I think that's will be a suicide to line up at the same time like center defenders Stammy, Mendes and Petke, all three are too slow players that will make a safe tunnel for the attacking force of the adversaries...

In any line up, you can include Mendes or Petke but not both, my line up in a 4-3-3 until now will be:

    ................Angel

    Da Luz.........................Kandji

    Hall...........Stammler........Richards

    Borman...Miller...Mendes...Johnson

    ................Coundul

I say until now because I see Richards and Mbuta going pretty soon...

Hmmmm. 3 midfielders? Maybe he means a 2-3-5. Oooooh, with position jerseys.

This guy could be older than we think.

You know, retro might not be a bad way to go.

    What about this...

    Henry----------------Angel--------------Kanji
    DVB/Da Luz--------Tchani---------------Hall
    Miller---Petke/Goldy---Stammler--Johnson
    ---------------------Coundol--------------------

That's alot to put on Tchani's shoulder from the get go so I doubt it, but an interesting idea to shift Stammler back as he did at times last year.

Fair point regarding Petke/Mendes, but currently at CB who is faster than Mendes? I thought Miller was more of a LB/LM than CB.

Richards cannot play a more centralized midfield position, he needs his heels on the touch line to be successful. Maybe flip Kandji and Richards in your formation.

Draft is over. Tchani is already signed with MLS as a GA so he is on the roster. The other picks are fighting it out for slim pickings. Most likey other draft picks are going to have to fight for 1 or 2 dev spots.

Miller can play all those positions though i would prefer him on flank to utilize his overlapping and if i had to slide a wing back centrally it would be Johnson so I could play Hall at right back because in 4-3-3 wingbacks must have skill on ball and able to cross and Hall is more suited for that than borman if i were to put miller in center back. I personally like Oebster and think he can offer a lot in an advanced role, but know that some may disagree with me on that one and I slide Da Luz to the midfield

    ................Angel

    Oebster.........................Kandji

    Da Luz...........Stammler.......Tchani

    Miller...Goldy/Mendes/Petke...Johnson/Albright...Hall/Johnson

Right now I see this line up:

    ....................Angel
    Da Luz................................Kandji

    Borman..........Chani............Hall

    Miller....Mendes....Albright...Johnson

    ...................Candoul

But all this will change, we have four empty internationals spots, and I'm sure that Backe will try to fill it up some way and everything will be diferent...

With a new coach, I won't guess at any line up until a few preseason games are done and some of the trialists are signed or released.

da Luz also signed with the MLS prior to the draft. Was not a GA though so not sure if that means anything...

Are you sure? If so he has to be a senior roster player.

if the kid shows anything he's our best left winger....we've seen enough of Oebster, Borman, etc to know they aren't the answer.

I'm not sure this means all that much, unless the new CBA guarantees contracts.

From what I understand, currently all MLS contracts are written on air with invisible ink.

    five opinion questions -
1- are boyens and ubi the first 2 players that should be cut from last year's roster?
2- is mbuta the 3rd if he doesn't accept another dev deal?
3- is it more likely that oebster makes the squad under a european coach (assuming dvb is not re-acquired)?
4- is it likely that albright and mendes are in a head to head battle for a roster spot with whoever being healthier/able to not be a traffic cone the winner?
5- is tchani already the top cmid on the team?

my answer to all of the above is yes. i also think that borman deserves a senior contract for the way he improved at left back last year and the versatility that he provides. although, is that moot now with miller here? and i think ream likely makes the team simply by accepting a dev deal - i would rather have ream on a dev deal than boyens on a senior contract. what has boyens really shown us in his 2 seasons other than that he can royally suck a good portion of the time?

Wonder who the new keeper is and how many of the trialist will actually stick with the team.

I think Borman is pretty decent and what little I've seen of Öbster I liked.

if da Luz can't beat those two out for a place, our draft was a disaster. I think Borman is an ok squad player cause he can fill in at LM and LB, but he's not a starter.

thanks for vids...now watching videos about draft constant theme continues to mention having technically sound plays who can pass and play combination and such which is a good step for us...
it also adds more proof that our offseason in all likelihood is not over because we have some players who do not remotely fit this build

Apparently Da Luz had signed a contract (non-GA) with MLS prior to the draft so he is officially a senior roster player as of today, he can still be cut prior to the roster deadline.

    2010 Red Bulls Roster

Due to the pending labor negotiations it is unknown what, if any, rules are imposed on us that LA can ignore. Also, until futher clarification, we'll play by last years rules.

This leaves us at present 1 Senior Roster Spot left and 0 Develepment spots.

Practically speaking the team is going to have to make a decision on Mbuta and Borman as to whether they will get senior roster deals or dev deals again. Which means the new draft picks Ream, Chinn and Garcia all can only sign here if they take deve deals and if Mbuta and Borman move up or are cut.

On the senior roster its assumed we will add a couple more players to the list which means a couple players like Upiparapovic and Sassano etc are at risk.

Not necessarily. Since the team doesn't have to be "roster compliant" yet, he could technically be the 5th Dev Player.

But given what they get paid, I'm not betting on it. I think if he's signed already, it was a better deal than a dev deal.

I just wanted to point out that we don't really need to watch the overages in our positional counts yet. Plus, if the owners were smart, they'd petition the league for more roster spots, even if there still is no reserve league. A couple of teams had to take on temp players to fill injury shortcomings last year, and several traveled without a full bench at times. That's a clear indicator the teams need deeper rosters.
