We did it again.. Sorrentino was not gonna be able to save everything...

Great Win... We are showing great character and grit... We didnt play to bad in the first half... Not enough conviction though.. Second half we played much better and played the ball quick and through the right players.. I think we really deserved the win..

    MOTM- Nesta.... Dida

exactly, plus he still completed almost 90% of his passes and when caught in possession it was because he was hounded from his first touch by multiple players, not because he was careless. carelessness annoys me, but having players draped all over you before you can get a touch in, every player in the world will struggle to not lose possession. same thing with pirlo, completed almost 95% passing rate and an assist and other good deliveries. yeah they can't mark for crap, but they never have. wait until they have their bad weeks to jump down their throats (and they will, so their critics will have plenty of legit opportunities). this week, those players did fine and came up big for us, yet they still get maligned?!?

seems strange imho, maybe it's just me.

    SANDRO!!!!!!!!!!!! GRAZZIE!

I am not sure if he defended better or attacked. Dida totally redeemed himself and I still don't understand how come we looked so much slower than Chievo and did not control the midfield, but we woke up in the second half?
Seedorf and Pirlo still played well, while R80 was crap again.

nesta is a legend and credit where it is due. most of us, myself included look at dida as washed up, and for the record i still think he is, but today he came up big. really both keepers were terrific, which was nice to see after mid-week we had a match were both keepers made howlers.

The only thing i disagree about is that we are past our problems. we will still struggle to score against these minnows, especially if we don't get a breakthrough early, not to mention our squad is even older and has less depth than the last few years where by jan/feb we were running on fumes. unfortunately i have a feeling, winning 3 straight including roma and madrid at the bernabeu is gonna be by far the best week of our season. we should enjoy it while it lasts, as the frustration will ensue again shortly...I hope I'm wrong though of course, but let's try to remain grounded, even if feelings of euphoria are understandable

yeah, nesta and dida get my votes as well, HM to borriello for changing the complexion of the match.

it's sad when your best scorer is a defender, but i'll take it for today! i gotta say as much as i hate ronaldinho he played pretty good in the second half and created some dangerous chances, he was visibally upset when he was substituted. and boriello does add a "je ne ce quoi" to the attack

yes, my friend the beginning especially was rough on the counter and the expected let-down syndrome was there, but overall I more than stand by my sentiments. regardless, for tonight we can both agree celebration is in order. :)

I think Seedorf and Pirlo forgot they weren't playing Real Madrid this week, they were playing a team who presses and "drapes" all over them. Which, actually, is called defense. When encountering said teams, its better to move the ball quickly than, say, hold it and get tackled. You can make excuses for these players if you like, but remember they get paid probably 10 times as much as Marcolini, and today he played them off the park.

The second half was different, the team came out with a fire and started to impose themselves on the game. Seedorf took better care of the ball, Pato started to come back into midfield and take players on, Oddo continued to suck, etc... I like Antonini and think he should be given a chance more often. He really didn't do much wrong and gifted Seedorf a chance in the first half with a ribbon and a bow.

Overall, I think everyone is noticing how Leonardo was correct when he said Nesta represents the way forward. I think after his year off he came back realizing how much more he wanted to accomplish and his desire to compete was rekindled. He gives everything every game, is our most firey competitor, and our second best offensive output (an assist and two goals). A team like Milan needs its leaders to... lead. Some of our players still need an entire half to figure this out.

You're right. Fatigue and dips in performance are inevitable, especially when you have a team full of "distinguished" players. Whether or not Milan survives the eventual drop somehow (sustained health/additional player) is a mystery, however there is some evidence that warrants optimism.

First and foremost Nesta is back and is looking excellent. We're talking about a guy who, when he's on form, is the clear cut best positional defender in world football. Also he seems to be leading the defense more in Maldini's absence which was a void nobody was sure could be filled. His presence will be monumental for Milan's ambitions this season.

Thiago Silva is a brilliant young defender and Nesta will only make him better. Take his athleticism matched with Nesta and the superb coaching - we'll make a world beater out of this kid yet.

The midfield is showing great enthusiasm including Ronaldinho. Good signs ahead.

Our goalscorers are evenly talented in all areas and I'm confident Klass will have a future in this club because he shows excellent patience for a guy his age.

And finally we have the greatest 20 year old football player on the face of the earth.

I don't know what the future holds for this team but speaking from a personal perspective, my attitude towards this team from the beginning of the season compared to know is almost 180 degrees opposite. Call me deluded but when all is said and done this team is filled with champions and that still counts for something.

fair points jawz, though i beg to differ about the marcolini point, yeah chievo worked hard, but just the same there is more to football than tackling and work rate it should go without saying. In the end those guys' class showed through, imho in fact pirlo's set piece and left-footed cross in the second half led to both goals, i'd like to see marcolini do that. ;)

    canzano

i admire your ability to be truly upbeat for the season-long future. I wish i could follow, but i just see too many problems still, even if we get a good fullback in january. you're right about one thing, nesta is emerging as more of a leader on and off the field in maldini's absence. I think people forget he was a leader at lazio and certainly has the brains to organize. in his post-match interview he also lavished praise on dida, which is something his fragile psyche needs. those are the little things leaders need to do and nesta has such respect and credibility behind his words given his accomplishments and quality. I just pray he stays healthy!!!! hands down for me the most important player for our squad this season! pato being second most

in fact, starting to think the armband should go ahead and gravitate it's way towards his arm, lazio ultras be damned.

