Thought we'd discuss any new ideas for banners and signs.

I work at a plastics factory, and every once in awhile I'm able to get some high micron white film to take home. This isn't garbage bag type stuff, it's like the thick film you buy frozen food stuff in. My problem up to now is getting it a decent width.

I'd like to get some to make a general army sign, and some green and blue long streamers (attached to the top of the barracks that we can stream down to the bottom).

I might even get enough that we can make into a large sign (Army with logo) to stream down. Of course I have to get the film and then paint it.

If we ever get a spot at the complex to store our stuff, this point would be mute, but If I can get some of these things done during the off season would anyone be willing to store them?

Considering the distance I drive for the games, and w/o a the 2010 schedule I don't know which games I can attend, I have a limited ability to keep them and make sure their at the games.

So do you have any ideas of signs we can make with this type of film?

I can store them if needed. I need to talk to them about storing things there.

On a semi-related note, Laclede's Army just grew by 5 drums! I bought a kit so they are all red and shiney! (They didn't have green) Anyway... My car isn't going to be able to hold all of them and all of the other stuff if I'm giving any rides. 2 toms, 1 floor tom, another snare, and the big bass. We're going to be rockin' loud this year!

My house is really close to Soccer Park, so I can store stuff, too.

Red drums? Eh, I guess we can paint 'em....
Whatever happened to those drums you said the FO bought for us and were keeping at Soccer Park?

As for what to do with the 'films', how about a stand-sized Athletica jersey? Or a Laclede's Army shield? ^.^
lol That's probably a bit much, even when scaled down to match Soccer Park's stands instead of Estadio Monumental U's.... though would be very fun if we could do it. If not, I'd say a large (3' x 20' ? 4' x 30' ?) banner that just says "Athletica" on it, with the appropriate colors of course. Or you make a replacement to the "Laclede's Army" bedsheet banner.

The army shield was more of what I was thinking about. A replacement to the bedsheet will be the easiest. I can add grommetts to the plastic and it should hold up pretty well.

With any super large banners, I'm wondering more about weight. Say we had one that covered most of the barracks, I'd almost have to use a roller and house paint. Which could increase the weight by quite a bit.

I have a large roll of clear film here at the house. I'm going to start on making a 10x10 foot (maybe a bit larger) version of the army logo. The hardest bit will be getting it scaled properly.

I've also been racking my brain on lyrics for songs. Two traditional Irish drinking songs are stuck in my head:

    The "Monto" chorus would be more like;

Take me up to St Lou, St Lou, St Lou
Take me up to St Lou, Lan-ge-roo
    Boom, Boom,
    Ol' St Lou

Of course coming up with the verse lyrics are harder.
From traditional to Dropkick Murphys', hehe [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qw-1O_wBYXY"]YouTube - Dropkick Murphys- Wild Rover[/ame]

    "Wild Rover"

I've been a wild rover for many a year,
I've spent all my money on Tickets and beer,
Then Athletica called St Lou Home,
Now I have a team of my own,

And it's No, Nay, Never Clap, Clap, Clap, Clap
    No, Nay, Never no more,
will I play the Wild Rover,
    St Louis I'm for!

    I HIGHLY APPROVE ^.^
My computer isn't currently playing the Dropkick Murphys video you posted, but I love the High Kings' version (though, considering what I know of the Dropkick Murhpys from Wikipedia, the High Kings' version is much more traditional).

The drums are a pretty cool red. I like 'em.

And I have no idea about the drums from the FO. Remember that we never got/found/used them? They apparently are somewhere being played by Jimmy Hoffa for all I know. Hopefully the space they give us for these drums aren't the same black hole.

I got a VM from Brad that we could have some space!! Woot woot! So I will have more room in my car for people/booze/tailgating stuff.

It was tedious, but I have scaled the Army logo from a small JPG to a 5 foot tall emblem. Some minor bits are rough on the scale but I think it will be acceptable. I did have to change the font though for the letters. The computer I used for help didn't have anything close to the font on the original drawing.

Question? The initial template I made will go on a 5ft H x 10 ft L banner. Should I simply put "Laclede's Army" on it or Should I place "The Barracks" on it since L.A. is already on the logo.

The logo itself is approx, 5ft by 4ft. The Banner is thought to be a replacement for the front of the Barracks area so Rok can sleep on her sheet again instead of a bare matress. :p

By getting this "template" down, it will now be MUCH easier for me to scale it even larger for stuff I have in mind.

My bass drum is now Blue/white/Green stripped. I want to add letters to the center "Laclede's Army".

Does anyone have any extra Athletica logo stickers? I have some window decals but those won't work on the drum. I guess I can hope to find some stickers for the new logo once the season starts if nothing else.

I'd like to make some Army logo stickers but I'm not sure I can get them made without the original file *cough rokagirl*. I'm not sure the saved file I have could be resized properly for different sized stickers.

Oh and *bump* this thread for season idea's. :D

Thanks for the links Bonnie, that big projector would be nice.

I got my hand scale up done on the 5ft x 5 ft logo, I just have to decide how I want to proceed to stencil it for painting.

Can't you just freehand it? I mean, if you already have your outlines done ...

I will to a certain point. I mainly wanted a large posterboard version to make sure I get all the proportions right. I just didn't want to try to free hand directly on the medium I choose for the banner. I already have a few problem spots, by doing it straight free hand, where I'd get one area looking right but then it caused a flowing line somewhere else to look just a little off. Most ppl wouldn't notice, but it drives me nuts.

If I create stencil or should I say 'forms', I can use them as well, say if I wanted to make a cloth version.

I found one sticker so far, haha. You can have it. I probably have more somewhere but cannot find them.

I'm waiting on a response from the guy that made the file for the original. I don't even know what type it is to look.

Oh and btw I think for New Jersey we should make a sign that says: "Still Unimpressed"

Ok, think I have a 2nd verse worked out on the Wild Rover song:

    I've been a Wild Rover
    for many a year,
    I've spend all my money
    on tickets and beer,
    Now Athletica
    call St Lou home,
    And I have
    a team of my own

And it's No, Nay, Never (4 stomps)
    No, nay, never, no more
Will I play the Wild Rover
    St Louis I'm for
    (repeat chorus twice)

    I went to the stadium
    that I frequent,
    The girls in Green
    You are the best,
    Now I stand singing,
    and drumming loud,
    Hey St Louis (shout)
    Our army's proud

    (Chorus)

Sounds good to me! But it might take awhile for me to memorize. I'm still having trouble with the "Who are we? S - T - L" thing.;)

making progress on the large army sign. disregard the blurry look in the middle of the pic, as I apparently have a dirty camera lens. You'll see a ruler in the bottom left for scale.

I do have one nagging issue though. I've tried several grays and each one either looked way to dark or brownish when dry. For the moment that area is a light blue as i was trying to lighten it up by mixing. I hope to have it a more proper gray when I'm finished.

That stand sized jersey is really cool. It would be something to see even a smaller sized version at an Athletica game that FSC is carrying or something.

Still need another coat of green on "The Barracks" but otherwise I'm done. What flaws are there...hopefully won't be seen easily once it's hung up.

I think we should get flags from England, Brazil, Japan, Sweden, and Mexico to wave for the appropriate players. =-)

Back in the WUSA days, the Freedom supporters' group put together a banner made up of flags of all the players' nationalities, plus the DC flag, stitched together. (I actually still have that in my storage unit, though obviously it's very outdated now.)

I appreciate that you're still holding on to that! Not out of the question I'll be moving back to the area so I may be able to get that stuff of your hands.
