In this link of a local newspaper in Guatemala, talks that the contract of Pappa ends this year. Do you think Fire should buy him? http://www.prensalibre.com/pl/2009/noviembre/17/356565.html On several radios in Guatemala, their saying that Puebla of Mexico is interested on buying him from Municipal, they have made a offer, that’s the team where Pescadito Ruiz plays, he probably recommended Pappa. That same radio said that Municipal ask the 30% of property from Xerez of Spain if they bought Pappa, but the Xerez wanted to buy the 90% and that the deal died last month, they don’t discard both sides talking this December again.
Re: Marcos Pappa contract ends on December 31 2009 I had thought that it was MLS policy to not buy players. Is this incorrect? If MLS were to make an offer on a player, is there any chance it would out-bid a Mexican team? I'm guessing he is gone.
Re: Marcos Pappa contract ends on December 31 2009 Policy or not we bought Conde and we have allocation money from the Soumare sale.
Re: Marcos Pappa contract ends on December 31 2009 not to mention Rolfe gone... Prideaux retiring... we have the money...
Re: Marcos Pappa contract ends on December 31 2009 Do the fire really want to buy a guy who basically disappeared the second half of the season and who has questionable decison making most of the time.
Re: Marcos Pappa contract ends on December 31 2009 http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/spieler/73668/marco-pappa/profil.html They have Marco Pappa at a market value 311,500 £ or 523,320
Re: Marcos Pappa contract ends on December 31 2009 How much did we buy Conde for? 500k seems like a lot (if that number is accurate), but Pappa adds a lot to the team, especially with the talent we're losing this offseason.
Re: Marcos Pappa contract ends on December 31 2009 I'm going to cast my lot in with "Yes" crowd on this one.
Re: Marcos Pappa contract ends on December 31 2009 Me too, yes re: Pappa. But as I mentioned before in the other thread about this same topic last month, I just can't see anyone in Europe paying $1 million for a player like Pappa. I think he's got some good potential, but he wasn't a MLS star. I think $500M is probably on the higher end of what it would take to buy Pappa. If I remember correctly, the Fire paid ~$350K for Conde . . . but that's only my recollection.
Re: Marcos Pappa contract ends on December 31 2009 I think Pappa is worth somewhere in the neighborhood of $250K give or take. That assumes that he is locked down for at least three years as I think he still needs time to mature.
Re: Marcos Pappa contract ends on December 31 2009 I'm a big fan of him and your 'locked down' for three years seems spot on for what I would do. I don't know salary wise what to offer him though. This is MLS and I don't believe we can offer him enough total for the three years. Remember as well he needs someone a fcuk lot better than Hamlett to develop him into something a lot stronger. His raw talent is there for sure.
Re: Marcos Pappa contract ends on December 31 2009 I know a team in Europe that would spend well north of that on him.
Re: Marcos Pappa contract ends on December 31 2009 Probably, but that is the nature of MLS. Pappa is only 21. Unless he has an overinflated sense of his talent, he would do well to realize that he could stay in MLS and make good money for at least two more years and be a starter. That would showcase his skills for his national team and other teams around the world. In most leagues across the pond, he's a bench player.
Re: Marcos Pappa contract ends on December 31 2009 Papa will have a better season if he doesnt have a slow ass like Blanco making him do the running for two players.. which i what happened pretty much the entire game against New England. Get a faster attacking mid along with papa and your gonna see a player who can show you some stuff when he doesnt have two guys on him the whole time..
Re: Marcos Pappa contract ends on December 31 2009 My only problem with spending a lot on Pappa is that we never seem to get 90 minutes out of him. Does Hamlett always take him out for tactical reasons or does Pappa tire around 70 minutes into games?
Re: Marcos Pappa contract ends on December 31 2009 You wrote "Hamlett" and "tactical reasons" in the same sentence. Funny, funny, funny
I'd buy him, but there are other MLS teams interested in him. Living in SJ, I know that the Quakes have been watching him all season.
Re: Marcos Pappa contract ends on December 31 2009 Si (spanish for yes) and I've agreed all season with the previous "Blanco slowing Pappa down" post. and I love Blanco.
Re: Marcos Pappa contract ends on December 31 2009 I see a lot of people saying this, but the fact is Pappa led the entire team in minutes played. He averaged 81 minutes played per start. He went beyond the 75th minutes in 22 of 28 starts, beyond the 80th in 16, beyond the 85th in 13, and went the full 90+ 7 times. Pappa was given ample opportunity to play deep into matches this season. That everyone seems to think he was subbed out in the 70th minute every week is, I think, a fair indicator of his effectiveness in the final 15 minutes of matches.
Re: Marcos Pappa contract ends on December 31 2009 You can't spend salary cap money on whatever you want. It's paid by the league for player salary. It isn't money the Fire have that they can use as they please.