    Zambrotta s.v. Entra all'88'.

Nesta 8.5 Una doppietta fantastica.

    ---------------------------------------------

Dida- 7.5: Took a lot of stick following the midweek howler in Madrid, but he looked to silence his critics with a stunning save at the death.

Oddo- 6: The wing-back got forward on numerous occasions but was could have done more to avoid the cross which lead to Chievo’s opener.

Nesta- 8: Gave an organised display at the back and became the unlikely goal hero with a late double that gifted the Rossoneri a priceless victory.

T.Silva- 7: Put in a disciplined performance alongside Nesta and the pair are gradually forming a resolute partnership.

Antonini- 6: Made some good forward runs and provided Milan’s only real chance of the first half when crossed for Seedorf.

Flamini- 6.5: The Frenchman worked his socks off all evening and provided a useful alternative in the middle of the park.

Pirlo- 7: The Italian midfielder kept his side pushing forward when the chips were down and led the side to a comeback against a very dangerous Chievo outfit.

Seedorf- 7: The Dutchman was a constant source of danger throughout the encounter and was denied by an impressive Sorrentino on more than one occasion.

Pato 6: Following his coronation at the Bernabeu in midweek, the Duck seemed a little off the pace as the failed to finish off a number of promising through balls from Dinho.

Huntelaar- 5: The Dutchman is still adapting to the Italian game and was kept quiet for prolonged spells.

Ronaldinho- 6.5: The Brazilian put in a generous performance and is starting to work much harder for the good of team. Had Pato been sharper, Dinho may well have had an assist to his name.

you already predicted that this match would be the let-down as you tend to do before every match we have now. i think we're all on the same page that this team is very vulnerable but we could do with a bit more optimism. don't say things like 'i have the feeling this is gonna be by far the best week of our season'.
looking at our performances i still see a lot room for improvement, which leads me to the conclusion that this team could also still play better (and not just worse).
i agree a lot with jawz as i get the most frustrated with this team with all these ressourceful players when you almost never get 100% performance out of them.
what i take from this week is that some of our players are finding a better form and that our attack is slowly getting stronger. also the spirit within the team is rising and i think we could join this trend, starting with the easy task to believe in a positive performance in naples on wednesday. :D

Oh, as I have mentioned before, the more pessimistic I am, the better the team do. So for the sake of the team I will continue my trend of pessimism.

i have more confidence against bigger teams in europe than minnows. sorry, just how i honestly feel right now. I try not to get too negative, but sometimes I can't help it... :(. maybe i just need some anti-depressants.

that goes for me too, although the last derby really rocked my confidence and i pissed my pants before the game in madrid.
i am usually not so much on the optimistic side either but sometimes i feel one has to try for a bit more balance on this board. ;)

Antonini played well yesterday..He should really get more starts on the left..

Oddo is frustrating to watch... Its like he has no idea on how to be composed and calm on the ball.. he plays ok in defense.. but in the build up play he is terrible and ruins a lot of attacks for us..

And I think Ronaldinho showed once again he is improving.. He was very good in building up the play and set up a lot of dangerous attacks...He still needs to get that burst of pace back over 5 to 10 yards but he is improving game by game..

Nesta is the best CB in the world... after Thuram and Maldini retired.. he can officially claim the best reader of the game title... and best CB in the world title officially... He is beautiful to watch...

Pirlo set up both goals and I could probably only count 2 passes that didnt hit there target..

Pato played well and his confidence is also growing and would have 2 more goals if he had finished better..

And hopefully Borriello gets the start against Napoli... He brings something that we really need ..He is physical..He has skill on the ball...And hes an Aerial threat in the box... And the fact that he can hold the ball up is invaluable for Seedorf ,Ronaldinho,Pato, and Pirlo because it allows them to get into more dangerous positions to cause the opposition trouble...

I agree, some balance is needed. But its been pretty hard to be optimistic for Milan in the past couple of seasons. Every time we start playing well, or win a game in a convincing manner, we just go ahead and piss it all away with a frustrating draw or defeat to a small team. In 2006-2007 we didn't even have a win at home until after the winter break. We would win 5-0 in one game and then lose the next against one of the minnows. But we made up for that in the CL.

The next two years have been unbelievably frustrating since there has been no ray of light for us fans to cling to. Every good performance that may get the fans thinking again, was followed by a shi*ty one to lead to the inevitable let down. It really has drained the optimism out of me. I actually try not to get optimistic because I can't deal with the let downs anymore.

I don't want to sound like a spoiled fan, but there isn't a team in Europe that is more of a roller coaster than Milan. Who the hell knows what Milan is going to show up on the day. The one that is going to play the phenomenal football they are capable of or the indifferent lateral/pass back style that we have grown accustomed to. I think it would make the lives of fans so much easier if we either were good or just flat out sucked. This idea of being amazing one week and completely shi*ty the week after is too damn stressful.
