Josimar Arias did not make the trip to Argentina due to an injury (He must have the worst luck ever when it comes to the NT). Heiner Mora of Brujas F.C. and Jose Miguel Cubero of Herediano were left out of the squad for the trip.

I'm not sure what to expect from this match...i just hope we can give Argentina a good match and come out with a good result. This would be my line-up...

Any comments about our team from tonights game?

I was impressed with our U20. Diego Estrada is a machine as well as Bryan Oviedo, MArco Ureña, Christian Gamboa, Diego Madrigal.

They all have very bright futures, hopefully there were some scouts in the game. All of these players should play abroad.

Even though we lost....i was impressed by how well our young players played and how we never bunkered (we rarely do anyways). The U-20's had excellent games and showed why they finished 4th in the World Cup. I hope they continue staying humble and keep playing at this level because what we saw tonight was promising. We also have 3 more excellent friendlies (Chile, France, Switzerland) and a possible friendly against Spain for them to gain more experience and be prepared for the 2012 Olympics and the 2014 WCQ's.

We were also missing other key U-20 players like Esteban Alvarado, Josue Martinez, David Guzman, Roy Smith, Allen Guevara, Carlos Hernandez, Daniel Varela, Pedro Leal, and Jose Mena (who did not get any minutes last nite) that can help the cause. We should all be happy but at the same time not go overboard since it was only one game...Ronald Gonzalez still has a lot of work to do but at least last nites match was promising.

Costa Rica will not be playing Spain anymore on June 8th....Slovakia is the favorite to replace Spain for a friendly on our Eurotrip.
    http://encuentrodeportivocr.com/ind...ia&catid=62:selecciones-nacionales&Itemid=203

This would be a nice friendly since Slovakia has good players like Hamsik of Napoli, Skrtel of Liverpool, Cech former player of FC Porto, and Stoch teammate of Ruiz in FC Twente who is a very good player. So If this match is confirmed our calendar will be...

March 3: vs Chile in Santiago, Chile
May 26: vs France in Lens, France
June 1: vs Switzerland in Sion, Switzerland
June 5: vs Slovakia in Bratislava

If Herpes comes back we'll most likely see Guima as our coach again....and i remember an interview last year where Herpes said if he had to decide who our coach should be...he would choose JUSTINA CAMPOS!!!.....so no thanks.

Good news! I will wait until Ronald Gonzalez gives out the list of players but he did mention Carlos in an interview so i have faith its true.

Chile calls up 18 players who play abroad for the matches against Costa Rica and North Korea on March 3rd.

Retrospective news: FEDEFUT throws Kenton under the bus for the WC qualifying implosion.

EDIT: A longer version is up now: http://www.nacion.com/ln_ee/2010/febrero/25/deportes2280597.html

FEDEFUT's main argument is that everything went to crap during the Gold Cup, because Kenton 1) decided to use key players rather than a B team to save energy - personal aside: last I checked, Mexico rebuilt the base of its team during the same Gold Cup, and afterwards managed to get 13 points out of 15 to qualify for the World Cup; and the US had arguably an eventful summer as well. But anyways, besides that, 2) Kenton didn't clamp down on a split in the squad between Walter Centeno and co. and...I guess, whoever wasn't in Centeno's crew.

Uh, first of all your link doesn´t work. Second, Kenton was never one to play favorites with Saprissa players the way Medford was (in fact that was one of the biggest criticisms of him.) Third, a big part of it had to do with not resting our players and taking an alternate squad to the Gold Cup.

    http://www.prensalibre.com/pl/2010/febrero/25/378063.html

Most importantly, why are there more of your posts here than on either the USA or Haitian boards?

He loves Costa Rican football :D

Li looks embarassing putting the blame on everybody but himself....he tried to save himself again today by saying he was the number 1 responsible since he hired Kenton....but that's basically putting the blame on Kenton again IMO. And like USFAN12 said...the Gold Cup excuse is lame...Mexico used their Gold Cup team in the 2nd round of the HEX and played great football.

Everyone should just take responsibility since it's not just one or two people's fault...We blew a very comfortable lead in the first round of the HEX....and just needed 5 points out of the last 15 (or even a 1-0 loss away to Honduras would've been enough) but we couldn't even get that done.

    - Eduardo Li
    - The rest if the Federation
    - Rodrigo Kenton and his assistants
    - Hernan Medford and his assistants
    - Rene Simoes (yes for the tactics in the 2nd half against USA)
    - Walter Centeno horrible leadership
    - ALL THE PLAYERS from this 4 year process from the most talented like Bryan Ruiz, Celso Borges, and Carlos Hernandez to the worst like Andy Herron, Harold Wallace, and Victor Cordero.
    - The press

    1) I studied abroad in Costa Rica last year, and since it was the first time being in a "football-mad" country...I'm hooked. :D
    2) For Haiti, I'm only really interested in the national team, and outside of official tournaments, it's hard as hell to keep up with what's going on with them. And for the US...as an American, I like the national team, but not necessarily all of their fans (specifically, the many of them that condescend to Latin American countries at every opportunity).

I have to add Alain Gayhardy to this list, for wrecking the confidence of a few NT players (namely Umana, Fernandez, Wallace and Sirias) by leading his (former) Liberia team to their slaughter against Real Espana in the same stadium where the Honduras-Costa Rica game would take place.

Good call. I hope the Chileans can bounce back from this and use it as motivation for South Africa the way they did 50 years ago.
