I know this might be silly, but seeing as I'm a bit of a beer lover (tried over 500 different ones, so far), which is your favorite Irish beer? Is Guinness still massively popular because it's loved or just biggest, richest and the Irish version of Budweiser? Any love for Murphy's, Caffrey's, Beamish, or something else I don't know about?? thanks.
In the states, we drink a lot of Guiness, but we still get Beamish too. There are particular beer bars here that will have 200+ beers on tap. Its all good to me. Cheers.
I went home for a visit this past May and, to be truthful, I got tired of the lack of selection in Ireland. If you go in to a pub in NYC you have a selection of beer from all over. A pub in Ireland will have Guinness, Smithwicks, Bass, Harp, Tuborg Gold on tap and a couple of American beer in bottle form. Pubs in England have a decent selection of ales. I like Guinness but after 8 days I found myself wanting something else.
What bloody pubs were you going into! I've never seen Tuborg on draft. Every pub has Bud and some have Miller. Carlsberg by far the biggest draft selling lager.
A pub in the town of Tully Cross, Connemara. Four or fives beers on tap. And the same in a couple of pubs in Kinsale. Serious lack of variety. Maybe I have become the spoiled American brat my sisters accuse me of being.
Tully Cross as the name suggests is'nt a town but a cross roads with a Pub and a Hotel. They do well to keep open never mind serving a wide enough variety of beers to satisfy the palate of such a sophisticated returnee.
He's a nice, quiet, peace-loving man, come home to Ireland to forget his troubles. Sure, yes, yes, he's a millionare, you know, like all the Yanks. But he's eccentric - ooh, he is eccentric! Wait 'til I show ya... his bag to sleep in - a sleeping bag, he calls it! Here, let me show you how it operates
Bet they wouldn't accept dollars but were looking for some foreign thing called Euros and there was no ESPN or FSC on the TV either! The nerve.
Hey did you hear that Obama visited Ireland? So many stories about Irish Americans coming back, I mean. When I was in Ireland, one guy told me that you used to be able to stick a spoon in the top of a Guinness years ago, and another that his daughters were learning how to speak incorrectly because of the BBC. Clides versus cluyds or something.
