With 31 players of our national team pool playing in the MLS how would a lock out impact our WC team?

    Of particular concern:

    Bornstein
    Casey
    Ching
    Clark
    Conrad
    Donavan
    Sacha
    Marshall
    Rogers

Has this caused concern for anyone else?

They could form a barn-storming team. Tour the country playing ... uh ... someone.

Donovan would probably extend his loan, wouldn't you think?

They might not play right away? Clark is in Germany though, might stay if he does well. That'd be a hell of a MLS team though.

Do what the US Women do, and just have a huge, extended camp.

Exactly. Like the men did for pretty much the whole 1994 cycle.

That would be interesting. That happened because there was no league yet right? Forgive me I was 4 yrs. old in 1994.

Is the USSF going to pay for that?

Bradley had indicated earlier in the month, he has a contingency plan for these players if, in fact, the MLS has a lockout.

FWIW, I talked with a player this past weekend who has been in the winter camps in the past. He feels strongly that there will neither be a strike or lockout.

Correct. Though there were a few players in the pool playing in various leagues at the time. Wegerle and Harkes were playing in England, Dooley and Wynalda were in Germany, Stewart was in Holland, and Ramos was in Spain. I might be forgetting somebody. Wegerle, Dooley, and Stewart were dual citizens that grew up foreign but were playing for the US.

That seems to be a common opinion.

    Clark is in Germany now

Donovan will extend with Everton for sure if there is a lockout and may extend regardless

Casey, Ching, Conrad, Rogers, and Sacha are on the bubble right now so it won't do them any favors though I think only 2 of those 5 make it (i'd guess Casey and Rogers if you held a gun to my head)

Which leaves Bornstein and Marshall. I think both are basically on the WC roster at the point but only Bornstein will see much time unless there are injury card concerns. Same with any of the above group (if Casey and/or Ching make the field during the WC and its not because we are up big, we're screwed) Because of this it doesn't scare me too much

Agree except for Marshall, he is, probably, as far from NT as anybody mentioned. And Bornstein can go on a loan to Mexico or Honduras;)
