Ives is saying these 3 up and coming Colombian players were signed by MLS through the discovery mechanisim...but no idea what team(s) maybe Philly.

    Anyone know?

America De Cali central defender Edward Zea, Deportivo Cali central defender Pablo Escobar and Deportes Quindio central defender Hanyer Mosquera have been signed by MLS and have already had discovery claims placed on them by various MLS teams, including the Philadelphia Union, sources with knowledge of the signings told SBI on Monday.

Colombian , Columbian...its al the same.

One to Philly, one to Chicago, and the last one is either DC or Seattle. The reasoning is that Ives is right on the Philly mention, while the other teams have all looked to Colombia for defenders within the last year or so. Seattle, Chicago, and DC should have good contacts within the league and agencies, so it makes sense that they would have a discovery claim on a player or two.

I'm sure the only ones that get these players should be our designated super clubs, as they deserve them to make the whole league better. The best leagues all have super clubs.

FCD has had two Colombians in the last two years(Toja and Benitez) and has Pareja there as a coach as well and is looking for another defender.

    Could be any team really

Maybe the new CBA says that every MLS team must have a central defender from Colombia? This makes seven after all! :)

Sorry guys... these three are nowhere near as promising as the ones you already got.

*still waiting for the "Colombian guy called Pablo Escobar" joke*

Maybe not, but Colombia is a known producer of high quality....centerbacks.

And the well-established pipeline of Colombian...centerbacks is the reason that a guy like 18-year-old Yamith Cuesta started a majority of the games once he signed with Chivas USA.

Your everyday stuff in Medellin is top shelf for us up here. Just ask Pablo Escobar.

Makes sense since Cuesta was actually playing 2nd division down here. Those 3 should do fine.

    Good punchlines.

Based on Seattle's ties with Deportivo Cali (Montero and Hurtado), I'm guessing the former head of the Medellin cartel ends up in Seattle.

While you were going for sarcasm, you are absolutely right. The best leagues do have super clubs...?

Name me one league thats marketable beyond its own borders and competes well on an international level that doesn't have a superclub(s)...

One could argue that the Bundesliga does not have super clubs. Sure, Bayern Munich could be considered a super club, but they don't play like it on the field (and it rarely shows in the tables).

Point is, Bundesliga has more parity than the NFL, which is a salary capped league where everyone is supposed to be on equal ground.

All jokes aside, I doubt Escobar is going to get an American visa with that name. I've heard plenty of stories with namesakes.

The naiveness of this post is staggering.

Let's see. The best teams in Moldova, Bulgaria, Albania, Finland, the Faroes, Mozambique, Guatamale, El Salvador, Thailand, etc, etc, etc...

Most leagues have dominant clubs that are their versions of superclubs for that league...even though they may not be on the world stage.

Basically, all you are considering are the richest leagues and top clubs in those leagues as superclubs, and writing off everyone else. How astute.

Guess what? The richest leagues are usually the ones who are the most competetive/marketable because they have the best resources and infrastructure, thus attracting the best players. Gee, what a surprise.

    Good logic.

Seems like it's a pretty bad sign that all the colombians on here (aka, people who have seen these guys play) have a negative opinion of these guys?

Well, you have to remember a couple of rules. If any player from anywhere decides on MLS they have to be poor, or something is wrong with them. SA's are the same with the Mex league. If the player isn't good enough for Europe they go to Mexico is the cry.

Also, look at the posters. I'm not sure how anyone can believe a word EstebanL says at this point considering his past bluster.

When they come and play we will find out soon enough.

Seriously, Bayern Munich is a super mega mega club, one of THE European giants in history. They're having a lull at the moment like Ajax etc. Four European cups? Only beaten by AC Milan, Liverpool, Madrid and equalled by Ajax.

I rememer in 1989 Hearts drew Bayern in the quarter final of the Uefa cup and I've never seen such excitement ina nd around Tynecastle. They weren't the best side at the time but that club coming to town created a massive buzz. BTW Hearts won 1-0 only to lose 2-0 in Germany. Sad thing was that in the Semi Final, Bayern played a Maradona led Napoli. That would have been something to see at Tynie!!

    I'd say they qualify.

Your point is taken though, the Bundesliga is becoming the model league in world soccer these days, should they ever start getting better TV contracts and broadcasting in HD, it might be my first destination for soccer on TV (after MLS that is):)

Sorry on topic, I'm guessing these guys get allocated by MLS to train with the club who claim them so will we not know until spring training starts where these guys are?
