FYI, Houston just acquired Harmse from Chivas USA for a conditional third or fourth round draft pick. A midfielder who played more with Toronto last year I believe than CUSA. http://chivas.usa.mlsnet.com/player...=harmse_k&playerId=har431426&statType=current
So... why did he not get any games for Chivas last year from July onward? Injury or just not good enough? Also, in a clip of him getting a red card the announcers alluded to the fact that he had a "reputation" for rough/dirty challenges. Anyone remember seeing him play? Hard to tell if they envision him as a DM or a central defender.
Chron story I'm very OK with this. 4th round pick 2 years from now, for a young midfielder coming off injury. Low risk, potential high reward.
Not a bad deal. This is a good idea to help with cover for our midfield. I wonder though if we have more in the works? I hope so.
see what I said in the other thread-Harmse was not the initial target. they wanted to keep Geoff in the backline-there was definitely someone higher on the list. I would have liked to see them get the original target but that team was quite delusional about the guy's worth. I will leave it at that-CC will recognize my screen name.
speaking of all this, according to the f.o. Dom will be in Guadalajara this weekend to watch the U18 Academy play in CopaChivas and to do some scouting.
Decent move for depth. Nothing spectacular but will probably make the gameday 18. Young enough to improve a bit.
Harmse is a hackster. Dom and Spenny better work with this guy to keep his temper down and play smarter. I like the guys tough nose but he crosses the line into dirty too much. A Canadian midfield enforcer who could play on the back line as well. Not much going forward though. Definitely worth a future late round draft pick. Maybe not quite good enough to be in the starting eleven.
Yeah, kind of a white Serioux. That worked out pretty well for us. Don't think he was quite at Adrian's level though.
Hackster you say? This will definitely increase the whine quotient of our physical play...which is a spectacular thing, IMO.
I've watched Harmse play a number of times over the last couple of years and his best use is as late game sub to help plug the midfield in front of the back line. He's coachable in that he doesn't stray from his tactical responsibilities and he plays within his capabilities, so Kinnear could probably get the best of him. Strictly a squad guy and utility player (mid/fullback/CB/wingback), he doesn't have the consistent technical skills needed to be a starter, so you'll have to look elsewhere for a bona fide replacement for Clark. His best game at TFC last year was the one just prior to his trade to Chivas, in which he played as a wingback in a 3-5-2 formation (at home vs NY, FWIW), motoring up and down the flank and putting his workrate and straight line speed to good use.
From what I've read, Harmse is FWIW a backup for Cameron and that's it. That's OK in that HD needs depth. Dynamo urgently need an attacking/creating midfielder with Holden gone.
