Somebody should start a lineup of the decade thread.

I remember that game. Necaxa ended up winning and David Beckham got red carded.

Later in the tournament, Tin Delgado scored the tying goal against Real Madrid, and Necaxa beat them on penalties.

The Tin-Aguinaga combination was a "giant killer".

It's the 2006 World Cup squad, minus Mora and Castillo. Replace with Cevallos and Aguinaga.

Some may put Kaviedes over Carlos Tenorio, but given what he did in 2006, Tenorio gets the start for me.

It may be treasonous to downplay Tenorio's NT contributions (and I preemtively apologize), but all he really ever did was score those two WC goals and make a couple of assists in the eliminatorias. Kaviedes by far contributed more.

guys lets remember that Mora kept two clean sheets for Ecuador in the World Cup,and I know he ********ed up in the 2007 Copa America but it was also partly the defense is fault....as well,I think both Tenorio and Kaviedes deserve to be on the Ecuadorian team of the decade, because they are classic players from our historic qualification to Ecuador's first World Cup.
Here's my list of guys: Cevallos,Ivan Hurtado,Giovanny Espinoza,Alex Aguinaga,Edwin Tenorio,Carlos Tenorio, Eduado "El Tanque" Hurtado,Ivan Kaviedes, Agustin Delgado, Patricio Urrutia,Ulises De La Cruz, Luis Antonio Valencia, Edison " kinito" Mendez,Daniel Viteri, Jhovanny Ibarra(they were part of Ecuador's 2002 World Cup squad), Alfonso Obregon, Wellington Sanchez,Christian Mora, Marcelo Elizaga....any others I've forgotten??

Kaviedes and Tin up front. Tenorio on the bench? I'd buy that.

Wellington Sanchez actually had a great Copa America when Aguinaga was injured, I think that was in Bolivia in 97, so did Graziani...thats about it. It was actually a pretty good team, but that was 2 decades (1990's) ago.

I see Jhovanni Ibarra and that crap Daniel Viteri on here LOL?? They never contributed anything but losses and disappointment to every ecua.
Daniel Viteri and Jhovani Ibarra go down as the WORST keepers I've seen this decade. BY FAR! They take the lead in that!

    My list:

Jose Cevallos; Ulises De La Cruz, Ivan Hurtado, Geovanny Espinoza, Neicer Reasco; Edwin Tenorio, Antonio Valencia, Alex Aguinaga, Edison Mendez; Ivan Kaviedes, Agustin Delgado

Yes, the WC 06 team with the exception of Mora.

And of course there are others that deserve a mention: Walter Ayovi, Segundo Castillo, Marcelo Elizaga, Cristian Noboa, Ariel Graziani, Paul Ambrossi, Alfonso Obregon, Carlos Tenorio...can't quite think of anyone else that deserves a mention.

Lets not forget that Ibarra had a good showing at the 1997 Copa AMerica in Bolivia where he made a lot of saves and got Ecuador to the quater-finals...I think he really started sucking when he faced Bielsa's Argentina in 2002 qualifiers(both matches 2-0),and Copa America 2004 in Peru(6-1),but all in all EL Tanque Hurtado should be on the list,Otlino Tenorio,Wellington Sanchez

Good players from the 90's don't really fit in the team of the decade when the decade was from 2000-2010.

We'd be glad to do that, but you should help us out by putting each name on a separate line and grouping them by their field positions..

Obregon was a defensive midfielder, not a defender...at least on the NT from I could remember.

We're talking about the 2000 decade...not 1997. And Ibarra sucks in general hes not international material and should never even think of being mentioned as a great. Only God knows how Ibarra has been bi-campeon with D.Quito and El Nacional in the past years...miracles.

El Tanque Hurtado = Benitez of his day. Otilino Tenorio didn't do anything for our NT...he was DEFINITELY someone with great potential IMO! But does he deserve to be mentioned on the best team of the decade? Not at all. He didn't accomplish a thing.

I was actually thinking about Salas barring his injuries, he might have been a lethal presence on our world cup squad. that dude had potential and was a bonafide game changer...maybe we'll see him in the copa america.

I have to be honest I really don't know much about Ibarra, but what I did know was that he was Jose Cevallos is sub in the 2002 Fifa World Cup squad, but he never played. I also have heard a couple of times from bummed Ecuadorians that he was the reason that Ecuador was eliminated in the 2004 Copa America,I've also heard alot of bad remarks about a dude named Jacinto Espinoza.
