    I didn't "promise" anything.

What I said is that this lineup is there for the taking if we had General Manager with vision and tenacity. It will take some hard work and competent schmoozing skills to pull it off, but it can be done -- and it can be done a helluva lot easier than what Clive Toye accomplished 35 years ago.

These players' ages are perfect (read: affordable). Their transfer status is close to perfect. And the new stadium is damn near perfect.

All eyes will be on Red Bull Arena next year.

Again, I ask politely. Will we get repeat customers if the big draws are Macoumba Kandji, Danleigh Borman, and Carlos Johnson?

Frankly, I think we'd get more media attention and on-field success with David Beckham, Zinedine Zidane and Thierry Henry.

We certainly couldn't do any worse.

Rumor also confirmed on BBC Sport's Daily Football Rumors section by Spanish Sports Paper, AS.

Not likely to happen until summer of 2010 though, after France have won their second World Cup!

dont forget the star-less visiting MLS teams such as LA minus Donovan, or Dallas minus Cunningham. Henry may come, but many others are headed in the opposite direction. This will hurt the league more then the benefit of a henry.

Is he bringing Weah, Sol Campbell and Zidane with him?;) Has he decided who the next Coach and GM will be? Tell me its not Gullit. Does it piss Mateschitz off that he could never attract a guy like that to Salzburg but his afterthought in NY can? Speaking of Mateschitz, does he plan on first the first time ever, attending an RBNY match next season or he can't be bothered?

I hear that Zidane has been in talks with his buddies Eric Cantona and Didier Deschamps into joining him in coming out of retirement. This would be the spine of the team. Arthritic and huched with osteoperosis, but the spine nonetheless.

    Vive la vieille France!!

I heard that Michel Platini wanted to have a summer house around NY next year. We should try to lure him! :D

    New information.....

Still think an Henry-Zidane combo isn't possible?

    http://www.bigapplesoccer.com/teams/redbulls2.php?article_id=20829

Apparently, Youri Djorkaeff has been talking to Red Bull about working here in the front office.

And he alludes to "players" (not just one, but multiple) from France who want to play in New York.

Henry is mentioned in the article.

Patrick Vieira is mentioned in the article.

If these French "players" do come to New York, hiring Djorkaeff will be a smart move. It would be a good idea to have a fellow French player with MLS experience in the front office to help get these new guys acclimated to America and the league.

And regarding Vieria, if I'm reading this passage in his wikipedia profile correctly, his contract with Inter Milan ends in 2010, which means he would be available on a free transfer, as well (just like Beckham, Zidane, & Henry).

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrick_Vieira

"Juventus were stripped of their and 2004-05 and 2005–06 titles after it was revealed they were involved in a match-fixing scandal.[14] Juventus were relegated to Serie B and deducted 17 points by the Italian Football Federation for their involvement,[14] prompting many of the club's major stars to move elsewhere. After press speculation linking him to various clubs, including Arsenal and Manchester United, on August 2, 2006 Vieira officially signed a 4 year-deal for Internazionale in a deal reported to be worth €9.5m, less than half the €20m fee Juventus had paid just 12 months prior. In January 2010 it is 75% nationwide rumoring that he will be returning to Arsenal if they come up with an extra 750,000 Arsenal could not acquire during the Summer 2009 transfer window.[15]"

I'm not saying anything about the distinction between "not impossible" and "likely" (there are an almost infinite number of the former and relatively few of the latter). All I will say is that, if RB is thinking of Djorkaeff in the front office, whether it's because he is French or not, it would be another example (see Agoos) of their total incompetence in managing an MLS team.

Djorkaeff in Europe, Ramos in USA and Angel in Latin America as Scout will be fantastic....

I will love to see that....

So what you're saying is the Eagles will get together again for their Hell-frozen-thawed-and-refrozen-4-times-over Tour?

    Talk about left overs. LOL!

The most successful foreign player in club history is Juan Pablo Angel and he joined the club on the good side of 30. 'Nuff said.

Henry and Vieri would put us in top MLS position if we retain angel and get better at mids and def for supporting cast. Djerkoff should be hired as talent recruiter as far as I am concerned.

    Vieri is not useful.

Djekoff should be GM or President.

My guess is that the Club is looking help in Ramos, Jerky and some others players with that experience to help them ensemble a team in the next four months and be ready for the 2010 season, I don't think is with the idea to be managers, coach or sport director or anything like that, it is only to help them to look for the right players right now, and I'm sure they will look for a 1/2 dozen of them or maybe more, but that is it, for this four months....That by the way is a good idea....

tru, if any Henry signing were to be done it would be in Jan with a July start date. I dont think they would leave a hole like that. They would want to generate the buzz beforehand. If signatures arent had in Jan, then that means they couldnt get him and they'll see how the start of season goes before trying to plug holes with whats available in july.

    best metz post ever :)

I think you are right, but I would just rather see them hire a real TD now...make Richie official and start the process that way.

The new stadium with natural grass could help his decision. That way there wouldn't be any hamstring/injury concerns.

Well this organization (Metro/RB) has been making big mistakes over and over for 14 years and if they don't hire Richie as the coach of the RB this year, they will making the worst mistake just yet.....

I heard someone say that Richie might wind up in DC and get rid of Sohen. just a rumor I guess.

I personally like to see Danadoni come back to NY and give him atleast a 3 year contract.

My question is, ¿why experiment with others" when Richie in two occacions has demonstrated his value, this year in 8 game he did more points then osoryyyyio in 22 games, in 2006 he did the same, so, what really we want, pretty names or a really coach....

I know, I would give Richie a contract also, but if he goes I would like to see Danadoni. I know DC is thinking .

I'll play devils advocate... I believe that you could have put the janitor of GS as coach and he would have better results then JCO. Plus while I do want to give Richie a chance, doesn't mean he'll be good, it's very different playing out 8 games in a dead season then coaching for a full season.

For all we know they give him the job and he becomes the worst coach in history... everything is possible.

Now saying all that, I do want him to be the coach and to give him 2/3 years to work his magic, but if he doesn't produce results he should be shown the door.

Actually, it is the reaction he got from this team in a dead season that has me thinking he's good head coach material. By the player's own admission, he knew exactly what to do to turn the season around. He simplified everyone's roles, simplified the tactics, and got the team to defend as a team. These are all what I've heard from Angel, Stammler and Petke in the interviews over the past few weeks. Sure, they aren't going to dis the coach, but when you look at the team performance (goals against, goals scored, and win record) and include the intangibles. Kandji and Angel both started scoring again, Richards started to impact the game, and most of all, Rojas not on field.

Seriously, we can assume even Sir Alex Ferguson would be given the axe if Man U was relegated, but let's at least acknowledge that Richie Williams is ready for a head coaching position. And I'm confident he'll be a head coach next year. I just hope it's for us.
