Really? How cold was it when you drank it? If you served it ice cold, try another one that you've let warm up a little bit. I think you'll like it better.
Perhaps the best beer I have ever had - 8% volume (and unbelievably smooth), home-brewed, and only just over €2 a bottle. It's from a pub in Amsterdam called 'The Windmill' (which is -surprise- an old windmill). It's out near a part of town called Muiderpoort where a friend of mine lives but if you hire a bicycle (which you kind of have to in Amsterdam; incredible fun) you can cycle to there from the city centre in about 10 minutes.
Any of you lucky bastards able to attend the Cantillon Open Brew Day a week from Saturday? http://www.cantillon.be/br/3_14 Cantillon should be a UN world heritage site.
I took the advice and had it again, this time letting it sit for about 10 minutes before drinking it because it came out cold - it was MUCH better this time around. I think last time it was as you described...just too cold.
Had a Rouge Brewery beer dinner last night. Had already had some, but not all. Morimoto Soba Ale Juniper Pale Ale Dry Hopped St Rouge Red Dead Guy Ale Double Dead Guy Ale Hazelnut Brown Nector & Shakespeare Black and Tan I think my favorite was the dry hopped St Rouge Red. The food pairing was a tomato blue cheese soup and it stood up well with that.
Dude, it's Rogue. Rouge is something my mom used to wear. That said, Rogue is one of America's best breweries, period. And if you can make it to the brewery, chances are you'll find stuff that never makes it out of the local market. Wonderful place.
Picked up a 6'er of Magic Hat's Howl. Got it because I find most of Magic Hat's beers to be quite tasty, and I loved the label. Turns out its a very good brew.
Damn. I wish we got Magic Hat on the West Coast. Their coalition with Redhook hasn't paid off for us at all yet.
Hey, neighbor! Not your pappy's 'gansett. Although the photographer should have spun the glass to obscure the SA logo.
Had one of these last night: I don't even remember that much about it, but in my mind it was the most awesome beer ever as it was given to me as a victory beer to celebrate Alabama's first SEC title in a decade last night!
I was really bummed by the soba ale. The Juniper Pale Ale is quite tasty. This year's N'Ice Chouffe (their xmas ale with Thyme and Curacao) is awesome. And the Great Lakes Nosferatu is really good.
The other day I had the best strong-beer that I've tasted in quite a while. Three Philosphers. YummY!
The Pliny is amazing, as always. The Speedway still needs some time, the yeast finish is still too strong, but this will be an outstanding stout when fully aged.
Ooooh, hadn't thought about the Cherry. Great point. BTW, made this last night - it was nice for a cold night. Mulled Beer 1 good beer (I'd stick with a mild beer - nothing overly flavored or hoppy). 1 coin of ginger 1 pinch ground nutmeg 1/2 cinnamon stick 3-5 whole cloves 1 egg, yolk only 2 t sugar 1 T honey Heat beer and spices in saucepan over low heat (DO NOT BOIL) In a small bowl, whisk yolk and sugar until nearly white in color. Temper yolk mixture with 1-2 T warm beer. Slowly mix yolk mixture into beer. Continue to heat for 5 minutes while stirring gently. DO NOT LET BOIL Remove from heat, add honey and stir to dissolve. Strain into warmed mug. Serves 1.
sorry haven't had time to go thru all the pages... (Vol.2??? ) enjoyed the 1st iteration of this thread... it's -18 deg. celcius/ 0 deg F here in Montreal tonight. had several of our hometown classic; utterly delicious as always. if you like your stout and you're a hophead, this is a must try if you're ever in the area. St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout: gonna use what i have left to braise some short ribs in the slow cooker this weekend... can't wait.
Is this available outside of Montreal? In Ottawa perhaps? Might have to try it out when I get up there....
yup, but unfortunately, not on tap. it's available @ the LCBO, (Ontario Liquor Store) in 6 packs. or if you really want to make a beer pilgrimage, you can just hop over the bridge and head over to the Quebec side and most likely get it at a depanneur (which is your local corner store) in the city of Hull . just as a reference, both St. Ambroise beers (the other being a pale ale - hopped like an IPA) were favourites of Michael Jackson - not the gloved one of course . may they both R.I.P. cheers.
