldn't be a problem regardless.
I don't think it is a law, just an agreement. The Sounders and Mariners played at the same time at least once last season. I think it was the Chicago Fire game.
The agreement with X Box is for 5 years, $5 million per. It gets them the shirt and the pitch. Those signs on the Hawk's Nest aren't going anywhere for a long, long time.
Yeah. Anytime Joe Roth says he doesn't like the Hawks nest what he is really saying is "I like money". Its too bad too cause the Hawks Nest packed with fans is a great noise generator. Qwest would be even louder then it is now.
Million dollars a year? I think they will do quite well selling tickets somewhere else. That places is gonna keep covered... You cannot sneeze at a million a year.
$5 Million per year I think is what the other person was saying, not $1 Million per year. So yes, nothing to sneeze at.
I would love to see Qwest filled up with about 60K for an MLS match. That place would be a mad house with all them yelling Sounder fans! I have a feeling that here in LA, our attendance will drop again but hopefully we can still avg around 18k
