Hey guys, well am a varsity letterman but I get barely any playing time and only have 1 goal and 2 assist, which annoys me cause I could have a lot more. I'd rather not argue with my coach because soccer is a team sport and I don't want to mess the balance up (last year we were like 3-14 , and this year where 8-10). But I want to play in college and this is my senior year, am CAPABLE of playing at the collegiate level but my stats don't show it at all, I play very well for my club and have goals there but when I fill out athlete questionnaire for colleges and they ask for goals I stop and forget about it because I figure they will probably laugh it aside and move on to the guy with 20 goals or something.

So here is my question is high school soccer stats the only way for me to play college ball?
    and
Should I still contact coaches ?
    and
How big a role does club soccer play in selection?

EDIT: also when I do get in games its all types of postions? o_O Like I've played center mid (my fav where I got my goal and assist, really fun I get to be creative and I like playing as a team and assisting. Forward I do alright couple chances that I was robbed , keeper grabbed my leg when I beat him or I hit the post, or our captain takes my pk. Wings left or right, i dislike this I have pace but I usually get caught to high , i've been workin on this and have stopped so am getting better) I joined the team last year btw

main thing to play college ball is to make a video of yourself, kind of like for you to do it but if you can find videos anywhere of you playing. that would be the best you can do bc you can send it to the coach.

i played about 60% of my senior year injured, and didnt play club when i was a senior, but i still had small colleges interested in me bc they came to the big games, and many people saw that i had talent the few times they saw me playing.

be realistic, try to play at a small college, contact the assistant coach or the best way is just go to the college where you want to play and talk to them, go to the practice and the game, but really, talk to them, tell them you want to play for the team.

if you think you have the potential to play for a big school, you can transfer after one year at a small school.

least but not last. go to try out for a pdl team or a usl team, most of the try outs are open and you may pay a little money but you gone learn a lot, and play vs real good players, heck if you have the money go to Los Angeles and go to the open try outs for LA and Chivas USA.

Why not? you got nothing to lose, do this now that you are young bc when you get older you gone regret it if you dont do it, plus you can tell your stories to your kids and to the younger generations.

Good luck, and always carry a soccer ball with you everywhere, and train 200% not just in the field but at the gym too!

    it really depends.

    you mean soccer speed?

last time i was playing vs a 6 4" defender, obviously he was faster than me bc he has large legs.

most fast people is borned with that.

although you do can get a lot of faster with a soccer ball on your feet though.

that would only happen with the time you spend with the soccer ball at your feet in practice, and not just in school or club practices but practicing on your own.

get a ball and start running, take a clock with you and see how fast you can get to the other side of the field with the ball at your feet, control with the ball is not a natural skills, you can develop it, bring cones with you and go side to side with speed.

i owned the dude most of the time bc yes withough the ball he would get in front of my every time but the pace with the ball i had was too much for him, practice your speed and the cones, that should be enough for high school, then if you are talking of college and pro soccer then, is a lot more complicated than that, your control with the ball and speed have to be mastered.

    good luck.

need more advices, just hit me up.

Good for you. As for contacting coaches absolutely yes! Unless your a top player you'll have to contact schools yourself. I know it isn't as fun as being straight recruited by schools but if you want to play in college you have to do some work yourself.

Be realistic! Contact schools you feel you'll have a realistic chance of playing for. Don't rule out NAIA schools and please don't pick a school based on soccer. Find a school that fits you both in soccer and academics. Fill out the recruit questionnare forms on college sites and follow it up with an email to the coach or assistant. Tell them about your playing career thus far, any awards won, soccer references (coaches).

Make sure you have a nice or at least decent gpa and test scores.

This isn't necessarily true. Proper running form is very important. I went from a 5.2 to 4.7.-4.8 40 in high school by fixing my form.

It's physics. Go to a mirror and run in place. Is your head moving up and down? left to right? Are your shoulders square or are they moving back and forth? Any movement that is not directly forward is wasted energy that's slowing you down.

Watch olympic sprinters. Their heads do not bob, wiggle, wobble or move at all. Their shoulders are perfectly square to the ground. Their elbows are locked.

Imagine a 100 yard long rope at exact eye level between two trees. You should be able to sprint between them without your eyes going either above or below the rope. Pull that off and you'll be amazed at how much faster you go.
